We didn’t choose to police the world—we earned the burden by pretending we didn’t have to. In a borderless, asymmetric world, refusing to act early doesn’t prevent conflict—it guarantees a bigger one.
People wonder why America is filling the role of global police when Trump promised no more new or “forever wars.” I think there is a simple reason—and it is one I have personally experienced over a business career that included frequent international travel, extended assignments abroad, and even a few years living overseas. 9/11 changed more than just America; it changed our relationship with the rest of the world and how American citizens moved through it. Personally, I went from believing I had a kind of protective aura because I was an American to understanding I was a target. As terrorists grew emboldened, it became clear that if I were detained or kidnapped, there was no guarantee American assets would be coming to retrieve me. Holding an American passport was no longer a guarantee. When I landed in Dubai in 2002 on an American Airlines flight, I remember thinking that being an American on an American airline, flying over Middle Eastern terrain within MANPAD range in a plane with a big American flag on the tail, might not have been the best idea.
It also awakened me to the reality that as America pushed globalization, we failed to recognize that globalization works in reverse—importing cultures and people not aligned with American principles and values. That realization only deepened when former President Obama worked to diminish American standing and leadership in an effort to make us just one nation among many. He and his allies believed that being a superpower drew too much attention, and that if we were simply another country—like those in Europe—there would be less threat to America and Americans. Ludicrous. When America appears weak, as it did during the Carter, Obama and then the Biden administrations, the threat does not recede—it grows.
The truth is that America has always been more than “Team America: World Police.” It has been the world’s sin eater.
In historical lore, a sin eater is someone who takes on the sins of another through a ritual act, absolving them and allowing them peace. America has often played that role—absorbing the consequences of global disorder and, in the process, preventing humanity from being permanently stained by the worst evils men inflict on one another. At times, this “sin eating” has not only preserved peace but advanced the broader cause of civilization.
There is a simple rule about problems: they rarely improve when ignored. More often, they grow—and once they metastasize, they become far more difficult to resolve quietly. That is why I find the assertion that Iran “presented no imminent threat” to America so unconvincing. . .Read the whole thing, if you have time. I have seen arguments from the Woke Right that if the Ayatollahs really intended to destroy "all Jews", "all Infidels", etc. they would have already murdered members of minority religions in their own population (rather than murdering protesters?) Perhaps they have never heard of the Hidden Imam.
It was a busy week! The Democrats conducted one of their periodic “no kings” self-owns, while the Noem family experienced an unexpected bump in the road. April Fools Day came and went, and Tiger Woods’ vehicle once again let him down. The conflict in Iran continued, but memesters didn’t seem to notice. The Supreme Court heard a big birthright citizenship case, and if some of this week’s memes puzzle you, google “KitKat.”

That's why we need a bit of modern colonialism. Either working with other or just by declaration, establish a few small, strategic territories, held by massive military bases. Personally, I think Gibraltar should be the first, maybe Cyprus later.

I don't know what a dead man would say, but I have to figure he'd take a roughly similar position, since he wasn't a total cheeseball hustler like Carlson, et. al.

A young man I know well is going through chemo now for a brain tumor. He's having a tough time. Prognosis isn't great. He's still in his 40's.

TL ; DR -- How roughly 80% of the "working able" are dissuaded from entering the workforce through the various welfare programs that supply food, medical care, housing and even a basic monthly income. It's a huge factor in the fraud, and a reason why there's little interest in Congress to eliminate said fraud.
The author thinks it's essentially reparations given to this group to remain dependent on government, which in turn provides government with a side revenue taken from the actual productive people (taxes). And a reason why DOGE, an outfit that exposed the fraud, was the shortest lived government department in American history.

There are some of the US documents released eventually under FOIA. Basically we ran a low rent version by bribes, spending on grants, etc. to intellectuals, spent some money on propaganda against Mossadegh's regime, etc.
Brits, however, were more deeply involved due to the situation regarding the nationalization of their oil assets in Iran (they were broke and this would make them even broker). And they persuaded Ike to send Kermit Roosevelt to Iran to take over the joint operation to oust Mossadegh.
We had the money, the Brits had the contacts, and both were used to get rid of Mossadegh by persuading the Shah at the time to finally dismiss Mossadegh again.
Mossadegh though was a thorough going participant in making things worse and worse by becoming a tyrant himself well before he got ousted.

One of the political problems with the Shah Reza Pahlavi was that his father was deposed by the Brits in 1941 for being too pro Not See and Persian oil was absolutely necessary for the Brits to fight. So the Brits, with US acquiescence installed the son as Shah. For whatever reason, the last Shah's tumultuous term in office in his early years probably led to his reliance on SAVAK secret police later. He left to Rome during the peak of the Mossadegh era, had fired but then retracted his firing of Mossadegh as PM, and most likely had little stomach for being in the midst of a civil war.
An interesting sidenote is Averell Harriman who later married Randolph Churchill's first wife, Pamela Digby, was sent to Iran to straighten out its rail system for Lend Lease shipments to the Russians. That is in part how he became the Democrat's senior foreign policy advisor on the Middle East and Russia.
It was both UK and US coaxing that they would support him returning and firing Mossadegh for the final time that probably persuaded him to do it.

Apparently viewed Ataturk as someone to emulate and he was the one that created the hatred of the mullahs toward the Shahs. I think "woke right" are all the people who think of themselves as "conservative" in the same way that some people think of themselves as "christian" (but gossip, backstab, or run over people in the parking lot to get the best spot for a quick exit on Christmas and Easter).
They are as addicted to public virtue signalling as any nitwit on the loud left, and it is as fueled by social media as it is by allowing any and everything to be made to be about Trump.
I don't know how to fix it, other than to attempt to snap people to actual reality--"yes, I understand, orangeman so bad america so evil, now, about this specific problem, how do we fix it?" and just keep slapping them with specifics until their eyes clear a bit, they grow a spine of their own that isn't constructed of likes and cares and shares from the cool kids, or until they STFD and STFU.

Aldrin is correct that Conan didn't see the actual moon landing, because there wasn't a live video feed from the LM.
What we saw on TV was an animation, but what we heard at that time was live radio communication from the LM.
IIRC (I was twelve YO at the time), as Armstrong descended the ladder from the LM, he activated a TV camera on one of the lander's legs, which, as grainy as the B&W image was, showed Neil stepping on to the surface of the Moon.
Once the astronauts returned to Earth, the 16mm Point of View film shot from a camera mounted in a LM window was developed, and that's when we were able to see what Neil and Buzz saw as the LM was coming in for its landing.
