The Morning Rant

As gratifying as the prospect is of a Marine Le Pen and National Rally win in April's National elections in France, it is dangerous to assume that she will lead from the right in all matters.

Her economic philosophy is protectionist more than anything else, and her fiscal policies focus on redirection of government spending to citizens, rather than the more rational decreases that are vital to France's emergence from its budgetary disaster.

Will her immigration reforms do the job? Probably, but she is conspicuously quiet on any sort of remigration of citizens who have demonstrated antipathy toward France. And while she supports sharply decreasing legal immigration, she plans to "restrict" rather than abolish birthright citizenship.

Le Pen Extends Presidential Polling Lead as France Slides Into Chaos

According to Elabe, a French polling firm, Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Rally (RN) party, leads the field for the 2027 French presidential election, with 32 percent support. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the far-left France Unbowed party, is on 15.5 percent. Former French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, leader of Horizons, an establishment-aligned centrist party, also secured 15.5 percent. Raphaël Glucksmann, leader of the center-left eurofederalist Public Square party, secured comparable support, with 15 percent. This follows Glucksmann’s successful bid to obtain the endorsement of the Socialist Party after running in the party’s primary.

Is she going to win? Maybe, but don't count out the establishment elites of France who are terrified of a Le Pen win and will do anything to prevent it. Remember, she is still under what is essentially house arrest that has been stayed during appeal.

But the bigger question: is she the best candidate for France? And the answer is a resounding 'No." Eric Zemmour and his Reconquête party are clearly the best choice for a shot at an economically powerful and culturally healthy France.

And he is polling as an also-ran, so it just isn't in the cards, which is too bad, because he would truly throw the bums out!

2 I think countries like France and England gave citizenship to conquered peoples. So i don't think it's as easy to kick out someone for not being "French" as it is for a true illegal alien or someone who committed fraud when applying for citizenship.

National preference in access to social benefits and public procurement
A €1,000 annual tax on employers hiring non-EU workers

A referendum on immigration after the legislative elections
Suspend Schengen and reclaim national border control

France also is facing some very serious economic issues and the top related issues are costs and gas prices. To help one popular measure is reducing the VAT from 20% to 5.5.

59 I know it sounds bad, but Le Pen and her party can be best described as 'Nationalist Democratic Socialist'.

She is typical left-wing French when it comes to the welfare state, unions, protectionism, etc.

The only real issues NR departs from the left on is immigration and the EU. They will be slightly more fiscally conservative, mostly because they have no choice with the bond market revolting, but they will never go full blown American capitalism.

If Le Pen wins she will face the same kind of friction and resistance that Trump has faced, and who knows how that will work out in riot-prone France.

She may be end up as a band-aid on a limb that's about to be amputated.

A big cause is the way we’ve allowed our education system to decay into a parody of its former self. Education used to not just rote repetition and opinion, but training the young How to Think. What is rationality? What does it mean to think logically? What is the nature of cause and effect?

We’ve raised a generation (with some exceptions) that understands none of that. All they know is Feelz, and when things go wrong they act like infants in adult bodies.

I went to a small Christian school. We didn't even have the budget for shoestrings.

But what we did have were teachers (like my mom) who loved passing on knowledge. It was more like a college than grade school, with all the lectures and note-taking. My 4th grade teacher passed away last month, and she's the one who taught us how to properly take notes.
