Posted by: Bulg Nope. Latin-American Wars of Independence. From Wiki: "Manuel Atanasio Girardot Díaz (French: [atanazjo ʒiʁaʁdo]; May 2, 1791 – September 30, 1813) was a Neogranadine military officer and one of the heroes of the Colombian and Venezuelan wars of Independence. The historical content for the painting is unimportant. It could stand for any righteous rebellion and those committed to it, even to death. The dead and wounded, the broken swords, the pose of the dying Giradot, still resisting, against the bright sky and colorful flag (which s not damaged) makes the sacrifice all the more poignant. It is an effective, emotional painting that goes beyond the actual event.

An amusing anecdote to add to the "leftists are all hypocrites" pile.
Stuart Gordon, film director of the first Re-Animator and fairly far-left political voice, spent a few months discussing sequel ideas (Bride of Re-Animator) with his producer David Yuzna. However, Gordon's agent convinced him to not do the sequel because it wasn't good for his career to do a sequel. So, Yuzna took over the writing on his own. However, Gordon wasn't happy. Yuzna was using ideas that they had discussed together. If Yuzna was going to use those ideas, Yuzna had to pay Gordon. Now, this is fairly standard stuff in the film industry, but Gordon is a radical leftist who hates capitalism. Who won't let a fellow creative, someone he worked well with, just have some ideas that they worked on together without causing problems, much less demanding personal lucre. Extremely minor point of film history and an example of hypocrisy that will convince no one of anything other than that leftist love money for themselves no matter what they say. Still, it entertained me. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, precisely framed and deadpan with Wes Anderson at October 22, 2026 10:17 AM (qGAQr) 126

A man and his wife check into a nice hotel. The man notices a woman in the lobby and tells his wife that she's a hooker.
The wife says no way... she's just wearing sexy clothes for a party or something. To prove his point, the man approaches the hooker and offers her $50 (intentionally low-balling it, because he doesn't want her to actually accept). She refuses and tells him it's $200. The man has been been proven right. Later in the evening, the man and his wife are eating dinner in the hotel restaurant. The whore walks in, spots the couple, and says to the man: "You see?
