98 Andrew Wyeth doesn't often do 'happy' scenes like Norman Rockwell. (Even his "Christina's World" is about a crippled woman facing, literally, an uphill struggle.) Although accurate, he doesn't try for photo-realism. What he does is effective through focus, color and perspective. In this one the focus is on the dead bird that couldn't survive the winter. The colors of the land are drab, the sky is dark and cold, and the trees in the distance are bare and stark. It is unromantic nature.

But it isn't despair. The viewer knows it is a season, not permanent. The plants in the foreground with their seed pods speak of new life to come. Not one of Wyeth's I would hang but it is worth the time to examine.

126 Poor ace.😢

Winter Fields, 1942
17 5/16 × 41 in.
Andrew Wyeth

Whitney Museum of American Art

When many American artists were turning toward abstraction, Andrew Wyeth remained a realist, producing precise, evocative paintings of the places he knew best. Winter Fields depicts a dead, frozen crow Wyeth found near his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. He took the bird into his studio, sketched it, and then painted it in exquisite detail from a worm’s-eye view, which magnifies the bird relative to its surroundings and thereby suggests the wider significance of its death. Completed during World War II, Winter Fields recalls similarly unflinching photographs of corpses lying on battlefields. Yet Wyeth resented comparisons of his work to photography and said he despised cameras. In fact, despite its apparent precision, Winter Fields subtly distorts reality. The distant trees are as sharply focused as the crow in the foreground—an impossibility for both the human eye and the camera lens. This visual effect compresses the pictorial space toward the surface, and is accentuated by the lacelike, overlapping blades of grass, which create a delicate surface pattern.

A local, I'm biased.💖

Obama lost Texas, though, when the state wasn't quite as red as it is now and Biden hadn't dealt a deathblow to Hispanic support of the Democrat Party by ruining the border counties through an open borders policy.

"Legal immigration" now includes accepting any asylum claim anyone throws out and giving them work permits while never following up on the asylum claim or any immigration related matter at all.

What the right considers to be "legal immigration" is a remnant of a memory from the 1950s, not the reality of American immigration since Ted Kennedy spewed forth that immigration bill in the 60s.

We can't have "legal immigration" again until Hart-Cellar is repealed or we get a comparable bill to the 1924 Immigration Act.

277 The core problem with Talarico's campaign beyond the fact that he's a Democrat running in a deep red state is that his past is full of crazy woke comments about God being non-binary, there being six genders, his hating Christianity, him loving trans-kids, him voting against bills in the state House that banned Chinese ownership of land in the state, and his avowed hatred of white skin.

He was a woke retard in the state house.

He didn't get pushed to the left when he decided to run for US senate. He had to pull himself towards the center.

If that causes him a mental breakdown, he's a bad person and we should mock his infirmities.

Agree. I've often wondered that about Graham Platner and a few other extraordinarily odd & outrageous individuals being put up for political offices well above their capabilities (I hope).

Mockery of voters? IDK.

332 Legal or illegal? That makes a HUGE difference.

My grandparents were LEGAL immigrants. I'm 2nd generation American on both sides.

My grandparents came from Sweden and eastern Europe, prob. Ukraine today, and landed in Canada. Their daughter, my mother, emigrated to America and took the citizenship test only a few years after she got here.

My father was born and grew up in Lousy-ana, but that's technically still America, right?

335 I don’t think Talarico is playing 4-d chess or anything. But I also don’t think it will have an effect either way. Is there a subset of voters who really hate Trump, love them some socialism but will be oh wait he’s missing from the campaign, fuck it Paxton it is.

No there is not.

I’ve long thought these endless campaigns are a waste of time and money. People vote D or R or toss a coin. Do bazillions of dollars spent change that many minds? I don’t think so.

342 I find hard to believe the stories about Talarico being full section-eight, although I tend to agree with nurse that if he had a psych episode, it's not a joking matter.
It does seem strange he's been incommunicado for almost #twoweeks though. That is a long time to be feeding ducks in a retreat, especially in OCTOBER DURING AN ELECTION.
*ahem*.

It is bizarre, his campaign is locked up tight with nothing at all scheduled for him. They are being tight lipped as well and are not responding to the taunting from the paxton campaign. No official word on what is happening.
