122 Evening Calm, Concarneau, Opus 220 (Allegro Maestoso), 1891
Paul Signac

The Musical Connection: Signac was fascinated by the analogies between art and music. He painted five related images of fishing boats in the Brittany town of Concarneau, assigning each a musical tempo as a subtitle.
This piece is titled Allegro Maestoso (meaning "quick, lively, and majestic").

Technique: Following Georges Seurat's rigorous color theory, Signac used the pointillist method. He applied unmixed, precise strokes and dots of color separately onto the canvas, allowing the viewer's eyes to optically blend the brilliant hues into a radiant glow.

Visual Theme: The painting depicts the serene, flat waters of the Concarneau harbor. It is known for its luminous, pastel-toned sky and the subtle interplay of oranges, blues, yellows, and purples reflecting off the water.

I like the 'personality' of yesterday's painting a great deal, but this painting is very nice - and part of such a unique theme for fishing boats - and I would certainly consider hanging it.

Thanks

124 Like yesterday's art, the Pointillism technique becomes another element of the image. Not just what is shown but how. In this case the intricate combinations of the dots of color help create the atmosphere of a light misty morning on the water. It's effective.

This makes me want to learn how the colors are chosen to create the effect desired. I assume it's not just trial and error.

125 'This case was never about race. There's going to be those people now, just, you know, try to throw shade on the whole trial with the jury makeup and the speed of it and that sort of thing.

'I mean, those are the same people that said he was jumped by four people. He had, his phone was broken. You're going to spin whatever story to try to keep yourself afloat.'

He added: 'I'll even say this: I had a little bit of sorrow because I'm human. And that poor boy is fixing to experience a life that I would not wish upon anyone.'

I would have thought that the artist would vary the spacing of the dots to create the shapes and depth of the objects, but the dots are actually fairly evenly spaced (to my eye at least) and the varying colors and light/dark contrast are used for defining the shapes.

143 I learned that Pointillism is usually done with oil paints, at least the ones in museums. But the choice of the colors, often a bit richer than realism, makes me think of the intensity of soft pastels which are so vibrant.

I'm intrigued by the technique. Paul Signac's Wiki page includes a self portrait done in ink using the Pointillist technique. It is so subtle and detailed it looks like it could be a photo that has been pixilated, if that's the term, in Photoshop.

But I'm not actually in their culture. My understanding is that ADOS (as opposed to African immigrants) are hyper-sensitive to diminutives, addressing an adult like a child, because they associate it with slavery culture. But for all I know they go around calling each other 'child' all the time. They certainly have a double standard with the n-word, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

Too many people underestimate Trump's tenacity here including House and Senate members. Remember the whole border wall issue in his first term, McConnell and Ryan just weren't going to close the border. Now, the wall is nearing completion, we have net population decrease due to illegals/etc. leaving, funding for kicking out a bunch more through 2029 regardless of who controls Congress, etc.

Iran would do well to remember this as well. Trump is willing to wheel and deal to get chunks of what he wants while giving some often temporary concessions but he will always come back to grab some more if he really wants something done. Same with renovating DC, he goes around, below, above, etc. obstacles.
