Okay, here's another idea:
Since Minx has its own WYSIWYG editor, instead of having it produce valid markup, it could produce somethine else, such as 8!*- -*!8 instead of angle brackets, which would be transformed by the server to what they should be. Then you could disallow markup in comments - cutting out the spammers.
...just a thought.

Master Pixy, this is off topic, but recall I am from the techtarded flock. My question is: once a post is deleted, is there any way to kill the page entirely, even if pulled up by the archived entry number? (Google still points straight to it in other words...)

Old Image from Old Site
When I click on my comments section, over on the sidebar is an old bitmap that was on my old dotcom site. The url listed for that one is: http://www.gmroper.com/archives/elephanthandand%20flag-2.bmp. When I go to the "archives" for the old site (which really no longer exists, it was via an old host http://livingdot.com) I get a "bandwidth exceeded" message... interesting in that there is no more site to exceed!
I've looked at all the templates I currently have to see if I can dig out the missing picture and replace it with the one I have on my main page but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Does anyone know how to get rid of a bitmap that doesn't seem to reside anywhere? LOL, I know it really is somewhere, I just don't know how to find it. Suggestions welcome... and thanks if you can tell me how to do it....

When you're managing the MU site, on the Templates page, below the list of your template are the "standard" templates. The one that says "Category Archives" is likely where that link appears.

Ray-Ban includes seven main lines in their sunglasses collection: Families, Icons, Active Lifestyle, High Street, Fast and Furious, Tech, and Craft. The sunglasses frames range from very thin, metal-like frames to thicker, carbon fiber frames. The lenses of some Ray-Ban sunglasses are polarized, which means they eliminate glare from the reflective surfaces which results in a drastic reduction in the brightness of shiny surfaces, like chrome, and large bodies of water and much more comfortable for the eyes of the wearer. These lenses also protect the wearer's eyes from the potentially harmful blue light. These lenses are popular because they are scratch-resistant, they provide clarity, and they offer 100% protection from the sun's dangerous UV rays. http://www.raybanukshop.com/

Commentary
Spent a few hours today whacking the comment system over the head with a large hammer.
The result will - I hope - be less spam. It will certainly help me to track how the spam is getting in. We've got three comment systems running now; two copies of Movable Type, and Minx. I know it's not Minx that's the main problem, so what I need to find out is which of the two copies of MT is having problems - or if there's something else that I've forgotten.
Anyway, any posts more than about a month old have now had comments closed, very very forcibly. There's nothing worse than looking up an old post to find twenty screenfuls of porn spam attached to it.
I still have to clean up the existing mess, but I've started on that, and I'm going to add some comment management tools to Minx that will also work on your MT comments.

My Blog Is Dead!
I've posted a new post, but it won't display. (The RSS feed has the new post, though.) Another, and perhaps related, problem is that I can't seem to reset my password on CPanel. When I go to the new site on Collosus I just get a time out. When I attempt to reset my password on the old CPanel I just get a new message to reset on Collosus.

GREAT NEWS
Off Topic and not related to MU.NU stuff necessarily, but many of you know that I have been fighting lung cancer, and many of you don't. OK Guys and gals, beloved friends and casual acquaintences. I just got the CT scan results and
it says "NO EVIDENCE OF METASTATIC DISEASE" as well as
other medical jargon but the bottom line is that I've
won the battle and am on to winning the war against
this damned disease. And though it is not necessarily germain to this blog, it is in fact one of the reasons I was proposed for membership in this great group and am oh so very proud to be a munuvian.
Many of you have offered prayers and support and I'm very, very greatful.

In an word -- anything. I've found the access log function in CPanel that shows where the person at this IP address went. I'm not certain what other information you can get. I'm not a networks guy, so I'm not sure what happens when two computers start nattering at each other over TCP/IP. Obviously the mu.nu server knows the IP address of the other computer -- is any other information logged? Someone mentioned an "IP Log". Is that different from the access log? Can I see it myself through CPanel or some other utility?

But if you fire up MT Blacklist and try to add one of those URLs, it rejects it as an invalid regexp.

Possible Minx Feature
Pixy,
Apparently this doesn't exist in Movable Type, but it would probably be useful to the sysadmin to be able to broadcast a message to all blogs simultaneously.
Maybe it could be saved as a draft post to each blog so it'll be seen when the blogger logs on or as an actual visible post that the blogger will have to physically delete, thereby garaunteeing that the person saw it.
Munuviana was supposed to serve this function, but obviously many Munuvians don't visit. Posting blacklist instructions here again and again doesn't help if the folks who need 'em never see 'em.

I think that's a pretty swell idea, Ted. It merits some further-lookin'-into in my book, anyone else agree?

...And if creating a "post that needs to be deleted" isn't ideal, then maybe some sort of "message inbox" that is difficult to ignore that would serve the same purpose?
Email can be overlooked, but if it ("it" being this "inboxy thing") is in close proximity to the link/button you'd click to create/edit/post an entry, then maybe it would work.
If you have a box that says, "You have a message", it tends to make the user feel pretty special and loved - making it hard to resist reading it

hehe
(...waiting for Pixy to say he's already done all this in some fashion hehe)

Yep!
The next feature I was going to work on was private messaging. Look for it next week.
As Kyer notes, we have to get people over to Minx so that the messages hit them in the face when they log in.
Hmm.
Okay, as soon as the user interface is at least partly working, I'll pull a switcheroo so that the existing login page takes you to Minx first, with a link from there to the MT system.
That should do the trick!

I'm trying to patch MT Blacklist so that you can't insert crappy entries that break it.
Ye gods, but that code is hideous.
What's more, MT Blacklist all by itself is bigger than Minx, and Minx includes a blacklist function.
And of course it's written in Perl, the worst language ever created.

On the other hand, I can't work out how people manage to do it in the first place. There's error-checking in the code to prevent this happening, and I've tested it, and it works.
Something strange going on...

E-Mails
Horde hasn't worked for me for some time (which picked up gmroper@gmroper.mu.nu), I used to have gmroper@gmroper.com which I always used via Outlook. Nowadays, I've got gmroper@yahoo.com and gmroper@gmail.com. I'd like to go back to gmroper@gmroper.com or gmroper@gmroper.mu.nu can this be done without Horde? If so, how can I go about setting it up?

Hmm. That's weird.
I thought it must be a problem with your account, but I checked and your account looks fine. I don't have working email myself right now because my PC at home blew up and I don't have email set up on my notebook, but I'll do some testing when I get to work tomorrow.

Glad I'm not the only one broken. Good luck on the repairs Pix.

Blog Mail
Is anyone else experiencing problems with their blog mail?
I'm not talking about a complete failure to work - it's more like.....
some messages aren't getting through.
Am I going technically crazy or am I the only one 'seeing things'....?
(I'd contact Pixy about this......but I tried and cannot be sure the message got through to him.)
UPDATE: Okay, it's official: I am no longer getting
any mail. I sent a test message from my home e-mail and it was returned.
Is anyone else having problems with their mail?
UPDATE II: Anyone there?? Hello? Am I talking to myself?!?!

My blogmail hasn't worked for weeks and weeks. Despite the fact that it is "empty" it still shows 8 emails in the cache... Horde sucks... but then, it always did.
