New Flavor

Ben and Jerry's is coming out with an unbelievable new ice
cream in honor of the new president.

It is being churned in Washington DC and appropriately being
named:

'Baracky Road' ---- half chocolate and half vanilla,
surrounded by fruits and nuts.

Just for Grins

Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop N. Fresh died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71.

Known to friends as Brown-n-Serve, Fresh was an avid gardener and tennis player. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Skippy. The graveside was piled high with flours as longtime friend Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who "never knew how much he was kneaded."

Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes -- conned by those who buttered him up.

Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and another bun in the oven. The funeral was held at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Superbowl

I am NOT a big sports fan. I don't watch any sport, other than an occasional Colts game.(assuming all the cooking shows playing on the Food Channel are repeats). I will watch motorcycle Gran Prix racing, but it's rare they show a race on my cable system.

So here it is, Superbowl Sunday. The Significant Other is settling into her yearly ritual of gathering the comestibles and beverages around her prior to watching the contest of well-padded, overpaid, overpampered behemoths slug it out over possession of a defenceless ovoid of inflated pig skin.

I don't even know what teams are competing this year (did I mention that I'm not a sports fan?) I do know that it's being played in Tampa this year, so at least there won't be any chance of snow interfering with the plays (assuming Al Bore doesn't attend the game; snow seems to follow him everywhere he goes..talk about a 'cool' character!)

This year TLOML will be able to enjoy the game on our new 42" flatscreen TV; just maybe she'll finally ackowledge that bigger IS better in TV 's.
I don't mind that she takes control of the remote this one day of the year, even though it goes against all my male instincts...and watching the small screen in the bedroom makes me appreciate the flat screen all the more.

I think I'll retire to the bedroom and watch a DVD...or shovel the snow from the walkway before the postman slips on my walk and sues me.

Hold on, I just learned Teh One is rooting for the Steelers; GO Cardinals!

Bifurcation?

Captainsql has a tongue in cheek proposal to smooth over the current polarization between the Left and those of us who are correct.

I must say that his last request is highly agreeable to me...., hell, I would wish it to occur regardless of all the rest of the proposal. I'm sure Mssr. Car-ter would be much more comfortable among his own kind, and it seems that Hamas or France both need some new blood in the upper echelons of power...

SHAME

SHAME......Shame is exactly what I felt when I heard of the travesty that is occurring in my Birth land.

With the Appellate Courts' recent decision from Den Hague against Geert Wilders last Wednesday, freedom of speech is officially dead in the Netherlands. (And as Den Hague is in reality really the U.N. "World Court"; by extension, there is no longer truly free speech in the rest of Europe either.)

When a duly and freely elected member of a government can no longer be free to speak his mind; what chance is there for any of the rest of us? Mr. Wilders is now headed to stand trial for "inciting hate speech" for his film "Fitna".

Misha has a link to Fitna on LiveLeak over at the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler. I would have posted it here as well, but it seems LiveLeak doesn't like my formatting (besides, Misha deserves the heads up on this one, that darned Dane.)

Go and watch the movie....note that Geert only has two (of his own lines) in the entire film, and they amount to "fight extremism before it overwhelms us". Really hateful huh?!? The entire film is merely excerpts from the Quran and PUBLIC speeches of spiritual(!?) leaders of Islam. If anyone was hateful and inciting of violence it was the Imams and Muslim heads of state, not Mr. Wilders.

Thank you President Bush

He was not the best President we have ever had, but he was far from the worst. He kept the nation safe for eight long years; when EVERY move he made to keep it so was vilified. When he was proactive, he was castigated as a usurper trying to overextend his power yet when he followed the chain of actions set forth by law, he was castigated as being too slow or simply uncaring.

Never has a President had to labor to accomplish any worthwhile policies under such radical extremes of reactions.

Thinking back over the last eight years I am reminded of a speech made by another President that was not always appreciated in his own day, the Rough Rider Teddy Roosevelt made in the Sorbonne in 1920 when he put it all into perspective when he said:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

Mr. Bush, you expended yourself in the worthiest cause any President can do; the safety of the American Republic from the most insidious enemy we've faced in at least 60 years. The work is far from over, the final battles not yet enjoined, but for your part of the fight it can be accounted that the main mission was accomplished.

For that effort Mr. President, thank you. May you enjoy your retirement from the Ship of State for may long years to come, secure in the knowledge that History will judge you far kinder than the present Partisan reactionaries already trying to recast the past in their mold of their limited partisan view.

Still Alive

I went to my blog this afternoon and realized I hadn't kept up with posting much lately. Too much life happening is my excuse, and I'm sticking to that story.

Health issues and some personal problems just get priority over yelling into the wilderness.

I watched a little bit of the Inauguration of the (A)obomaNation, Lord help us all.
I really HOPE that Mr. Obama surprises me and turns out to be a good President, but some of the remarks in his Inauguration speech indicates the CHANGE he wishes to institute will be the death of the Republic and the beginning of the new American Oligarchy.

The similarities between the present day and the beginning of the fall of the Roman Republic into the tyranny of the Roman Empire are just too chilling to be comfortable for anyone that believes in personal Liberty. It seems that it really is true that those that don't learn history really are doomed to repeat it.

I'm just going to try to hide among the sheeple and see if I survive the coming storm until the time comes to throw off the disguise and attempt in some small way to be one of the sheepdogs trying to return the Nation back to Liberty.

Racism Ended !

In a few short days, an African American man will move from his private residence into a much larger and infinitely more expensive one owned not by him but by the taxpayers. A vast lawn, a perimeter fence and many well trained security specialists will insulate him from the rest of us but the mere fact that this man will be residing in this house should make us all stop and count our blessings - because it proves that we live in a nation where anything is possible.

Many believed this day would never come. Most of us hoped and prayed that it would, but few of us actually believed we would live to see it. Racism is an ugly thing in all of it's forms and there is little doubt that if this man had moved into this house fifteen years ago, there would have been a great outcry - possibly even rioting in the streets.

Today, we can all be both grateful and proud that no such mayhem will take place.when this man takes up residency in this house.

This man, moving into this house at this time in our nation's history is much more than a simple change of addresses for him - it is proof of a change in our attitude as a nation. It is an amends of sorts - the righting of a great wrong. It is a symbol of our growth, and of our willingness to "judge a man, not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character".

There can be little doubt now that the vast majority of us truly believe that this man has earned both his place in history and his new address. His time in this house will not be easy - it will be fraught with danger and he will face many challenges. I am sure there will be many times when he asks himself how in the world he ended up here and like all who have gone before him, the experience will age him greatly.

But I for one will not waste an ounce of worry for his sake - because in every way a man can, he asked for this. His whole life for the past fifteen years appears to have been inexorably leading this man toward this house. It is highly probable that that in the past, despite all of his actions, racism would have kept this man out of this house. Today, I thank the lord above that I am an American and that I live in a nation where wrongs are righted, where justice matters and where truly anything is possible.

PGR Mission

I went on my first Patriot Guard Riders mission early this morning and found it exhilarating (maybe because of riding a motorcycle at 70 MPH in 24F weather? LOL)

The mission was to attend a deployment ceremony for C-Company 1-137th Assault Grp (Air Cav) of the Indiana National Guard of Shelbyville, IN.

We had approximately 40 riders to form a flag line for the ceremony and it felt like an honor to be able to participate in the ceremony. While looking out at the troops deploying to a hot battle area in Iraq, I was struck by how young they seemed. Some looked like they should be heading to a Sophomore class in High School...yet every single one of them projected an air of calm confidence in their ability to get the difficult and dangerous job ahead of them done in the long months to come. It was inspiring to know that our society is still producing such fine "sheepdogs" despite the seeming slide of the general populace into becoming "sheeple".

After the ceremony I was astounded when some of the troops came up and thanked ME for being there to help send them off! I was almost speechless (stop laughing, yes it DOES happen to me on rare occasions!)
I managed to say "thank you, but it's YOU that deserve any thanks".

In my era of service, we didn't deploy as units as they do today; every soldier generally was sent to a duty posting alone and returned home alone afterwards.
Sometimes that return was acrimonious if you were foolish enough to travel in uniform...I am thankful that these soldiers won't have to worry about such a scenario occurring to them; it's much better to travel as a unit, especially on the return after war. The Army did something right when they instituted the new policy - maybe they did learn something after all.

After the ceremony, the Ride Captain informed me that it was PGR policy to give all first-timers a "Mission Accomplished" pin after their first ride and handed a pin to me. The whole experience really moved me in a way I hadn't expected and I look forward to participating in as many more such missions as I can, always with the hope that someday soon they will no longer be necessary. But until that day comes, I will always be honored to ride with a group that took as its motto:

"We Stand for Those Who Stand for US"(TM)

NASCAR NEWS

NASCAR NEWS...Jeff Gordon fires his entire pit crew

This announcement followed Gordon's decision to take advantage of the government's scheme to employ Harlem youngsters.

The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Harlem were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Gordon's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of dollars worth of high tech equipment. It was thought to be an excellent and bold move by Gordon's management team as most races are won or lost in the pits. However-Gordon got more than he bargained for!

At the crew's first practice session, not only was the inexperienced crew able to change all 4 wheels in under 6 seconds, but within 12 seconds they had changed the paint scheme, altered the Vin number, and sold the car to Dale Jr. for 10 cases of Bud, a bag of weed, and some photos of Jeff Gordon's wife in the shower.
