Disney Groomer Corporation Looks to Slash Workforce by 20% Because of Declining Revenues

Palate cleanser, and early. I think we need it.

Some good news, by which I mean bad news for bad people:

The Walt Disney Company is looking at eliminating thousands of positions and has asked some managers to target 20% in annual cost savings, according to multiple media reports.

The possible job cuts come as CEO Josh D'Amaro is reportedly facing challenges from growing AI use, weaker box office revenue, mounting competition from streaming challengers and a slowdown in theme park attendance abroad, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the news.

It's almost as if alienating your (former) core audience with divisive family-unfriendly "inserting queerness" messaging has consequences.

And this isn't the first round of cuts:

...

Still, the company has made a number of substantial cuts this year. In fact, just last week, the Walt Disney Company's theme parks division laid off between 100 and 200 people.

...

The decision came after Disney offered voluntary early retirement packages in August to executives as part of a cost-reduction effort.

...

Prior to this memo, Disney had eliminated 1,000 roles in April, as well as made staff cuts in July and September. The September staff reductions impacted an additional couple hundred employees, mainly in the tech and HR areas.

In further Everything Is Gay news, Ben Wishlaw, who played a young "Q" since Skyfall, was disinvited from returning to the series when it reboots.

He says that he was disappointed, like George Takei was, that, while his character was made Officially Gay, for some reason a franchise in which he is only a secondary player chose to focus on the main characters instead of his secondary character's sexual leanings.

Ben Whishaw has confirmed he won't be returning as Q in the Bond franchise.

Whishaw, 46, played 007's tech wizard Q for nine years, appearing in Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021).

At just 31 when he was cast, he was the youngest actor to play the MI6 gadgets master; replacing John Cleese.

He was a bit of a drip if I'm being honest but I don't know if I can blame him for that. Everyone in the "Bond" movies -- I don't know if they really were even Bond movies at all -- was a sad-sack Low Energy Jeb after Casino Royale, probably because the idiot playing Bond thought that dour and depressive = realistic and gritty.

Oh, and of course Daniel Craig wanted Bond himself to be acknowledged as gay. I guess making Q gay was the Safety School of sexuality reveals.

In a 2024 interview, the actor shared his hunch that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson will 'start all over again' with a completely new cast following Daniel Craig's departure as 007.

Last year Amazon MGM Studios struck a deal with longtime franchise stewards Broccoli and Wilson to take full control of Ian Fleming's franchise, and with auditions finally taking place for the lead role, Whishaw has confirmed his suspicions of a complete overhaul were correct.

The Sunday Times writes that Whishaw 'won't be in the next instalment', whilst talking to the actor about his acting back catalogue.

Whishaw said in the interview: 'I rarely think about Bond... that would be weird' as he mused about the fervent speculation around the reboot.

Me too. I was a onetime Bond fanatic and now don't even care who the next Fake Bond Actor will be.

Whilst he hasn't dwelled on his time with 007, Whishaw does have one regret about his portrayal of Q -- admitting that his character's homosexuality felt 'unsatisfying' because although there is a brief reference to him going on a date with a man in No Time to Die, his sexuality isn't picked up on again.

I mean, why would it be? It's the Bond Franchise not Q's Grindr Adventures.

It's a typical corporate move to make a minor character "canonically gay" for Twitter attention and then drop the matter.

In more James Bond news (and you can tell how checked out I am because I'm adding this as an afterthought instead of featuring it as big entertainment news), they have supposedly cast the new Bond.

As Nerdorotic said: He's white, so that's something.

I think one of those geeks also said something like "He's a decent pick of you're making a realistic movie about SAS operatives from the working or middle class, but not so much for a gentleman spy franchise."

I don't know. I've never seen a movie with him in it, except one of the "Fantastic Beasts" movies where he played, I'm guessing, a very secondary role. I have no memory of him (as I don't really remember the Fantastic Beast movie, except for Randy Daytona, who I really liked).

Update: He played who I guessed he played, "Newt Scamander's" brother, who's in the second movie for like three minutes.

He's also in the upcoming Neuromancer. I don't see him as Bond but I usually don't see actors as Bond. I think I approved of Pierce Brosnan. Otherwise, I'm usually cool on the new castings.

He's got big ears but they've got CGI for that.

You know the 00's in 007 are supposed to resemble eyes? Well now they can suggest ears.

The new Bond will be a Good Listener for women.

Now is the time where everyone will say "They should have cast Henry Cavill" which I sort of agree with but a commenter here pointed out that Cavill is now 40 and they're looking for someone who can play Bond for 10-15 years.

Also, although I like Henry Cavill, and loved his turn as Napoleon Solo, but I don't know if I can see him except as Napoleon Solo.

Eh, who cares, the franchise is dead. The always-wants-to-play-gay-and-dour Daniel Craig and Barbara Wilson put it into a coma with their boring Fake Gritty tone, and now that the Rings of Power Brain Trust at Amazon bought it for several billion dollars, it's officially dead.

Update: Or maybe it's this guy, Jack Lowden, who was apparently in Dunkirk.

Was Elliot Page unavailable for that one?

Apparently Denis Villaneuve will be directing the new Bond movie.

Can I express my Unpopular Opinion without being geekshamed?

Denis Villaneuve is a deeply boring director. He's one of those guys who thinks "prestige" = "slow and Low Energy." A lot of people believe that now.

I was bored by Dune and Dune 2, and I'm not against the story or anything. It's just his need to make everything slow to seem important and weighty almost put me to sleep.

There's just no fun in those movies. They're like big important documentaries about The Holocaust, except it's not a documentary about the Holocaust, it's a fictional movie about galactic civil war in the hundredth century and giant sandworms.

I have similar thoughts on The Batman. Yes I like these stories to be "taken seriously."

But not that seriously. Come on, it's a Batman movie.

I did like the Riddler and his creepy riddles, though. That was very good.

You can now attack me. I will step up and be a scapegoat for the recent unpleasantness. My bad takes will unite us all.

14 The media is always hot to add two guys making out in movies but it tanks the receipts...what to do what to do...

And it is sort of funny, when the media first went gay in the 00s they found that having two starlets lock lips didn't get them much transgressive credit because, uh, some heterosexual men might just be into that.

So the problem is add gay men or trannies and people don't want to watch your movie. Don't add them and your movies are heteronormative and BOOOORRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGG but they make money

I despised his portrayal of Q. Of course because he was a fey little nonce but also because he was completely unrealistic.

Q is the head of Q branch in the MI6, which is a government organization. Governments promote on seniority, not merit. Heads of departments in every government in the world are people in their 60s nearing retirement. This actor made no sense in the role because he was too young. No matter how genius he was, it would have taken him 30+ years to make it to the head of the department.

There is no "mastermind" that can perform world domination. Everything of significance is owned by Fidelty, State Street, Vanguard, Schwab and Blackrock.

Pepsi and Coke send their profits to the same owners.

The West can't even slay its own stupid dragons. UK has absolutely no morals or character, no culture, nothing. So why would a Bond character do anything for England when England isn't worth saving and quite, frankly is probably the bad guy.

The best Craig-as-Bond scene wasn't even in a Bond film. It was in Layer Cake, when XXXX infiltrates Jimmy's mansion grounds to assassinate his boss Jimmy because he's a police snitch.

Then he fucks up by leaving the cartridge cases on the ground for the cops to trace.

75 While we're expressing unpopular opinions, I kinda liked Lynch's Dune. Villaneuve's had some really cool ideas for visual and aesthetic, but it just didn't quite hit for me.

77 Can I express my Unpopular Opinion without being geekshamed?

Denis Villaneuve is a deeply boring director. He's one of those guys who thinks "prestige" = "slow and Low Energy." A lot of people believe that now.

I was bored by Dune and Dune 2, and I'm not against the story or anything. It's just his need to make everything slow to seem important and weighty almost put me to sleep.

He's certainly uneven. I also am bored stiff by his Dune movies (and I love the books and the very bad "Alan Smithee" version, which is at least fun while being terrible). Feel the same way about Bladerunner 2049: a celluloid soporific.

But Arrival, Sicario, Enemy? Really good stuff.

These are the same people now running the western world and especially Britain.

Paul's mom and Dude Bro Momoa were both very good.

The actor playing Paul doesn't physically look the part - he's too frail and effeminate but he can act.

92 The best Bond movies have always been those that tiptoe the line between absurdist camp and gritty realism. Goldfinger, Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, and Goldeneye threaded that needle perfectly. Roger Moore and late Pierce Brosnan veered off too much into the camp lane and Daniel Craig too far into the gritty lane.

No. Bond exists in a sort of "floating timeline." Much like comic book characters. Superman and Batman were introduced in the 1930s but they never age, the timeline just shifts around them. There are numerous references to previous films in the Bond film series. It's meant to be the same guy in every movie. Well, except for Craig's iteration. I think his Bond exists in a completely different universe.

162 This whole TX demos have changed it blue talk is wrong. Here's the last 30 years of governor results before last night:

In 2026, Abbott was between -8 and -11
In 2022, Abbot was about +11.
In 2018, Abbot was about +10.
In 2014, Abbot was about +21.
In 2010, Perry was about +12.
In 2006, Perry was about +10.
In 2002, Perry was about +18.
In 1998, Bush was about +37.
In 1994, Bush was about +8.

You can't explain any of that with talk about blue locusts or swarthy foreigners. TX didn't change that much in 4 years (a 20 or so point swing between 2022 and 2026) and the last 3 decades do not show a slow, steady decline of GOP strength.

The celebrating on the neighborhood's FB page is disgusting. Our neighbor - who has been here longer than we have (she grew up in her house, we moved here in1985) and I were discussing how much everything has changed in just the last 10 years or so.

I figured Talerico was gonna win when I saw all of the yard signs go up over the past few months. The other D wins surprised me, though.

None of the people who voted for them lived in Texas pre-1980 (when Texas went R) - most of them weren't even born then.

Daniel Craig sucked.

Also more than likely.

The good news (for Texas) is the way our system works political appointments are staggered. Our new smug faced governor will have to deal with Abbot's appointees for two years before she can start making her own.

We still got the Senate, the Supreme Court And The Court of Criminal Appeals (the *other* Supreme Court).

Based on the trailers, it looks like Chani is part of the conspiracy against Paul.

Which...let's be honest. Dune Messiah is not only not holy writ, it's not exactly the best book in the series. Changing Chani from essentially nothing in the book to something in the movie isn't inherently bad on its own.

And, since the book is very clear about Paul being essentially Hitler in SPACE and hating what he created, I think there's going to be a lot of misperceptions about what the adaptations get right and wrong.

Richard Donner had it right on the first Superman movie: verisimilitude meaning that it is true to itself. When was the last Bond movie you could say was true to itself? My favorite genre thing lately is Godzilla Minus One and the upcoming Zero, which is completely true to itself and well made. Hollywood could learn a lot from this.

200 What changed between 24 and 26? That's the question we need to answer.

Possible answers:
The Iran War in general
Gas prices (They went down then up)
Healthcare costs (steady upward trend)
Food/Housing costs doubled under Biden, mostly flat under Trump but did not go down much
Deporting invaders

The answer for the 26 election is probably one of these.

Would agree. Demographics are certainly part of the blame. GOP infighting. Complacency from Abbot, who was never really popular. Statewide GOP fatigue.

However, the demographics are a concern because once the jurisdiction is captured, you will never get it back. Harris County on the state macro level would be bad. Hopefully it is more a blip in the road, but the GOP will have to really compete going forward.

Cleaning out the dead growth may be beneficial.

Update: Or maybe it's this guy, Jack Lowden, who was apparently in Dunkirk.

He was? Did he play the part of a piece of wood floating in the Channel?
Posted by: Archimedes

I don't remember him in Dunkirk but he does a decent job in Slow Horses

In Dunkirk, he's Tom Hardy's wingman who gets his Spitfire shot down.

I actually think he's already got the 007 job, because of his fate in the Season 6 finale of Slow Horses. They're just working the PR casting horse-race angle to get people talking about 007. I'll say this, if he doesn't get the job, he's gonna be PISSED.

263 I liked the Dune movie, but it was distorted by fashionable leftist views about religion and colonialism.

In the movie, Paul Atreides uses a fake prophecy implanted by scheming missionaries to guile the upstanding native Fremen into supporting his imperial ambitions. Also, a strong native woman teaches him valuable lessons about fighting and life in general. Yes, Christianity and Europeans are bad and natives are wonderful, I get it.

These elements are present in the original, but with a completely different emphasis. The prophecies are true in some strange way. Paul Atreides becomes more Fremen then the Fremen (cultural appropriation! but not a deception) and fulfills their age-old dream. Fighting is part of the Fremen's culture, there are no pacifists or reticent fighters, and they really don't mind giving their lives for the cause.

"got the 007 job" doesn't mean "he's the right actor for the job". It just means that Amazon thinks he's the right actor for their marketing.

Yeah, he's shorter than Bond should be, and doesn't project the menace you should be getting from a proper Scottish Bond. He does have the acting chops, but he's also kind of on the Roger Moore-ish comedic side of things.

307 Forget mood / tone, The Batman was awful because it was Leftist shite. Young black-Latina female is the mayor of integrity and courage who's going to show whitey how to save a city? Seriously, is there any female black politician (and there are many) who have saved anyone, much less been anything other than a complete racial grifter? Then Lenny Kravitz's daughter's psycho rants about rich white men... The bad guys shooting innocent people were literally ALL WHITE MEN... Coupled with Twilight Robert Pattinson (as opposed to Tenet Robert Pattinson, who I thought was pretty cool) as emo-Batman... Paul Dano was badass and always is, and Colin Farrell was great as The Penguin (though his scream-scolding them for not knowing the difference between "el" and "la" was nauseatingly woke...). The Joker ending was cool too, but overall the movie was crap.

I was wrong about TX in 2026. Plain and simple. I can say so.

But I think people who thought Talarico was going to win, if they were just focused on that race, were right basically by coincidence.

The TX GOP got its ass kicked across the board last night. If a single one its statewide candidates won, that's news to me (including for supreme court, court of criminal appeals - offices people are almost never too worked up about). To say nothing of regional offices like the intermediate appellate court judgeships (which have gone both ways since 2018 by reasonably narrow margins).

Cornyn would have lost last night too if it had been him rather than Paxton. Any R would have.

340 two of Fleming's later books, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice, are very good. Many people rank OHMSS as either #1 or #2.

His last book, The Man with the Golden Gun, was unfinished when he died of a heart attack and is clearly a first draft. The completed "book" actually contains what are obviously two different rewrites of the same scene, but just presented within 10 pages of each other.

Fleming's quality drops and rises by book but I dispute that there is a falling off in his later books. Some of his worst books, Diamonds are Forever and Live and Let Die, are early. His absolute worst, the Spy Who Loved Me, is middle.

The swim Bond makes in the open ocean from his rented villa to Mr. Big's lair were some of the most thrilling pages in all of spy fiction. She's fine looks-wise. Not spectacular, not ugly. She always plays the same character, and like a lot of actors who do that, it sometimes fits and often doesn't.

About the only state that was able to beat things back was FL. But even there, it was tight.

373 It seems possible, with recent AI advances and bugs being found every week in the infrastructure, from PHP to Linux, that left-wing people in the tech industry have discovered some new vulnerabilities in electronic voting systems.
Who knows. Will a statistical analysis show some correlation between the voting systems used and Democrat gains? It should be interesting to test.

I'd be totally up for Trump using the Insurrection Act here in Texas to disqualify the winners ala Lincoln if it could be -

iron-clad proven that voter fraud swung the election and who did the fraud and paid for it were known.

That won't happen though so talking about a cheat is kinda worthless.

376 The only real miss was Zendaya who was clearly playing Zendaya the whole movie.
Posted by: 18-1 at November 04, 2026 03:38 PM (sKqQm)

She was bad, her character (Chani) was worse. The script went from her being a zealous Fremen to scoffing at their religion. From being hurt but behind Paul in his decision to take Irulan as his wife to storming out of the room. In the books she is a strong woman willing to make sacrifices. They "modernized" her and turned her into a b*tch. Zendaya added on "boring".

How so? GOPe wouldn't touch anything Vance said about the election with a 10 mile pole, and I've read that Trump agreed with him.

378 I had no problem with any Republican office holder. They made Texas an economic powerhouse while maintaining a low cost of living , defied the left and secured the border on our own and expanded my 2nd amendment rights.

384 Turnout number totals about normal for a non Prez Election.... but EVERY single county in Texas went further Dem? in EVERY RACE?

From Governor to Railroad Commissioner? That seems statistically odd.

There were whispers of a warehouse in Houston containing pallets of pre-marked ballots, several hundred thousand of them. Haven't seen any substantiation of this, but:

A. It would explain a lot if true.
B. Knowing what I know about Dems and their election malfeasance, I can't disregard it as a kook conspiracy theory.

385 According to Vance, the prime concerns of voters polled were: an end to the the war with Iran, focus on cost of living/inflation, put America first, and a change in our relationship to Israel. All of those except the first one require some participation/engagement with congress. Thune and his minions effectively put the kabash on that effort. PDTS should have crushed Iran and then bombed the rubble.

That's what the Democracy Files game plan was designed for. They knew their cheating would lead to a constitutional conflict that they could use to get governors to engineer a complete overthrow. That's exactly what they want.

392 Another survey of one:

I hate Trump personally and really don't like him being the standard bearer of a movement I support.

I also really disliked the do nothing Republican rep we had until yesterday. (He lost to a Dem who had already been defeated in two previous races.)

That said I went out and voted for all the R's yesterday. Can't say I'm overly upset about the loses of the people I voted for since they were mostly useless anyway.
