Bloomberg-Backed Climate Group Paying Salaries of Democratic State AG Officials Quietly Shuts Down Amid Congressional, Legal Scrutiny

The initiative's website states that it is 'historical material,' and its leaders no longer list it as their employer on their LinkedIn pages

A group housed at the New York University School of Law and backed by billionaire climate activist Michael Bloomberg quietly closed its doors in late August amid congressional scrutiny into its funding and operations. The so-called State Energy and Environmental Impact Center's signature initiative involved placing paid, climate-focused "fellows" in Democrat-controlled state attorney general offices nationwide as those offices sued the oil industry and other energy providers.
The center's sudden closure comes as a surprise: It continued to update its public database tracking state attorney general actions relevant to its climate priorities until Aug. 31, the date of its apparent closure. It also released an episode of its in-house podcast, Recharged with the State Impact Center, less than three weeks prior to that date. And in its 2025 "year in review" report released last December, the center indicated that it would continue operating throughout 2026.
But prior to its closure, the center was coming under increased pressure for effectively paying the salaries of state law enforcement agencies that were pursuing lawsuits in line with the center's priority of going after energy providers.

The disappearance of the center comes as it faced multiple congressional and state-level investigations over alleged ethics issues related to its funding and its practice of paying the salaries of officials it placed in state attorney general offices. Media reports and lawmakers often referred colloquially to those officials as "Bloomberg fellows" because Bloomberg helped found the center in 2017 with two seed grants worth $2.8 million each. Tax filings show that Bloomberg provided the grants through his eponymous charity, the Bloomberg Family Foundation--one of the country's most influential charities--that focuses on climate activism.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee opened an investigation into the center last year, stating that its activities "raise questions as to whether participating state attorneys general are acting on independent judgement to best serve the interests of their states' citizens."
"The Bloomberg-NYU program effectively offers states partisan money from a billionaire to carry out official functions of their offices," the panel wrote at the time. Bloomberg, it continued, "disguises his donations as 'philanthropy'" and uses the impact center as a mechanism "to skirt legislative bodies and effect partisan policy."
In a statement to the Free Beacon, the Oversight Committee's chairman Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.) said he remained concerned that the center "undermined public integrity and pushed radical Democrat policies that increase energy costs for Americans, despite billing itself as 'nonpartisan.'"
"The Committee is glad to see that this center will no longer be in operation," he added.

His reckless driving criminal charge, which carried potential jail time, was reduced all the way down to an improper driving traffic infraction. Improper driving is several steps below reckless driving and carries no jail time.
For comparison, in 2014, Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth was convicted of reckless driving and sentenced to 10 days in jail for driving his Porsche over 100 mph on the Capital Beltway (Source: ESPN). Fairfax County General District Court Judge Penney Azcarate said at the time that the jail sentence was appropriate given the excessive speed.

You'll never find me insisting that's what it is, or even that people that don't accept it are in some sort of denial. I'm just putting that scenario out there.

It's also because while I can side with the idea it wasn't intentional, it's not something I have knowledge of that I can insist it's not intentional.

So, when the scenario of its being intentional came up, I put together a scenario of how I believe it could be intentional.

I personally know quite a few people who make money when they file their income taxes. EIC can be up to $8,000 if you have a couple of kids. And that ain't a tax credit, that's cash money they get back when they file their tax return.

For me, that's a strawman. I'm not saying anything "was" anything. I'm explaining a scenario.

Because I can't say it definitely wasn't intentional. I wanted to. I started to. But as I thought about it, the scenarios for intentionality came to me.

First of all, they could have spent a billion on that one photo, and yes, it still could have been incidental or simply whatever shapes they were. That's not off the table. So it's not like money = inevitability.

So when I said that people would be shocked at how much money they spend to engineer photos it's not about shapes can't be incidental. But it is about how much attention and engineering goes into one single photo that attenuates the case that something is simply incidental. Which leaves room for a separate thing to be engineered into the shot.

And repeatedly I have said that if they did one end, they probably did the other. I am not affirming what the other side "found" was intentional, only that they may have planted a semblance that guerrilla viral marketting would crop.

So when I said that people would be shocked at how much money they spend to engineer photos it's not about shapes can't be incidental. But it is about how much attention and engineering goes into one single photo that attenuates the case that something is simply incidental. Which leaves room for a separate thing to be engineered into the shot.

As far as I saw, there is no frame in the video that is posed like that picture. It is a separate release of ~4 stills, not the video. AFAIS. There no frame with her putting the shoe on her head, AFAIS, but there is a still.

And the fact that it convinces you that other pictures other stills means it ABSOLUTELY was not intentional is something somebody could predict and use.

It does not diminish the engineered controversy scenario. In fact, it makes a better case for why converse is expecting more than a momentary backlash.

You have to look at the whole scenario I have proposed. None of it is "racist".

The intentional scenario finds it very likely that Converse set up the controversy by planting a semblance and then anonymously revealing it.

There is no way Converse could have paid for this much of their name in people's mouths.

At least I'll say about Owen is that he bankrolled the whole "change". You didn't have to join his communes, and he didn't try to change your society in place.

And that's exactly what Marx thought was "socialism done wrong". It was voluntary.

Marx provided a logistical path to Owen's solution. He rode the wave of Rousseau, developed a theory of history, and made a crude "plan" of how to get to Owen's communes through historical development.

The funny thing is that Marx turns out to be the first person to say "He didnt' do socialism right".

All of these things conspired to turn elections into advanced auctions for stolen goods, since the one-way ratchet of returning to office is through gifts of other people's money.
