Old Civilizations, Wonderful Things ABC quoting Trump on April 8:"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will," Trump wrote on his social media platform. At the same time, continuing a series of mixed messages, Trump said "maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen" now that the U.S. is dealing with "different, smarter, and less radicalized" leaders in Iran.Ace on April 8: Communist Dingbats Yesterday Until 7pm: Trump Is a Madman! He Will Nuke the World! Communist Dingbats at 7:01pm: TACO! Trump Is a Huge Pussy Too Afraid to Do What Is Needed and LET THE NUCLEAR BIRDS FLY!!!!An amazing collection of commentary on Trump's usual "chaos" step in his negotiation tactics. (Don't comment on old threads) I noticed that the government of Iran (or whoever is sort of running things) did not believe that Trump was going to kill everyone in the country. They sent women and children out to become human shields for dual use facilities which Trump said he was going to bomb. In other words, THEY were willing to kill everyone to win. But if you have to communicate with a reasonable sceptic, VDH may help, with By All Means, Let the War Crimes Trials Begin: The Left and some on the Right went crazy over a recent Trump tweet. He warned that if the Iranian regime did not cease blocking the international Strait of Hormuz, he would hit its dual military-civilian infrastructure. He promised that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” His wording may have been sloppy, but Trump obviously meant that the murderous civilization/culture of radical Iranian theocratic Islam would cease to exist and wouldn’t come back once power plants and transportation systems crucial to the regime’s survival were cut off. Why do we know that? Because, unlike in most prior American wars, Trump has never targeted dual-use infrastructure—not in bombing ISIS, not in removing the Venezuelan thug Nicolás Maduro, not in the 2025 bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities, and not in the present war—with the exception of a key bridge central to the regime’s efforts to reposition missile assets to avoid air strikes. Ever since Trump announced that “help is on the way” to the Iranian people, the entire aim of the five-week war has been to selectively target the regime’s command and control and military assets. The goal was to diminish its threats abroad, while weakening and humiliating the mullahcracy at home—so that soon the Iranian people might at last be able to overthrow the odious theocracy. Trump’s critics knew all that. But they see political advantage in tagging Trump as a Strangelovian madman, no different from the Nazi criminals in the docket at Nuremberg. A few less unhinged people argue that his rhetoric nevertheless comes across as unpresidential. Perhaps. But it may be no accident that his Gen. Curtis LeMay-like bluster might have pressured the Iranians to reopen negotiations. On Monday, the Democrat Borg was declaring Trump a savage maniac.Continue with this video. VDH looks better, doesn't he? Among the many genius effects of Trump is that his crazy-man approach to dealing with our enemies only makes our enemies more insane and intransigent than before. I refer, of course, to the Democratic Party (and the mainstream media, but I repeat myself). It is a remarkable thing that Iran appears (at this writing—this could change before these pixels are dry) to be more reasonable than Democrats when it comes to Trump. I hope he keeps his laser-pointer fully-charged and holstered. Listening to Claire de Lune in a deeper way (video short) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Kfq-Vx6p2YA Inspired by a poem There masque and bergamasque charmingly, Playing the lute and dancing and also Sad beneath their disguising fanchise. All are singing in a minor key Of conqueror love and life opportune, Yet seem to doubt their joyous revelry As their song melts in the light of the moon. In the calm moonlight, so lovely fair That makes the birds dream in the slender trees, While fountains dream among the statues there; Slim fountains sob in silver ecstasies. The story behind the New York Times’ 1903 claim that human flight was between one and ten million years away is even worse than it looks. Once you understand the backstory, you realize that the New York Times story is not really about flight at all but about how elites and credentialed “experts” mistake their own failures for the boundaries of possibility. The New York Times did not dismiss the possibility of powered flight at random. There was a very specific reason behind it. At the time, America’s most prominent scientific authority, Smithsonian Secretary Samuel Langley, had been showered with large amounts of taxpayer funding to build an aircraft, the Langley Aerodrome. Despite all the money, institutional backing, and elite prestige, Langley and his team could not get it to fly, culminating in a series of very public failures, the last on December 8, 1903. So when the New York Times declared that flight was millions of years away, what it was really saying was that if the most credentialed and well-funded “experts” cannot do it, then it cannot be done. A mere nine days later, the elites’ proclamation of impossibility lay in ruins. Two totally unknown bicycle mechanics from Ohio achieved the first powered flight using improvised parts, a few hundred dollars of their own money, and sheer persistence.Buzz Aldrin book for kids Shoot the Moon (book) Moonshot Misdirection (Landing Lunacy Theorists) All has not been sweetness and light at NASA. A U.S. appeals court on Friday declared unconstitutional a nearly 158-year-old federal ban on home distilling, calling it an unnecessary and improper means for Congress to exercise its power to tax. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled in favor of the nonprofit Hobby Distillers Association and four of its 1,300 members. The ban was part of a law passed during Reconstruction in July 1868, in part to thwart liquor tax evasion, and subjected violators to up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. I should add, that if Iran wants to be dickish, and target third-party tankers, there is no reason at all for them to confine their hostilities to the Straits of Hormuz. They could just as easily launch missiles against vessels anywhere in the Persian Gulf, or the adjacent part of the Indian Ocean. Tankers tied up at docks, and taking on cargo at any of the Gulf ports would be sitting ducks for kamikaze minisubs.

I noticed in the table of contents that the NASA whistleblower has specific ire for two people. “How Ronald Reagan **cked the space shuttle” and George HW Bush (who I despise as the creator of the deep state). His intro mentions his criticism of the human flight program.
I think it’s mostly self serving. I think he is a crab in a bucket. I have PhD in risk assessment. I know NASA became super conservative after shuttle. Elon was severely criticized for dropping risk levels for his engineering and we now have Starship and Starlink and maybe the moon and Mars. Artemis was a big show and it’s over now. But when lunar landings start again, with rovers and a planned permanent moon base, new technology will be contracted out to private firms.
The artist's rendition of a future moon base here reminds me of some of the torn-up landscape we passed this week from the probably-doomed high-speed rail project in California. I certainly hope that no one considers messing around with the moon. Considering we know the moon affects things on the planet, such as tides. Who knows what else it affects. And if we mess with the moon, that could badly affect those things. The 2002 movie "The Time Machine" comes to mind. When Guy Pearce travels to the future and the world is seemingly coming to an end and he's told it is because of the drilling on the moon and the moon breaking up because of it. I know it's just a movie, but we do know the moon affects the tides on this planet. And I wouldn't put it past people to go all "Jurassic Park" and "not stop and think if we should" and start drilling on the moon and end up creating issues no one foresaw. Morning, all!
Quick check in from the Island of Misfit Toys, enjoying springtime showers, which looks like 1-2 feet of the white stuff for the Sierra. A pain to deal with now, to be sure, but a boon for the snow pack. This high-speed train to nowhere BS reminds me of all the graft and corruption around The Big Dig (remember that?). But OK, just say the foolish project gets completed. Big whoop. You end up at your destination and you still don't have a decent last mile solution. You have to grab a taxi/Uber, or have someone fetch you at the station. That's fine for SF; public transportation here is pretty robust. But what about LA? The city is too big and spread out to make that work. That's the one hitch no one seems to care about. Posted by: Effie Perrine at April 11, 2026 01:40 PM (b77PF) 128
This is an excellent book. I highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject. I've told this story before, but after I read my hardback of this book, I mailed to what what I thought was Gene Kranz's address and asked him if he would autograph it. Not only did I get it back signed by him, he also included some patches and trinkets for Jr. Black, who was grade school age at the time.
Posted by: Lady in Black ====== Might also want to pick up "A Man Called Flight" (Chris Kraft's autobiography) if you are interested in NASA. Chris lays out the specific steps he and others took to create the Manned Flight Space Center flying by the seat of their pants. Chris actually started at NASA's predecessor--NACA after WWII. A lot of homage in the book to Robert Gilruth who was a legendary NASA division head and to some, not all, of the Mercury astronauts. Gilruth wrote one book which is out of print--1965-Making of an Astronaut and he died in 2000. I think Chris has passed on now as well. Posted by: whig at April 11, 2026 01:42 PM (E4rtv) 129

Who was the pinhead who came up with this idea and why are taxpayers dollars funding it? When it's completed we could call it 'The Pony Express'. Posted by: Rev. Wishbone The same people that are obsessed with putting in rail systems in urban areas. Lots of developer and manufacturing/construction grift who kickback some of the money to politicians. And later, a lot of the street level rail is quietly removed from service when they prove to be a traffic menace and under used. Subway systems end up crumbling and becoming unsafe as druggies/criminals/insane spend their time terrorizing ordinary citizens until the ridership drops to the desperate folks that cannot afford to run a car or get rideshares/taxis. Bus systems are the least preferred from the grifting system and again, ridership is mainly the economically desperate along with the criminals/druggies/insane. We cannot have fine things in this world because of leftists worship chaos because it makes things so bad in society that their putrid revolutions take place. http://tiny.cc/zrp1101 Posted by: Joe Kidd Easier to build track through desert but only about 1/3 or less of the actual funding has been secured. Again, the point of these exercises is not to actually create a train but to allow people with sticky fingers (politicians, construction, real estate developers, mfgs) to get all sorts of money out of the taxpayer and investor wallets. Vegas itself has been steadily remaking itself into a premium and exclusive resort by pricing into the stratosphere. I don't think they want the grubby day tripper penny ante gamblers from LA. If you apply Mel Brooks, 'The Producers' formula to public works nowadays, you realize the failure to actually do much of anything with gobs of money disappearing is the point. Same reward to interest groups and politicians involved whether the project fails or not. So the grift is the aim, not success and the rubes have to pay for it. Postscript to 143: The price tag and progress to the Las Vegas rail project is entirely due to it being privately funded and government participation was kept to the barest minimum..
