SR - I went and looked at the site, there is a post up from today (9/22) did he publish more than one or is this the post he was concerned about? Maybe there was a lag time in posting after the publish.

Pixy, so you are a day shy of half my age. Well, here's hoping you eventually reach half again my age and what's more, I'll be there to welcome you.
Now, you munuvians, how old is Pixy, and how old am I? (no cheating, you have to figure it out on your own)

Happy birthday, Pixy! Sorry I missed it, but I was celebrating my daughter's sixteenth birthday yesterday.
And, as long as you are in Australia, you celebrate your birthday at the same time that my daughter celebrates hers -- even though they are on consecutive dates, there is some overlap, right?

Tiny, little bandwidth problem
I've never heard of WServerNews (formerly W2Knews) before, but they very nicely send a deluge of visitors to my site...and in particular to the pictures of planes landing at the old Kai Tak airport (not for the weak stomached).
Unfortunately that page is pretty heavy with pictures, so at times I've had "bandwidth exceeded" come up. Oh wise Pixy, please can you help?

Bum
Sorry about the outage. Yuri, one of the two... three... well, right now, six mu.nu servers, albeit the one that hosts most of the blogs, fell over. Haven't worked out why, just yet, but it's back up and running.
I have two happy, healthy, brand new servers waiting to take over, but I simply haven't had the time to move mu.nu across. I'm hoping that the thing that's been eating my brain the past couple of months will finally be finished on Monday and after that things will be a lot happier for everyone.
If not, I might just go mad instead.
We'll see.
Update: The brain-eater has been banished!

I am back and munuing more than ever.
I need to plan the move to the new servers, and then we'll open things up to new munus again. At the same time, I'll be rolling out Minx so that people can start moving to it for real. (My blog is already running under Minx, and Ace is using Minx comments, but it doesn't do everything it needs to just yet.)
And then comes the new site, which will bring a ton of new goodies with it.
I was hoping that this would be ready about now, but the brain eater sucked two months out of my life, so it will be sometime in November before it's ready. We'll have a continuous stream of new goodies starting in early October. Cool stuff happening all over the place... As long as my brain doesn't get eaten again.
La la la...

Munuvitude
I attended a gathering of Milwaukee-area bloggers last night. the subject of my blog being hosted at mu.nu came up a couple of times. I reckon everyone here will be pleased to hear that the consensus was that mu.nu is cool, what Pixy is doing is cool, and I am fortunate to be a part of it. And also the pie.

Nope you did it right. The IP Banning in MT only blocks them from commenting.
To keep them from accessing your site you'll need to use the IP Deny feature in your Control Panel.

GroovyVic and everyone...
There is absolutely NO POINT in adding IP addresses to MT Blacklist. Blacklist does absolutely nothing with IP addresses - it was not designed to.
If you want to ban an IP address from commenting, you must do it from your own Admin Panel. Click on the Config button on the left side of your admin page, then look for the link at the top right of the next page that says IP Banning. Clicking it will give you the location to properly enter an address to ban.
If you want to ban an IP address from even viewing your site, you need to do as Phin points out and do it in the IPDeny Manager in CPanel.
Note though that getting around such bans is pretty trivial for a human user, (and some will get it around it automatically because they are assigned a new IP by their ISP each time they log on - dialup users for example) and totally ineffective against spammers, who have literally thousands of IP addresses at their disposal.
And Phin, you really need to learn to use the Blacklist properly. It's totally useless (and badly clogs the Blacklist) to enter dozens of subdomains of the same primary domain. Simply entering the primary domain will block every possible subdomain as well. The way you're doing it, the spammer simply has to increment his subdomain by one and none of your dozens of entries will block the new one.

Paul,
I misread the Blacklist Part, I thought it said she'd banned them in MT. Yes I know that adding an IP to the blacklist doesn't accomplish a whole lot, if anything at all.
For the subdomains vs the primary domain.
The last time I added an entry to the blacklist I was trying to get it added asap to hopefully help cut back on the spam flood while I was at work with limited time to spare.
If you'll look back through the logs you'll see that 9 times out of 10 I only enter the primary domain. So yeah, I do know how to effectively use the blacklist and in this instance made an exception to the rule trying to help others out.
I do apologize for any inconvenience I may have added with the duplicate subdomains. So don't worry about it, I'll be sure not to do it again.

My Posts Disappeared
I just rebuilt my site, as suggested by Pixy, after noticing that my most recent post appeared twice even though it was only posted once. Now there are no posts showing on the main page. The list of recent entries seems to work, however. I'm not sure whether something happened to my template, or something is dysfunctional in the setup, or... you know, it's a "whoops".

None of those, exactly. It's just that your main page was set to only show the last 7 days, so when you rebuilt it 8 days after the last post, it went blank. (Which is the default way that Movable Type works, so it's happened to lots of people.)
I've changed it to show the last 10 posts instead.

A celebration of life
Dear Pixy and Munuvian friends:
I am currently getting ready for my "in memorium" post dedicated to my friends who died on 9/11 and need a bit of help. I have a song in mind that I'd like to dedicate to them. I haven't decided if I'll sing it myself (if I can unlump my throat long enough) or if I'll upload a portion of the song by the artist (so as not to infringe on copyright laws). Where I need help is in the following areas 3 areas:
1) I believe that I need to go through the c-panel to upload said song, but I'm not sure. If that's the case then:
a) I don't have a password, and
b) Although I'm not a tech guru I can usually get things done, but if somebody would be able to answer a few questions, in the event that I need a little guidance, well, I would really appreciate it.
I would truly be grateful for any direction I could receive.
Thanks!

Michele, I'd be happy to help out where I can.
Unfortunately, I have no idea what email address Pixy is currently using, so you'll just have to hopee he sees this soon and can reset and send your CPanel password. (Did you try your original MT login info? there's a slight chance they were the same as the one to which CPanel was originally set.)

Okay, thanks to Paul and Teresa of Technicalities I've managed to get into Cpanel. I've been looking around now for awhile and have found some really interesting stuff, but I've not come across a place to upload music files.
Paul, I guess some guidance will be needed. Thanks again for the offer.

You can probably just upload the file using Movable Type. An mp3 shouldn't be too big.
You can also use FTP, which uses the same username and password as CPanel. You'll need an FTP program for that, though.

File Manager (cPanel)
I am having a problem accessing File Manager in cPanel. I get this error message whenever I try it:
"[a fatal error or timeout occurred while processing this directive]"
I'm trying to get into the file manager in order to deal with this problem:
"The account with the username 'usadave', is running out of disk space.
Please remove some files from this account, or ask the administrator to increase your disk quota.
You have currently used 82.63% of your disk space. " (I received this in an email last month.)
I have also experienced a problem that may be related to all of the above: I tried to verify the existence of two pictures I thought I uploaded through MT (not file manager) that currently will not display when I try to preview them (though I received no error messages when I uploaded them). So I'm wondering if I'm out of disk space, but I cannot tell without getting into File Manager. Whew! Full circle.
Can someone give me a little help?

Pixy -- Thanks for fixing my disk usage and File Manager access problems! It looks like they are all better now . . . I really appreciate it!

Update Questions
Just curious and wondering if we could get an update on a few things:
1. Trackbacks
2. Trickle
3. New Blogging System
I had understood (perhaps incorrectly) that #1 and #2 would be fixed with #3. If so, what's the status on #3? Is the new system going to be rolled out and live to anyone who wants it (or is it already)? I remember something about some free accounts and some paid, too.
And if it's going to be awhile before the new system is going to be opened, will #1 or #2 be fixed on the current system, or should we just wait for the new one?
Thanks for all that you do, Pixy!
