I would take "Social Realism" much more seriously as a style if it weren't used so transparently to advocate for socialism.

It's good to be exposed to 'art' like this. It makes you appreciate the real thing.

101 aha, here is what this is, from some website :"Where is this group? In a place New York new longer has (is that a fact ??), a relief station—where jobless people with no money to buy food or pay rent sought what was known as “home relief.”

Relief stations weren’t new. But with nearly one third of the city out of work at the height of the Depression and a government more willing to distribute relief to people in need, dozens of home relief bureau stations popped up across the city...Relief stations also became targets for activists—who petitioned (or rioted, depending on the report) for more help for New Yorkers to pay their bills. On at least one occasion, a South Williamsburg relief station was stormed by a hundred people who demanded that relief be given out a lot more quickly.

While we still have home relief—just under a different name—these portraits remind us of what the term used to mean, and how relief stations were part of the fabric of the 1930s city."

112 Home Relief Station, 1935-36
Louis Ribak

Wikipedia, in part, "Born to a Jewish family in Grodno in the Russian Empire, Ribak emigrated to New York City at the age of ten with his family."

In the 1930s and 1940s, Ribak painted in a Social Realist style, exhibiting with fellow Social Realists like Reginald Marsh and Raphael Soyer.

In the 1930s, he also worked as a muralist for the Works Progress Administration; among these works is the 1939 mural View Near Albemarle in the U.S. Post Office in Albemarle, North Carolina. In 1933, he assisted Diego Rivera on his mural Man at the Crossroads, commissioned for Rockefeller Center and destroyed before completion.[1]

"Ribak met fellow artist Beatrice Mandelman in New York at a dance sponsored by the Artists Union, and the two married in 1942.[2] He served in the military for two years during World War 2 and was discharged because of asthma.[1] Seeking a healthier climate, Ribak and Mandelman moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1944.[1] At this point, Ribak shifted to a more abstract style and brighter color palette."

So the US socialists of long ago are much the same as now; White/white adjacent, ever demanding, and shirking real work. 🤔

BBC removes article claiming bare nails trend perpetuates 'White supremacist' beauty standards

Piece linked unpainted nails to class and racial stigma before widespread backlash prompted an editorial review

The original article, "How the bare nails trend became a class issue," explored the beauty trend of women preferring clear and polished "naked" nails over the more stylish nail designs over the past few years.

The Sun editor-at-large Harry Cole wrote, "This is mental. Not painting your nails is now White supremacy coded, apparently. Are they hoofing nail polish remover over there?"

But this isn't what the left really means - they will quickly tell you that as you aren't an "expert" so you aren't allowed to question authority.

So who determines who an expert is? Oh, the left does. Experts have to echo the narrative or they aren't experts.

Facts are neutral. Truth is reached by contemplating what follows from those facts, but only with honesty and rigor.

The leftist way is to use facts to craft lies. They gaslight you into thinking that the veracity of some nebulous, floating "fact" somehow proves the monstrous conclusions they pretend to draw out of it.

Biden and the like don't even do that much. They just lie outright and act like you're the problem if you don't believe it.

171 Al Jazeera, US Senate also rejects bill targeting AI data centre electricity costs
Democrats criticise bill as lacking ‘teeth’ and push for mandatory measures to address soaring electricity bills.

In part, "Only four Democrats — Maggie Hassan, Amy Klobuchar, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock — joined Republicans to support the bill, which proponents argue would have eased the burden of rising energy costs on individual households."

And,
"The Ratepayer Protection Act, a first-of-its-kind bipartisan bill, was aimed at addressing the economic concerns linked to the expansion of data centres.

It passed the House of Representatives earlier this month in a landslide vote of 417 to three.

But Democrats in the Senate argued the bill does not go far enough to protect consumers from high electricity bills. Rather than requiring states to “consider” a federal utility rate standard, some senators advocated instead for mandatory enforcement to guarantee consumer relief."

Democrats are faced with the reality that in order to have a chance of winning the House, they have to win 20-30 seats that President Vance won by between 5-15 points. The rift between the DSA (or whatever they call themselves at that point) and the older establishment figures has been heating up as the far left of the party insists that the only way to win Vance+10 districts is to go harder on gay race communism.

I think it's fine to outsource your investments, but as a member of Congress that outsourcing should be made public. And whomever is doing the investing shouldn't take "tips" from a sitting member of Congress on what to buy or sell, and when.

If that was the gist of the bill, then the Senate can go horsefuck.

191 >>That’s kind of a loaded headline. Insider trading is against the law for everyone right? I assume the bill just tried to make stock trading more restrictive for members of Congress.

Not really. By the nature of their jobs members of Congress see privileged information about publicly traded companies that the rest of us do not have access to see. So do their staffs. Which is a big reason people like Pelosi routinely outperform people like Warren Buffett.

Not only do they get to see the information they make legislation that can effect a public company's stock performance dramatically. When they make individual stock trades it is the very definition of insider trading.

Yes, insider trading is against the law for us common folk. It is not for members of Congress. That's why they routinely vote these bills down and make many times their salary every year in the market. It's also why people who could make a larger salary in the private sector spend so much effort to go to DC.
