Playing Around
I've been playing around with PHP and skinning of a blog and I wanted to share what I had. Go Here to check it out. The 4 skins that I have are preliminary (there's an InstaRipoff) but the skinning is pretty neat, I think.

What is this "PFP and skinning" of which ye speak?
I had no lagging/hanging probs, and I'm IE 6.0 too. Hmmm. I can't comment at Misha due to lag/freeze, but I have no such probs anywhere else. Misha told me that no one else has complained about this so it's probably me. So, I mean, what the huh? Who knows.

Remembering user info in comments
I had noticed that the remember info worked on individual archive pages but not on comment only pages. Pylorns pointed me to this forum post and I now understand why. The comment listing template sets the HOST as the individual blog domain (snoozebuttondreams.com, etc) and the cookie is set that way. Pages like individual archives that are served from that domain name work fine. The comment only pages are served from blog.mu.nu and no cookie has been set for that domain.
Our current setup will work fine if there is a way to set multiple HOSTs in the comment listing template. Set a cookie for blog.mu.nu as well as ($MTBlogHost$).
Any ideas?

You could set a cookie for the whole of mu.nu, I think, but you can't set one for mu.nu and snoozbuttondreams.com. You can only set a cookie for the domain the page came from.
Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at December 10, 2003 12:20 PM

On the other hand, once you've commented using the comments page on one mu.nu blog, it remembers you on all the other blogs. That's why I haven't bother to change it.
Posted by: Pixy Misa @ at December 10, 2003 12:21 PM

I'm not seeing that, Pixy. I have to constantly reenter my info on same sites and different mu.nu sites.
If we try to set two cookies, one specifying MTBlogHost and one specifying blog.mu.nu, would the wrong one fail and the right one succeed so no matter where it was done one would work?
Posted by: Jim @ at December 10, 2003 12:44 PM

For the two cookie question - yeeees, I think so, but IE might complain at you.
Mu.Nu-wide cookies work in Mozilla; I think IE may have problems. Need to check that.

IE doesn't like cookies if your privacy declaration isn't in order. In fact it blocks most of them by default. I don't think I've ever managed to get my remember me bit working despite my best efforts

I don't know what's changed but now all the munu sites remember my info, and I've not changed anything that I can see.

Oopsie!
The DNS server for MuNu - not the MuNu server itself, but another server elsewhere that just handles DNS - came under attack today and had to be pulled off the net. We are now back (and better than ever).
If anyone is still experiencing odd problems, please let me know.

Comment Buttons
Just tooling around yesterday and decided I needed formatting buttons in my comments. The ones where you highlight the text and click the button to format the text in the comments. First I did a search and tried some of the stuff I found, but I didn't like it very much. So, I decided to break out the Big Hammer. To make a long story shorter, go check it out on my comments and let me know if you want to install them. I'll send you some instructions and a sample of my my comment templates to see the final product.
Also, I would like to request an installation of the
Trickle hack (or whatever it is called) so we can
post date our entries to post at a later date. Thank you in advance, Mr Pixy!
That is all.

Awards time
Being Awards season, I need to call on all my fellow Munuvians for some help. I've got a post with more, but there's a site here with the Asia Weblog Awards 2003. I highly recommend a visit, check out the nominees and then vote for me in the Best HK Blog and Best Newcomer 2003.
You can only vote once in each category. I figure if I get Munuviana's votes, that's at least 25-ish and my ego is saved for a year. Help your Munuvian colony in China to grow and take over...
UPDATE: I should also ask you not to be shy about encouraging

Post-turkey question

Typepad does, but with MT, while you can date your post for the future it still publishes it right away--just with the future date.

Getting a volunteer to post them at the appropriate time? That's all I came up with.
Posted by: Jennifer @ at December 01, 2003 10:27 AM

Jennifer's suggestion is probably the best. Write up the post and make sure the status is Draft. Change the time to what you want it to be when it's posted. That way your volunteer only has to change the post status to Publish and everything else is all set.

an update on the Scripty Goddess script. There seemed to be a bug when I installed. See if someone else can make it work on your blog. It's pretty simple... cut and paster a couple of lines of code, but the must be inserted at the proper place.
It looks like Trickle would ba an answer for everybody though, after reading the instructions.
Posted by: The Bartender @ at December 05, 2003 06:22 AM

Scripty Goddess Script Update II: The script is for PHP index templates only. Sorry it wasn't stated anywhere that I could see in the install instructions.
It looks like the ball falls back to Pixy to install Trickle for us. It looks pretty easy for us to do onour end. Go read the instructions to see how to do it.

Random Question of the Day
I know we have all kinds of geniuses here in Munuviana, so maybe one of you can answer this for me: I have Windows XP on my computer, pretty much the only browser I use is IE6. Every now and then, in my Favorites folder, appears a subfolder called "Links". It shows up uninvited, empty. I've found no pattern to its appearance, no one particular site is visited that prompts it.
Where does it come from?
I am on a cable modem that's turned on 24/7. Are the evil Microsoft demons flipping a switch back there and inserting it into my Favorites?
It's only a minor annoyance, and yes, you Mac freaks, I know how Macs never do this. And yes, Mozilla lovers, I know Mozilla doesn't do this either.
I'm just hugely curious about it.

It is a known Microsoft evil. IE rebuilds the Links folder itself when it notices it missing. This should normally be the next time you open it after it's not memory resident (next reboot).

Links you place into the link folder will appear on the Links bar at the top of the IE browser frame, as such, it is part of the browser, so that is why it keeps appearing. You may not be seeing the Links bar if you have it unchecked in the view|toolbars menu, but I actually use it extensively to store links for sites I frequent, like hotmail, yahoo, and alltheweb
