Guard Our Borders, Dammit.
January 30, 2006 Guard the Borders Blogburst
By
Heidi
This first month of 2006 has seen a
spate of unprecedented media attention to on-going border breaches such as drug smuggling tunnels and Mexican Army incursions. Deceitful Mexican government officials have disavowed any knowledge of such breaches, instead presenting laughable theories of "American soldiers disguised as Mexicans". Even our own Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, has covered for the Mexicans by dismissing border incursion as mere navigational "mistakes". (He's failed to comment on the gunfire from said "lost" Mexican soldiers.)
No one is fooled. Our border agents continue to risk their lives confronting heavily armed Mexican soldiers and smuggling gangs, while our own American citizens living on the border continue to petition our government for security - to no avail. Two American states, Arizona and New Mexico, have declared a state of emergency in their states, as the financial and societal obligation of caring for illegal immigrants crushes their economy and resources.

Some Americans are already doing something about illegal Mexicans.
They're hiring them.
Check out who's getting all the work rebuilding New Orleans.
The border isn't being tightened because certain corporations like having 23 million cheap laborers available. Keep that in mind.

First of all, no, that's not why.
Second, if that is why, why do you support it?
If companies are breaking the law, they should be punished -- as I have repeatedly suggested on this blog and elsewhere.
If we close the border -- I like barbed wire and minefields -- and punish lawbreakers, including companies and individuals, we might get our country back.

Yet Another Government Problem
In May, the North Carolina State House will form a committee to solve a problem. Let's hope all they do is form the committee, because anything else will be bad, absolutely guaranteed.
Rep. Walter Church says
We want to see what can be done to help save people's homes
So what's the problem? "Too many" foreclosures. How many is too many? Don't worry, the government will tell you, since they know best. And what's the solution? Well, they're considering revoking the licenses of some of the 14,000 licensed loan sellers in NC.
So, where'd the problem come from? The government. It's the government, through loan guarantee programs, that encourages people who cannot afford houses to buy them. This is borne out by the fact that over 80% of the foreclosures were on loans of $150,000 or less.
But don't worry, even though it's a problem that individuals borrow more money than they can afford to pay, and the banks don't care because the government (taxpayers) will give them their loan money back upon default, instead of government STOPPING the activity that leads to the problem, government will attempt to "solve" the problem.
Being it's NC Democrats that are involved, look for the solution to be more spending. It's always their answer.

Episcopal Political Position
In case you're interested in your organized religion's position on political issues -- the Episcopal Diocese of central NC has gone on record as wanting to ban the death penalty.
This is not a post about the death penalty -- I think that it's good to know that if you're participating in organized religion, you should know what they're doing with your weekly offering plate donations.

The Catholics are considering taking the same stand. Right now they occasionally oppose the death penalty and think it should be use only in certain cases.
You know, it is impossible for religious believers to stand up for what they believe in and remain totally apolitical. (though for what it is worth the Episcopals have a bad record of standing for anything, I think of them as Catholics who want a divorce)

Yes, I agree that it's utterly impossible to have solid religious beliefs and not have it show up as political beliefs. There's nothing at all wrong with that. I just like people to know where their church stands because many churches don't advertise their political positions.

You see, Ogre is hiding his true home, as he does not want any moon-bats to find him, I would assume he may be allergic to moon-bat meat, and is trying to keep them away as they can be quite tasty once roasted to perfection.
One other question, why the bread? I thought ogres only ate raw meat and eyeball jelly?

I think we've all learned from practical experience that even Ogres enjoy luxury and niceties.
Let's remember some of the most famous Ogres of all. First, there's Randolph, the Viscount of Sacramento. He enjoyed polo, raising money for orphans, and consuming rows and rows of Spam sandwiches.
Next, there's Napolean Bonaparte. Not many people knew that he was an Ogre, but he was indeed. His lifetime loves included Josephine, war, and rows and rows of Spam sandwiches.
Finally, we come to Girard Depardieu, the French actor. We all are familiar with his passion for obscure movies, subtle comedic roles, and his Shaggy-like hair-do. But, not many are aware of his desire for rows and rows of Spam sandwiches.

Delicate? All the better to smash, my dear Kender!
The bread, Smokey, is to make the stuff go further. I can of spam doesn't do much, but when you add in a 24-pack of rolls, you can actually get a meal out of it.
Stevin, way too close for comfort. Did you know some of my ancestors from the 1500s are from France? We're hoping the just traveled through, but still...
VW? Angel? This IS Ogre we're talking about. It was enough for lunch for me, but that's about it...
Frau -- good idea! I've never tried spam sammiches with cheese. And if the Muslims hate it, all the better!

It pains me to know that Spam is made right here in my home state of Minnesota.
When I was in Hawaii, I was told no one eats more Spam than Hawaiians. They got a special can made for them. I never went in McDonalds there, but I heard they sell Spam in McDonalds in Hawaii. I guess there is something worse than their burgers there

More Waste of Tax Dollars
If you like your roads full of potholes, elect Democrats to the North Carolina Legislature. It really is as simple as that.
Every year since 1989, the Democrats in the North Carolina legislature have broken the law -- but there's no one to hold them accountable except the people who vote for them. Every year, for 17 years now, the Democrats vote to take tax money and use it in ways that it was not supposed to be used.
The state law says that tax money is to be used only for the purpose that it was created. In this example, the massively heavy (6th-highest in the nation) gas tax is supposed to be used for road construction. It is not.
First, the Democrats vote every year to take about $316 million from the gas taxes and move it to other places -- like personal checking accounts, kickbacks, and legislative salaries. Over time, this is now over three BILLION dollars that was raised to build roads, but has not been used on roads. That's $3,000,000,000.00 in roads we paid for, but didn't get, thanks to Democrats.
Then the Democrats take some of the leftover money that was raised to build roads and spend it on buses, train tracks, train stations, and other forms of "mass transit." Again, money that we paid for roads that is not being used for roads.
That's why they needed to raise the tax yet again this year -- they're running out of money for their personal projects, NOT because they need money for roads. Folks, the Democrats have run the North Carolina Senate for decades. The Republicans have NEVER been in power in the North Carolina Senate.
If you like your roads crappy and full of holes, keep electing those Democrats -- they're getting really good at not giving you what you paid for.

We have some Rinos here -- because the Dems rule with an iron fist. If you don't go along with them, they literally take your office staff, give you substandard office space, make your phones not work, etc.
Posted by: Ogre at January 29, 2006 11:04 PM (+Gl1m)
3
Sounds like Michigan, only your roads are much nicer than ours.
And we have a dum-ocratic strong hold here, always using road money for stuff besides roads.
Not to mention we have the heavyist cargo hauler laws around, which are ruining the roads even faster.
Add to that the freeze-thaw problem during the winter and you have more pot holes then you have road.
Posted by: Machelle at January 30, 2006 03:24 PM (ZAyoW)
4
Don't be so sure. We should have better roads because of the lack of constant freezing -- but our roads are consistently rated the worst in the south -- and I've seen better roads even in New Jersey!

I am the Champion!
Yay, me!
During the Football season this year, I was invited by
another blogger to play in a Yahoo Pick 'em league. In this league, you just pick who you think will win each football game each week. You get one point for each correct answer. After being not in the lead the entire season, in the last two week, Ogre, who has never won anything like this before, took the lead and won!
Contagion, the host, score a 167, good enough for 3rd place. That 1 Guy, with 168, was in it until the end. But the big winner (me) got 172 points (out of 256). Yay, me!
Also, apparently mentioned during signups, was the prize. I didn't really pay attention to the prize offering, because I didn't really expect to win at all. Imagine my surprise earlier this week when the package addressed to "Ogre" arrived in my mailbox! And here is what I found:

A helmet magnet of my favorite team! Hooray (and THANKS, Contagion!).
Now I just have to decide where to put it. I could put it with my other magnets on the garage door:

Or I could put it on my car:

Decisions, decisions...

Riviera Beach, FL, -- The Battle Continues
The battle continues in Riviera Beach, FL. In case you've been living under a rock, I'll remind you of the details of the situation -- government is trying to use eminent domain to take the privately-owned land of citizens and give it to other citizens, against their will. This latest article brings to light the mindset of the people trying to take this land by force:
Mayor Michael Brown says, "I am using the tools available to me to try to get more jobs and build our tax base, I am trying to take our most valuable property and leverage it to benefit the entire city.''
By what right? Only a true socialist believes that the purpose of government is to "build our tax base." That's wrong -- completely and totally, even if it is the prevailing thought in government today.
What if I don't WANT his money? What if I don't WANT him to increase my tax base? That's the case in Riviera Beach -- they don't WANT him to take their land -- and it's not his right to, no matter his personal desire to "increase his tax base."
''We need to do something in our city to create economic upward movement,'' said City Council Chairwoman Liz Wade. ``This is about our future.''
WHY?!? Why must you force people into "upward movement?" What if the people DO NOT WANT IT? By what right does this government get to decide what the people want? Know what? Some people actually LIKE being retired on their land with the income they have -- they don't WANT more taxes and higher prices.
But this city council will have none of that. They want cash, and they will use the force of government to get it, no matter what laws or rights stand in their way. It appears the government will succeed. Keep that in mind when you think you have any freedom in this country.
We may be the most free country in the world -- but it's getting to be more and more that it's like saying that you finished in the top ten -- and there were only 8 people in the race.

If people would smarten up and not BUY land taken through eminent domain, this crap would stop instantly.
I never understood the guy who would date the girl who already had a boyfriend. If she leaves guy one for guy two, she'll leave guy two for guy three.
If the city will take someone else's land to sell to you, they'll take from you to sell to the next guy.
Posted by: Echo Zoe at January 27, 2006 06:30 PM (K+h36)
2
Good point Zoe.
It's getting this way all over the country, people are giving the government more and more power and control over their lives and money. I don't see this stopping anytime in the near future.
As for Zoe's plan the only problem is that there will always be some asshat developer that will buy the land, ALWAYS.
Posted by: Contagion at January 27, 2006 07:58 PM (Q5WxB)
3
Excellent analogy, Zoe! That's so true -- and there will always be someone that will be dishonest -- that's simply the nature of man. That's one of the few things government is supposed to do -- protect people from others -- but they won't protect us against government.

People like evil WalMart
Despite the utter hatred of capitalism's symbol, WalMart, there appear to be quite a few people who like them (other than the socialist legislature in Maryland). Near Chicago, 25,000 people applied for jobs at a WalMart that's just opening up -- and there's only 325 positions.
If the people were in agreement with the left in this country, they wouldn't all be trying to work for WalMart, would they? But I'm sure the anti-capitalists will claim these poor, oppressed people were forced to apply because they didn't have any choice.
I'm no big fan of WalMart, but I'm a fan of freedom and capitalism.

Let's be real - noone shops at Wal-Mart for quality. But using the courts to slam Wal-Mart for failing to provide employee health benefits will only negatively affect its one true benefit: Affordability.
And that is not helpful to the lower income working class folks to whom this store appeals.

I dont really like wal mart either, and an argument could be made that they are in direct defiance of the free market. The free market, among other things assumes that firms have no market power and that there are no economies of scale. Clearly Wal Mart has made its living violating these two principles and thus is inefficient and an enemy of the free market economy.

I've only seen a few that weren't clean. But yes, they are always incredibly crowded with no room to move in them -- but there's just simply no way to get lower prices, so people will continue to shop there.

A blonde pilot decided she wanted to learn how to fly a helicopter. She went to the airport, but the only one available was a solo-helicopter.
The Instructor figured he could let her go up alone since she was already a pilot for small planes, and he could instruct her via radio.
So up the blonde went. She reached 1,000 feet and everything was going smoothly. She reached 2,000 feet. The blonde and the Instructor kept talking via radio. Everything was going smoothly.
At 3,000 feet the helicopter suddenly came down quickly! It skimmed the top of some trees and crash landed in the woods.
The Instructor jumped into his jeep and rushed out to see if the blonde was okay. As he reached the edge of the woods, the blonde was walking out.
"What happened?" the Instructor asked. "All was going so well until you reached 3,000 feet. What happened then?"
"Well," began the blonde, "I got cold. So I turned off the ceiling fan."

Charlotte Headlines
This week's headline news in Charlotte, NC, brought to you by the Charlotte City Council:
Charlotte Chamber declares thousands of new businesses open in Charlotte -- showing that Charlotte is a good place to do business.
Myers Park attack may be serial rapist -- police advise women to stay indoors
Monroe police hunt for robber
County Commissioner Parks Helms says top priority will be improving schools
Carjacking suspect sought
Lane closings to build sidewalk
Charlotte restaurant robbed
City to split road for light rail
Apparently I am just about the only one who notices the very disturbing trend there. If you don't see it, I'll give you a hint: Government priorities. If you like the trend, keep putting those Democrats in office.

Why should the government care about crime if there are roads that need repairing and the poor to give tax money to?

Read even more carefully -- they are NOT repairing roads, they're building sidewalks and train stations -- NO road building or repair AT ALL.

Posts All Around!
Well there's only so many things I can blog about (and only so many hours in the day). As my wanderings go, I've found a few others articles that you, the good reader, might be interested in:
The Real Ugly American writes about
the downfall of communist radio. And no, it's not in China, it's communist radio in California. Take a peek.
4 The Little Guy points out yet more
hypocrisy of the far-left at another public institution that YOU are paying to support. But in the liberal mind, it is OK to crush religion while outright encouraging anti-religious ideas and speech.
And over at
Stop the ACLU, Jay gives up some news from Johnny "Injured War Veteran" Kerry. The news?
Kerry thinks the Democrats should filibuster Alito (or Alyoto if your name is Kennedy). I say let that one rip -- I want to see that happen. But it's just talk for fund-raising letters, not actual ideas.
So have a read and see what else is going on these days!

Now Hillary wants to filibuster as well - I guess my Senator needs somebody to proctor since he's in Davos.
I wonder what he's doing there - getting school aid for Dorchester? New streets for Worcester? Better police services for New Bedford? Naaahhhhh....that would mean he's doing something for MASSACHUSETTS - he's a STATEMAN, dammit!

Helping America
In response to my attempt to respond to The Alliance's precision-guided humor assignment, blogless "Small Town Hick" said:
Hillary is not the anti-Christ, either. Nor is Dean, Murtha, et al. Accept the fact that they are trying to help America. Badly, but trying.
Okay, I'll accept that "fact," as long as I finish the sentence "they are trying to help America:"
They are trying to help America become a socialist state.
They are trying to help America have no freedoms.
They are trying to help America no longer be the best country on the planet.
They are trying to help America be subservient to Islam.
They are trying to help America be a land ruled by Democrats, not by free elections.
They are trying to help America be a utopian society that simply cannot exist.
They are trying to help America be a country where Christianity is despised and hidden.
They are trying to help America be a place where there is no self-government but rulership by a select few.
So I admit it. They are trying to help America.

Time to Change Banks
I've not been unhappy with my bank, but I am going to change banks this week. BB&T (Branch Banking and Trust), headquartered in North Carolina (and who does about 25% of their business in NC) has announced that they will not lend money to any business who gets their land from government takings.
Now that took real guts. Of course the Charlotte Observer, who hates freedom, tries to downplay the announcement by claiming that such things are against the law in NC. Not surprisingly, the Observer is just plain wrong on that issue. The law states that land CAN be taken if the need is justified.
What is real interesting is how little play this is getting. When a company announces that they are supporting some liberal or left-wing cause, they are celebrated in press, held out as heroes, and everyone is told to go do business with them. But since this is a cause to support freedom, the liberal press doesn't care.
"The idea that a citizen's property can be taken by the government solely for private use is extremely misguided, in fact it's just plain wrong," Chief Executive John Allison said in a statement.
Now THAT is a company *I* want to do business with. Any other business that wants my money, publicly support freedom, and I will beat a path to your door!
I'm going to stop by a branch on my way home TODAY and open an account there.

Stop the ACLU has a post up that clearly looks like satire. I mean, if you saw this headline, surely you'd think you were reading The Onion or something:

We didn't kill him because we want a trial to free us and the UK of our guilt. Who do you think provided the tools, equipment, or biological and chemical weapons to Saddam?

OMG. More Surrender Monkey talking points. Dude completely ignores that we used Saddam to fight against the very country that took OUR people hostage, and was calling us the Great Satan.
These people really live in their own little world.
The SMs typically ignore the hard fact that nearly every gov't and intell agency in the world said Saddam had WMD, and all he had to do was say "sure, inspect away!" But no, he played games.
I cannot believe we are still having this conversation. No wonder Libs keep losing elections: they live strictly in the past, and that past isn't even factual.

I still think the lawsuit is stupid and is completely unfounded. I just don't understand how several powerful countries gave Saddam his tools for destruction and then somehow later say he is a tyrant and is a cruel man. He would have been significantly weaker and might have even been controllable.
I just wish the US would look to the future instead of the present in its military and economic decisions.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at January 26, 2006 06:13 PM (5+Jvh)

You mean like how Clinton looked to the future of Al Queda, and figured it was strictly a law enforcement problem, maybe lob a few missiles into Afghanistan on the eve of his Impeachement? How he looked to the future and figured it was better to let Osama go 3 times, despite the WTC 93, Kobar towers, bombings in Saudi Arabia and in Africa? How he figured that the future would be better if Intelligence and Law enforcement could not share information?
Funny how when Reagan looked to the future, one without the Soviet Union, the Left pitched a royal hissy fit. Now, Bush is looking to the future, one which has a democratic Iraq, one without a brutal dictator and doesn't support ME and international terrorism, and says "stop that, president Bush." They simply look to the past, and ignore that countries have interests, not friends (mostly.)
Iraq was an interest against Iran. Please learn the facts.

And don't forget -- the enemy of my enemy is my friend. At the time that the US gave him weapons, he was the lesser evil. If he had not been given aid, Iran would have likely taken over the entire middle east. So, if the choices are taking Saddam's miserable army by walking in or a nuclear battle with Iran controlling from the Med to India, I choose wiping the floor with Saddam's army.
Posted by: Ogre at January 26, 2006 08:03 PM (/k+l4)
6
You are correct that he was the lesser of two evils but they left him unchecked and let his power grow until he was just as big a threat. No, Clinton did not look to the future. I am not saying the Republicans or Democrates did anything right, Ogre can tell you I believe that the US will come to a point soon where it will crumble or the people will have to revolt in order to force change from both sides.
Clinton was also stopped by Congress and blocked by the CIA because they had useful resources in Afghanistan. You are basing your opinion on the fact that the president actually has power or control over government resources which he doesn't.
Also don't forget about Somalia, the bipartisan screw-up where Bush Sr. went in against his cabinets recommendation and Clintion walked in and wouldn't allow Allied forces back in and completely withdrew. Now this is a huge area for terrorism.
I mean looking to the future like Nixon did by creating an Alliance with China and Russia or like when Carter brokered the Egypt/Israel piece.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at January 26, 2006 09:20 PM (5+Jvh)
7
Nixon's alliance with Russia came to nothing until Reagan did something about it. The relationship with China has only made them have more nuclear weapons pointed at CA. And how's that peace in the middle east from Carter going?
No, I don't think any of those actions were good for the US. When Reagan broke communist Russia, now that was a good foreign policy act. When Bush removed a brutal dictator from Iraq, that was a good action.
If they didn't leave Saddam alone, the US would have still be accused of imperialism -- so in other words, no matter what the US did, "the world" and the left would hate us. We ARE the world's police force, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. When there is trouble from a dictator, we have to go fix it, whether we want to or not -- and no matter how good the solution is, it will not eliminate evil in the world.
Posted by: Ogre at January 26, 2006 09:43 PM (+Gl1m)

Yes Reagan reopened the alliance, but if the talks had not existed before then it might not have happened. Reagan had little to do with the collapse of Soviet Russia compared to Gorbachev's reforms and the military coup.
The Middle East has never been at peace. Carter created peace between Egypt and Israel, this later caused Saudia Arabia to become our "friend" giving us a base of operations in the area.
I am sorry if my point on guilt was misunderstood, what I meant was that Saddam used his chemical and biological weapons on his own people. These weapons have direct connections with western powers. His trial is two fold in that it is designed show a tyrant brought to justice and that America and our cohorts did it. In away this shows that we caused the problem and then fixed it. I still do not know why we allowed Iran to remain since we gave them their weapons after WWII and until the 60's.
Also I want everyone to know I support the war in Iraq, but I did not like the sloppy handling. This goes to show you what I meant by looking to the future. We went in to Iraq to depose Saddam but didn't plan the occupation out. In the first Gulf War, nobody planned on what Saddam would do after we pushed him out. I still believe we should have deposed him then but that would make Bush Sr. look bad since he was one of the CIA personal that said to support him and helped put him into power. Maybe he was hoping for the first Gulf War to start when he was president.

Reagan's grain embargos are what really brought down the Soviet Union -- he forced Gorbachev into reforms he never wanted.
And the Middle East will NEVER be at peace. Ever. Watch it now -- with Hamas in charge, it will get MUCH worse, very quickly.
I see your point on Saddam. The reason we left Iran is because we didn't have the guts to send troops into the middle east. I'm still shocked we actually deposed Saddam -- amazed, actually.
As for the handling and planning? Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20...
Posted by: Ogre at January 26, 2006 10:33 PM (+Gl1m)

Um, no. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Reagan was the primary cause. In essence, he forced the USSR to try and spend money to keep up with the US, putting them into what would be considered bankruptcy. Star Wars was what really killed them.

I like the way Reagan got them to spend tons of cash on weapons, then when they wanted to bargain for food, he told them to get lost -- they were forced to choose between weapons and food. Of course, when they chose weapons, the food ran out rather quickly.
Posted by: Ogre at January 26, 2006 10:41 PM (+Gl1m)

I understand what you are saying about the embargos but the seeds were already sown before Reagan became president. Gorbachev was already apart of a growing reform party. To say that one person lead to the end of Communism is like saying The US single handedly won WWII.

Stop the ACLU!
Crossposted from Stop The ACLU
Convincing liberals that the ACLU is leading us down a dangerous path is about as productive as talking to a rock. Perhaps this is because I mostly deal with far left liberals who share the same insane views and have the same radical agenda as the ACLU. Anyone who believes that the ACLU is there to purely defend the Constitution is naive at best. Surely there are some moderate liberals out there that can concede that the organization is in need of reform.
A balanced society can not survive resting in the fringe. A Nation only concerned with security will drift toward a police state, and one that follows the absolutist views of liberty like the ACLU will drift toward anarchy.

Soup is Racist
No, really. According to officials in France, soup is racist. And you were worried about being accused of being racist. Now completely inanimate food objects can be considered racist. I'm not sure if they're going to put the soup in jail or not.
Strasbourg officials have banned the hand-outs and police in Paris have closed soup kitchens in an effort to avert racial tension.
Police have closed soup kitchens in the capital's Montparnasse and Gare de l'Est train stations on administrative grounds.
You read that right. People were volunteering their time and their soup to feed homeless people who had no food. The POLICE in France stopped them.
I'm just beyond comment on this one.
The police banned giving away food to hungry, homeless people.

DO NOT TOUCH OUR PORK SOUP !
You may have heard about the Identity Soups. These traditional pork soups are distributed in several towns in France and Belgium by Identity associations that are wishing to help their compatriots living in poverty.
These de Identity soups have been accused of racism because, since they contain pork, they would exclude Jews and Muslims. Still, pork meat is key to the traditional Gallic art of cooking (Read again the Asterix’ adventures !). It is also the cheapest meat and this is an important factor of choice for non-subsidised associations. And, last but not least, when Jewish or Muslim associations are helping their fellows from the same religion they choose to serve kosher or hallal soups and this does not shock us nor does it shock anybody else… Now, when Europeans are trying to help their fellow compatriots with pork, why should it then be considered as racism ?
January 14th 2006, following a request from the Mayor of Strasbourg (North East of France), the Prefect (representing the French State) has prohibited the distribution of the Identity Soup with the support of the police and has arrested the head of the association organising the soup, named Solidarité Alsacienne (Alsatian Solidarity).
IN FRANCE THE STATE PREVENTS
FRENCH PEOPLE TO HELP FRENCH AND EUROPEAN PEOPLE !
All European nations are concerned by this measure : if we do not react today, tomorrow they might prohibit the croissant as the racist symbol of the European victory against the Turkish Muslim army that was at the door of Vienna in 1683. Or, like a director of a British school did, they may prohibit to tell stories such as “The three little pigs” under the excuse that it could heart the sensitivity of Muslim kids. It is now that we shall react !
OUR ARMS ARE THE PHONE AND THE EMAILS !
If you want to protect French and European culinary traditions and especially the freedom of Europeans to live on their own soil according to their ancestral customs, phone, send a email and ask your friends to do the same to :

This call is sent in more than fifteen European countries as well as in North and South America, Canada and Quebec. No insult, no threat, no attachment, just these few words as a title :

More Government Giveaways
The NC State Auditor (a Republican) audited the state-funded Museum of Art (run by bureaucrats and democrats). He found some quite interesting figures.
The foundation, because it is funded by the legislature (that means tax dollars) doesn't have the power to arbitrarily determine salaries. The salaries of the various "officials" are set by the legislature. And you might think that museum director Larry Wheeler might be happy earning a $97,621 annual salary.
However, the foundation wanted to give away much larger piles of taxpayer money, so they found a way to raise Mr. Wheeler's salary drastically, while not officially changing his salary -- consulting fees.
The foundation gave him $135,642 in consulting fees, $111,192 in "salary supplements" and $13,856 in vehicle expenses. Now when is the last time you, working for an actual company that has to be accountable for their expenditures, got a "salary supplement" that was larger than you actual salary?
The foundation also gave another $372,999 to 33 other employees. And yes, this is a clear violation of state law -- the law says that state workers cannot receive pay beyond their salary to perform duties within their own department.
The foundation defends it's actions, saying the money is needed to keep Wheeler from being "lured away" to other museums. Which museums would those be? Well, perhaps PRIVATE museums. So the state is trying to compete with private companies. That's wrong.
Furthermore, why won't the foundation follow the law? If they need more money, all they have to do is ask the legislature! The legislature sets the pay -- if it's not enough, ask them for more instead of breaking the damn law and wasting my money, morons.
Yet another example of the total and utter corruption of the government in Raleigh, NC. Hey,
Mr. Tabor, this is what you're going to be facing if you win your election...are you ready?

But the politicians don't seem to mind...nor do the people who keep electing them.
They really do believe that the state legislature is the ultimate power in the land. They think that since they make the laws, they can quite literally do anything they want -- I've heard them say nearly those exact words.

Democrat Code of Conduct, Part 2
Earlier today, we tried to present a preview of the Democrat ethics strategy for the 2006 elections. The crackstaff is still not awake, so we're left to just throw out baseless accusations and conjecture. But hey, that's fun, so let's give it a shot!
Whenever someone comes out with something new, there's two questions to be asked immediately: "Why is this being done?" and "Why hasn't it been done before?" In this case, the answers are really easy.
Why are the Democrats doing this? To win an election -- plain and simple, nothing more. And yet, the idea of having ethics just to win an election doesn't seem to bother anyone...
Why hasn't it been done before? Well, it's never been tried before. This is a new concept in this century. It's an idea that really hasn't been tried since, oh about 1800 or so -- the idea that a politician might actually HAVE ethics.
Since this is about politicians, and we don't want to shock their fragile systems and egos, we shouldn't really hit them hard. Instead, we should start with small, baby steps, until they get used to the idea. Keeping all that in mind, here's a few suggestions for the Democrats who suddenly want ethics:
1. If someone dies while in your personal automobile and you were driving, do not run and hide in a motel room.
I know this one should be really obvious, but remember what we're dealing with. I think this one really is non-negotiable and really needs to be on the Democrat Party's list.
2. Tell the truth.
Again, this one is really obvious to anyone over the age of 3 that isn't either a lawyer or a politician, but it really is the basics of ethics. If you skip this one, there's really nowhere else to go with this whole idea. I know for many politicians, this will be nearly impossible.
So many have been telling so many lies for so long, it may feel funny inside to actually tell the truth. My advice to them? Keep with it -- the funny feeling will go away. Try it, you might like it.
3. Forget the phrase "neither confirm nor deny."
As soon as those words come out of your mouth, everyone knows you're guilty. Really. Nothing else you say after that really means anything, because you're done for. When you think of uttering this phrase, think of rule #2.
4. Remember: Bush is not the anti Christ.
Democrats, think about this -- a large number of people actually voted for Bush, no matter what you think. A VERY large number. He's the head of this country. Just opposing him because he takes a position makes you look even more foolish than you already are. Give it a break, it just doesn't work.
5. Be yourself.
Closely related to #2 above. If you have a position on something, just tell people what that position is -- no matter what it is. Millions of people will respect you, even if that position is that you think everyone with pinky fingers longer than 2.5 inches should have to pay higher taxes -- at least you'll HAVE a position!
Well, that's 5 rules, and that's enough for people who simply have no ethics now. Try not to hurt yourselves putting them into place.

I think you should change this to the Politician's Code of Conduct.

Well, #1 and #3 really apply to the Democrats...

But at least it is not as bad as Condoleeza Rice at the 9-11 commision. I really loved it when she denied seeing a memo she forwarded and signed. Everyone uses those dumb lines.

I'm with Arbitratorofall. These are rules which should apply to everyone in Washington.
Two other points.
1) Try to find some sin of Kennedy's that happened during my lifetime, OK? You're starting to give everybody the impression that he hasn't made a gaff since Nixon.
2) Hillary is not the anti-Christ, either. Nor is Dean, Murtha, et al. Accept the fact that they are trying to help America. Badly, but trying.

I'm sorry, I can't accept that Hillary is trying to help America -- unless by "help" you mean destroy or make communist.
No, the Democrat Party wants power and money and is honestly strongly opposed to freedom. I'm not saying the Republican Party does a good job of supporting freedom, either, but there's a few there that really are trying.

And Small Town Hick? There's no statute of limitations on murder. Oh, and speaking of bringing up old sins, perhaps you should talk to your Democrat friends on the Judiciary committee...
