The Tax System Explained in Beer

On April 2, 2012, David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D. – A Professor of Economics, explained the fallacy of Obama's proposed class warfare revamping of tax policy reasoning, using one of my favorite things in life - Beer.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this…

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing The fifth would pay $1 The sixth would pay $3 The seventh would pay $7 The eighth would pay $12 The ninth would pay $18 The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59

So, that’s what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20″. Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men ? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by a h higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving). The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

“I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,”but he got $10!”

“Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!” “That’s true!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!”

“Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison, “we didn’t get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!”

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works. The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Subject: Acquisition Strategy

It was fall and the Indians on a remote reservation in South Dakota
asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild.

Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the
old secrets. When he looked at the sky, he couldn't tell what the winter
was going to be like.
Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter
was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should
collect firewood to be prepared.

But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea. He
went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked,
'Is the coming winter going to be cold?'

'It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,' the meteorologist
at the weather service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more
firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Does it
still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?'
'Yes,' the man at National Weather Service again replied, 'it's going to
be a very cold winter.'

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect
every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again.
'Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?'
'Absolutely,' the man replied. 'It's looking more and more like it is
going to be one of the coldest winters we've ever seen.'
'How can you be so sure?' the chief asked.

The weatherman replied, 'The Indians are collecting a shitload of
firewood.

Joke of the Day

When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting
to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had
something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat,
making beer.. Always something more important to me. Finally she
thought of a clever way to make her point.
When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall
grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing
scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into
the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again
I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the
grass, you might as well sweep the driveway."

The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

Army Humor

A young private, fresh out of boot camp is assigned to guard duty.

His sergeant takes him to a back gate of the post, and orders the private, “No one is to enter the post at this gate under any circumstances. If they try, you are ordered to shoot them.

The night drags on and as bored as he is the private remains awake, alert & on guard.

Suddenly, a car appears in the distance. As it come closer, he sees all the markings of a general’s car.

As the car rolls to a stop at the gate, the private informs the driver that he may not enter at this gate.

The driver tells him in no uncertain terms that the general will enter through that gate and he is to open it instantly.

The private, repeats the orders given to him and declines to open the gate.

At this point, the back window rolls down.

The general tells the private that he is proud of the young soldier but the private needs to understand that he is now addressing a general and he is to open the gate.

The private says, "May I just ask one question, Sir?"

The general replies, “Yes soldier what is your question?

The private asks, "I am not sure of the correct protocol here, Sir. Do I shoot you or the driver first?"

The beginning of the End

Well, it's starting...remember when Mr. Obama suggested a "civilian" force as strong as the Army?

Seems the Vice Presidents son has declared the Sheriffs office null and void in Delaware, despite that office being designated as the chief law enforcement office by both the State and Federal Constitutions.

If you first eliminate local power of law enforcement; you provide a space for first State, and eventually Federal power to fill the vacuum.

Can anyone say Gestapo ? This is the first step in creating an American version of that odious institution.

Anyone that studies history can see the parallels between what this Administration is doing to what a certain mad Corporal did in 1930's Germany. It almost seems that they are using events in that era as a road map to accomplishing the same structure as eventually emerged then.

Keep your weapons locked and loaded, the time will come soon for Patriots to again rise to the defense of the Republic, only this time it will be a domestic enemy, not a foreign one.

Cali type gun safe

THIS is what it would be like if the GFW's had their way...They may not have the power to disallow private firearms in the home (YET --at least until the UN treaty on small arms takes effect !!!).

WAKE UP People , take back the rights to self defense guaranteed you by the Bill of Rights, or resign yourself to become a ward of the State.

Personally, I believe the only gun control/ restriction should be for those judged to be mentally unfit, or those convicted of past violent crimes.

One Smart Flight Attendant

I haven't been able to confirm this story as of yet, but given the present relations with some of our Muslim brothers, I can certainly believe it's at least plausible.

A 50-something year old Muslim man arrived at his seat on a crowded flight and immediately didn't want the seat.

The seat was next to an elderly white woman reading her Bible. Disgusted, the Muslim man immediately summoned the flight attendant and demanded a new seat. The man said "I cannot sit here next to this infidel."
The flight attendant said "Let me see if I can find another seat." After checking, the flight attendant returned and stated "There are no more seats in economy, but I will check with the captain and see if there is something in first class."

About 10 minutes went by and the flight attendant returned and stated "The captain has confirmed that there are no more seats in economy, but there is one in first class. It is our company policy to never move a person from economy to first class, but being that it would be some sort of scandal to force a person to sit next to an UNPLEASANT person, the captain agreed to make the switch to first class."
Before the irate Muslim man could say anything, the attendant gestured to the elderly woman and said, "Therefore ma’am, if you would so kindly retrieve your personal items, we would like to move you to the comfort of first class as the captain doesn't want you to sit next to an unpleasant person."

Passengers in the seats nearby began to applaud; some even gave a standing ovation.

A Few Easter Thoughts

I was raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, left the Church at 14; found a new home in a Christian church (Disciples of Christ) in my mid to late teenage years, and have sporadically attended various Churches in the years since.

I do not consider myself a Christian in any traditional sense, yet I do have some of that old Catholic training ever present in the back of my mind ( I guess the Jesuits were correct when they stated:"give me a child until he/she's seven, and they will always be in the fold".

So I'm not religious in the sense that I follow any Church tradition, but having said that, I do believe that the any Church I ever attended DID guide me in some way to be the man I am today, and I'm grateful for that. I think the morals instilled in those times have stood me well in my present life. I believe in a Higher Power, even if that Higher Power may not be as presented in traditional doctrine. I'm not so sure about Jesus as an aspect of that Higher Power, but do respect him as a great example of what a man can be and how one single man CAN change the world.

He changed the world with one act that has never been duplicated, and was the proof of his words; He was crucified, died on a cross, was buried and rose to life again on the third day. THAT single action is the linchpin on which Christianity rests; without it, all the rest of the dogma and rituals have no real meaning. I am unsure that I believe the Resurrection dogma/myth/whatever term you want to call it, that is why I do not consider myself a Christian.

Having said that, millions do believe with all their heart and soul, and I envy them their certainty, and respect their belief. The following is a beautiful expression of that belief. I hope you enjoy it for whatever meaning you ascribe to it.

As the light turned yellow...

The light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing,
stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red
light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in
frustration, as she missed her chance to get through the intersection,
dropping her cell phone and makeup.

As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked
up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered
her to exit her car with her hands up.

He took her to the police station where she was searched, fingerprinted,

photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the
door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting
officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind
your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front

of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus

Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow
Me to Sunday-School' bumper sticker, and the chrome-plated Christian
fish emblem on the trunk, so naturally....I assumed you had stolen the
car."

Quote of the Day

I think that a great many people seem to have forgotten the precept outlined in the quote above, most notably, our Resident in Chief.

Mr. Obama is acting as if he were Dictator for Life, rather than just a very temporary Chief of State. Almost every policy he has enacted is against the Common Good of our Country:

1. He has appointed czars by Presidential fiat, without the advice and consent of Congress.

2. He has done everything possible to ensure that our Nation will never become energy independent by not allowing for oil/gas exploration/drilling on the majority of our National land and coasts.

3. He has MANDATED that every citizen shall buy insurance from private or government entities.

4. In a racially charged incident (Trayvon Martin), he gave a Presidential Imprimatur that fanned the flames of racism rather than try to calm the waters.
Even worse, he allowed a private group to openly declare a bounty and advocate vigilantism contrary to established Law.

5. He has spent a great deal of money to protect information that, by rights, should be open and public ie: his birth certificate (the REAL one, not the obvious forgery that he posted online), his College transcripts, what passport he used when traveling to a hostile nation at a time when the State Department disallowed Americans to travel there, and has never explained how THREE different Social Security numbers come back to him, at least one of which indicates issuance in a State where he has never lived or worked.

6. He has offered succor to an Enemy (Advising the Russian President that "he can be more "flexible", once this (pesky) election was taken care of).

That a man so flawed expects that our Military must obey his every whim is beyond belief.

I believe that the time may soon come when that Military MUST stay true to the Oath to the Constitution every member made upon joining and, at the very least, disobey any order made by what I believe is a Pretender, not a President.

That is not something I espouse lightly; I too made that selfsame Oath, not once but three times, and I never found an expiration date on any of the three and that Oath was NOT made to a man, but an Ideal. An Ideal contained and explained in the Constitution.

Mr. Obama made that same Oath, but he has broken faith with that Oath. If not Impeached, he must certainly not be re-elected to the Office that he has besmirched.
