The hysterical overreaction to a run-of-the-mill autumn Nor'Easter that is currently hitting the northeast is embarrassing, and there is plenty to be embarrassed about when there isn't some rain and wind! It is -- of course -- driven by the frantic desire of the so-called "elites" and their lackeys in the compliant media for more evidence of the carbon apocalypse. Sadly for them, that evidence is shaky, and this year it is particularly pathetic because we haven't had a hurricane this season, and that is a very rare non-event!

Because they blame all intense weather on AGW, or the more convenient, "Climate Change!" The shift was clever, because now they can blame literally everything on the world's insatiable desire for energy: too much rain or not enough rain...too hot or too cold...too much cloud cover or not enough cloud cover...it doesn't matter to them. The panic is the grift and the kink!

So the colossal killer storm they predicted has turned into a three-day rain with a bit of wind. And the rain never fell particularly hard, so it has been nicely distributed with almost no pooling of water in my driveway! As for the wind? It is often windier around here when there isn't a Nor'Easter, so that should tell you how intense the weather has been.

There are real issues however, but they will not be discussed by the bien pensants because it might contradict the dominant paradigm of AGW. With population growth and the concomitant covering of land with impermeable roads and houses and parking lots and stores, there has not been a commensurate increase in infrastructure to handle the water. And why is that? Because our state and local governments are consumed by other issues like CRT and Equity and Latinx Outreach and healthcare for undocumented voters and transsexual dance recitals in our schools...

So when you turn on the news and see streets awash in a few feet of water, or subways that are flooded, realize that there are rational engineering solutions for many of these issues, but they are not prioritized. And those beach houses that float away? Many of those homes are built on barrier islands that are created and destroyed by the natural action of the ocean. When there were only a few homes on those islands it wasn't a big deal, but now, with increased wealth and population, more people are building, and more people are losing those homes!

The media love the hysteria, and they play it up and try to terrify us, because terror is what they want. Never mind that they are showing America that they simply cannot be trusted...with anything! Not even the weather forecast.

If you want the explanation for that according to the weather gurus, here it is:

This year's Super El Nino involves a significant rise over normal (around 3.5 degrees, I think) in the mid-latitude eastern Pacific Ocean surface temps.

That rise in temperature has created an atmosphere which has spread eastward into the mid-Atlantic.

That atmosphere produces conditions (vertical windshear, mainly) unfavorable to tropical cyclone generation in the main development area of the Atlantic basin.

A couple of big trees came down on our street. They fell nicely, so no widespread power outage. They are already being removed and the lines are being repaired, so obviously this "storm" is a nothing-burger.

In Oregon the thing that seems to have curbed the massive wildfires seems to have been a combination of allowing cutting on forest land by the feds to make firebreaks and access for the fire crews, and not giving the state extra money "for massive wildfires"
This year was being pushed as yet another massive fire year, up until the feds said, "nah, those don't qualify"

46 I know if its a brutal rain by looking at one section of my back yard. There's an area that forms a giant puddle that may cover the grass. I didn't get shit with this rain. No puddle. I can tell how hard its raining by how hard it hits the skylights. When its a good rain you know it. I didn't hear shit. Most of the rain was a soft drizzle. It get slightly heavy for a very short time and turned off like a switch.

I got to visit the new inlet that was formed between Frisco and Hatteras Village from Hurricane Isabel in '04. About a 100 yards wide, it took NCDOT a couple months to fill in and repave. Hatteras Village was cut off except by boat all that time. That one really messed the area up. There were houses, garages, way out in the Pamlico Sound.

Same with barrier islands along the Gulf. I live on Big Lagoon, right across from the barrier island of Perdido Key, east of Johnson Beach. Hurricane Sally's storm surge cut through that island creating three little islands in the process.

1.) Global warming makes hurricanes worse

2.) Global warming makes more El Ninos (and therefore the negative effects that occur during El Ninos can be attributed to evil CO2.)

The alarmists like to claim that both ends of a teeter-totter are going to be in the bad "down position" more often. Kindergartners are smart enough to realize the falsity of that position.

When I point out that truth about El Ninos typically making the Atlantic hurricane season more gentle, they literally cannot process truthful information that does not fit inside their constructed narrative.

11 days here as well. Ran off emergency generator for those days. We have well water, so the generator powered that, the electric hot water heater (by shutting down a few other circuits for 30 minutes, as well. Fridge and basement freezer were powered too. Cable was out, but I still had my roof antennas for off air, so we were never really out of touch. What was funny, we still had a landline, so I plugged into the land line with an old Sony laptop and found an AOL modem in New Brunswick, so I was able to go online and send emails. Also, to read AOS HQ. Heh.

Now, I am not trying to make light of this storm, but it WAS NOT a hurricane! Yes it dropped some rain and had some serious winds, but NOTHING like what a hurricane would do.

Let's be honest, a nor'easter is a hurricane-lite. It's not even a tropical depression really. It's NOT a named storm (with how liberal NOAA is with "naming" lately). Anyone who has lived on the East Coast for more than 10-15 years would just prep a little and otherwise dismiss this.

What I am trying to say, is that storms like this are NORMAL in certain seasons (usually fall with rain, or late winter/early spring with a crapton of snow). So if you are PAYING ATTENTION, you know how to PREPARE.

If it's not obvious I am "late Boomer/nascent Gen X", so I think you should LEARN how to prepare and SURVIVE.

A big problem here was flushwater for commodes. I daily used my lawn tractor and small trailer to haul around 5 gallon containers of water, siphoned from a pool, to my neighbors. I've commented that all of our houses began to assume an aroma of unflushed commodes and spoiled food.

Here, the No. 1 co-ordinators were the churches. Volunteers, donation centers, critical supplies, food. There wasn't a church, no matter how rural, that did not have volunteers and tents filling the parking lots.

Having visited Old Ellicott City MANY times, I can see why it's problematic. You pay any attention to the hydrology and how the main street follows the feeder stream,...that's flash flood central.

Arizona doesn't change their clocks. BUT on our recent RV odyssey we overnighted in Tuba City* Az in the Navajo 'Nation' (NE Az). It was a long day and we didn't get in until 8:30 PM. Upon check-in they informed that the Navajo 'Nation' DOES observe DST so now it was 9:30 PM! We left the next morning for Mesa Verde.

*We didn't see a single Tuba the entire time we were there. Guess they keep them in a warehouse out of sight somewhere.
