Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Wednesday Night ONT - October 14, 2026 [TRex] Good evening Horde! The time has come for mid-week shenanigans of the overnight variety. The bar is open and fully stocked. Step up and place your order. Welcome to the Wednesday night ONT which means another edition of random overnight fun and games. Pull up a chair and join the fun. Good will offerings of amusing puns are encouraged. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors. If you're a troll, go away. This is a Tucker, Candace, Megyn, and Bill Kristol free zone. Please. [Top photo: Consuaga, Tennessee]![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I had a two-hour job. Three things, from a pallet that had been leaning in my workshop for a year. So naturally I spent the whole day avoiding it. First I built a tool to help me build the thing. Then I made rhubarb compote. Then there was lunch, which became the whole family, which is how lunch usually goes here. The cat supervised. The pallet waited. This is a video about wasting a day, and about how a day you waste with the people around you might be the only kind worth keeping. It's also about sawhorses. Mostly the sawhorses.Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Correspondence can be sent to moronhobbies at protonmail dot com where it will be promptly sorted and processed. Are you lurking ???? Oh, and how long would it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick all the seeds out of a pickle?
Answer: Can't be done. Dill attracts parasitic wasps and robber flies. These two species are natural predators to grasshoppers. So, that brings us to Sam Raimi. What's he got to do with this, you ask? Well: He directed "The Quick & the Dead." And, the grasshopper would be the latter. Posted by: Orson at October 14, 2026 10:15 PM (dIske) 51

No, Inbred Empire* is Riverside, San Berdoo - I think. Imperial County is a different thing. No nickname for it here. Usually just "El Centro" or "the desert".
Sometimes go out to El Centro to catch the Blue Angels' first show of the season, first Saturday in March. That's their winter training home. One year it was 97 degrees. First weekend in March. Guess that's one reason they can grow multiple crops of lettuce each year. * nothing against that area, just a nickname, as Americans love to create nicknames, usually deleterious, for everything. Before these areas became so crowded and developed, they were pretty nice - lots of citrus orchards, beautiful mountains, quiet. Posted by: rhomboid at October 14, 2026 10:58 PM (U/Byj) 157

Local news does a shitty job.
There was a 3 mile long drop of semi-solid manure on a state highway, that caused delays for 3+ hours, and I can't find any story about it. If I hadn't heard it on my scanner, I wouldn't have known why it happened. I suspect the fire department, and others, who had to clean it up were ok with the cloudy weather in the upper 60s, instead of sunny and high 90s. 156 No, Inbred Empire* is Riverside, San Berdoo - I think.
Posted by: rhomboid at October 14, 2026 10:58 PM (U/Byj) The beach kids call them 909ers, after the area code for Riverside/San Bernardino. Not in a complimentary way. In the Southern California context it's Riverside/San Bernardino, not the Imperial Valley, which is not to be confused with the Chrysler Imperial, which is a car, not a valley. Chrysler might also be a good name for a cat. Do you have a cat? I don't have a cat, or a dog right now. Am I rambling? Cause it feels like I'm rambling...not to be confused with a Rambler which was also a car but combined with Nash and Jeep the become AMC which was eventually bought out by Chrysler.... I'll shut up now.... KFRG (K-Frog) is the leading Country Station there. Posted by: Anonymous Rogue in Kalifornistan (ARiK's phone) at October 15, 2026 12:30 AM (QGaXH) 224

I am imbibing something a little bit stronger than cocoa. But thanks for the offer.
Spending the next week or so moving back into the house. Renovations are nearly done, although we still have to use the shower in the camper for a bit. Got the bed moved into the new bedroom, chairs, dressers, closet with shelves, etc. Starting to move stuff into the kitchen, although we still don't have the plumbing in place entirely. Fridge is in, range, still working on the dishwasher (which I haven't had in two damned years!!), and the ice maker in the bar is still waiting. But, it's beautiful, and the good part is that I will be taken out of it in a pine box, so I'm happy. Hot tub? Not quite yet, it's in Fairbanks, but soon. Soon.
