Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Holy Saturday and the world keeps turningArtemis is an absurdly expensive boondoggle & it will cost the same as ~14 hours of Medicare/Social Security spending We didn’t choose to police the world—we earned the burden by pretending we didn’t have to. In a borderless, asymmetric world, refusing to act early doesn’t prevent conflict—it guarantees a bigger one. People wonder why America is filling the role of global police when Trump promised no more new or “forever wars.” I think there is a simple reason—and it is one I have personally experienced over a business career that included frequent international travel, extended assignments abroad, and even a few years living overseas. 9/11 changed more than just America; it changed our relationship with the rest of the world and how American citizens moved through it. Personally, I went from believing I had a kind of protective aura because I was an American to understanding I was a target. As terrorists grew emboldened, it became clear that if I were detained or kidnapped, there was no guarantee American assets would be coming to retrieve me. Holding an American passport was no longer a guarantee. When I landed in Dubai in 2002 on an American Airlines flight, I remember thinking that being an American on an American airline, flying over Middle Eastern terrain within MANPAD range in a plane with a big American flag on the tail, might not have been the best idea. It also awakened me to the reality that as America pushed globalization, we failed to recognize that globalization works in reverse—importing cultures and people not aligned with American principles and values. That realization only deepened when former President Obama worked to diminish American standing and leadership in an effort to make us just one nation among many. He and his allies believed that being a superpower drew too much attention, and that if we were simply another country—like those in Europe—there would be less threat to America and Americans. Ludicrous. When America appears weak, as it did during the Carter, Obama and then the Biden administrations, the threat does not recede—it grows. In historical lore, a sin eater is someone who takes on the sins of another through a ritual act, absolving them and allowing them peace. America has often played that role—absorbing the consequences of global disorder and, in the process, preventing humanity from being permanently stained by the worst evils men inflict on one another. At times, this “sin eating” has not only preserved peace but advanced the broader cause of civilization. There is a simple rule about problems: they rarely improve when ignored. More often, they grow—and once they metastasize, they become far more difficult to resolve quietly. That is why I find the assertion that Iran “presented no imminent threat” to America so unconvincing. . .Read the whole thing, if you have time. I have seen arguments from the Woke Right that if the Ayatollahs really intended to destroy "all Jews", "all Infidels", etc. they would have already murdered members of minority religions in their own population (rather than murdering protesters?) Perhaps they have never heard of the Hidden Imam. It was a busy week! The Democrats conducted one of their periodic “no kings” self-owns, while the Noem family experienced an unexpected bump in the road. April Fools Day came and went, and Tiger Woods’ vehicle once again let him down. The conflict in Iran continued, but memesters didn’t seem to notice. The Supreme Court heard a big birthright citizenship case, and if some of this week’s memes puzzle you, google “KitKat.” Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

So, the Apollo I mission was faked? Because everyone involved seemed completely convinced that Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee burned to death in the capsule during a launch rehearsal.
We also apparently "faked" the Apollo XIII mission, which never made it to the moon. We were damned lucky to get that crew back to Earth alive. Posted by: Sam Adams at April 04, 2026 11:33 AM (X+xvk) 12

I don't remember where I read it, but there was a pretty interesting write-up on the welfare state that is the US these days.
TL ; DR -- How roughly 80% of the "working able" are dissuaded from entering the workforce through the various welfare programs that supply food, medical care, housing and even a basic monthly income. It's a huge factor in the fraud, and a reason why there's little interest in Congress to eliminate said fraud. The author thinks it's essentially reparations given to this group to remain dependent on government, which in turn provides government with a side revenue taken from the actual productive people (taxes). And a reason why DOGE, an outfit that exposed the fraud, was the shortest lived government department in American history. Posted by: Martini Farmer at April 04, 2026 12:04 PM (AkEZC) 61

I always said the Soviet probe onto the hellworld, which they kept alive taking pictures for an hour, was the most awesome accomplishment of any space program.
Maybe the Cassini-Huygens mission comes close. Speaking of atheism, that does however mean Venus remains NOT under the Russian Orthodox Church. The Moon, of course, sits in the episcopacy of the Orlando diocese of Catholicism. Posted by: gKWVE *************************** Photographing the surface of Venus is profoundly impressive. I would say the United States throwing our toys out of our crib with the Voyager missions is a greater accomplishment. We went on a grand tour of our solar system, set our sights on exiting it completely, and that technology built in the early 1970's is still broadcasting. Iran was the first big example of a phenomenon that has played out many times in the Middle East, North Africa and Europe:
1.) Communists make common cause with Islamists, because they are common enemies of the West and capitalism. 2.) Communism is an ideology for coddled intellectual materialists, and Islam is a spiritual ideology, and thus inherently much more powerful - so at the nearest feasible moment, they break their bond, and feast on their erstwhile ally. It happened to the Soviets in Iran and Afghanistan, and it happened to the various Leftist terror orgs in Europe, and now it's happening to the half the European continent. At this point, the Left ain't coming here for the hunting. I think they have a deep-seated psychological urge to be dominated by Islam. It is my understanding that there are no documents to support CIA involvement and the sites promoting this line like are fake. Some created by Mosaddeh fanboys.
Posted by: runner There are some of the US documents released eventually under FOIA. Basically we ran a low rent version by bribes, spending on grants, etc. to intellectuals, spent some money on propaganda against Mossadegh's regime, etc. Brits, however, were more deeply involved due to the situation regarding the nationalization of their oil assets in Iran (they were broke and this would make them even broker). And they persuaded Ike to send Kermit Roosevelt to Iran to take over the joint operation to oust Mossadegh. We had the money, the Brits had the contacts, and both were used to get rid of Mossadegh by persuading the Shah at the time to finally dismiss Mossadegh again. Mossadegh though was a thorough going participant in making things worse and worse by becoming a tyrant himself well before he got ousted. Posted by: whig at April 04, 2026 12:12 PM (E4rtv) 76

@56 runner-iOperations Ajax(US) and Boots (UK) happened but Mosaddegh was appointed prime minister by the Shah. Prime Minister’s served at his pleasure and he went through ten of over the period of his reign 1941-1979. The US and UK helped facilitate the removal of Mosaddegh after he dissolved the Iranian parliament. He was the “coup”. There would be a better argument of western powers meddling in Iranian affairs with how the Shah came to power in 1941 than what happened in 1953.

I read 20th century public affairs history as a hobby and a lot of the old supporting documentation has eventually dribbled out. Sifting through the JFK and RFK recent releases along with other released documents from that time has given me a new appreciation for CIA tactics domestic and foreign. Essentially I learned, there is NO such thing as a former CIA officer, asset, or informant. Second, they rely on plausible deniability tradecraft where the lowest level 'handler' does not keep contemporary notes (the FBI does something similar with their notes) but gives edited paper reports to their superiors summarizing a situation report from the asset. Second, the attitude among the intel officers is pretty much us against the world. Third, given Colby's excellent account of his time in Italy when the US was battling Communists there, Colby describes trying to separate the domestic leftists from the Comintern sponsored evil ones. He spent time cultivating and essentially bribing all kinds of leftists and their papers/comms, despite these were political competitors for the main Christian Democrats. Thus controlled opposition technique. Posted by: whig at April 04, 2026 12:22 PM (E4rtv) 92

Khorramabad residents, for example, wildly rejoiced at hearing of the monarch's return and threatened to destroy the homes of Tudeh leaders. Security forces prevented them from doing so. (U) Before dismissing reports like those from Khorramabad as propaganda, it must be remembered that CIA was able to influence directly events only in the capital city, and there only barely. runner,
One of the things that historians (writing from the left) keep insisting is that Mossadegh was so popular. I think that the nationalization of the British oil industry was popular (just like Nasser seizing the Suez Canal) but not Mossadegh personally as much. What is untold is the Soviet archives of what the KGB was doing there, they directly subsidized the Tudeh and had networks there in the Northern half from WWII before withdrawal. Similar to what they left in Austria or Greece. What is unclear is how much leftists taht were Mossadegh's base who were not overt communists were subsidized and provoked by Soviet black propaganda. 105 Afyer they flipped the prime minister who reinstalled the Shah?
Posted by: Boss Moss One of the political problems with the Shah Reza Pahlavi was that his father was deposed by the Brits in 1941 for being too pro Not See and Persian oil was absolutely necessary for the Brits to fight. So the Brits, with US acquiescence installed the son as Shah. For whatever reason, the last Shah's tumultuous term in office in his early years probably led to his reliance on SAVAK secret police later. He left to Rome during the peak of the Mossadegh era, had fired but then retracted his firing of Mossadegh as PM, and most likely had little stomach for being in the midst of a civil war. An interesting sidenote is Averell Harriman who later married Randolph Churchill's first wife, Pamela Digby, was sent to Iran to straighten out its rail system for Lend Lease shipments to the Russians. That is in part how he became the Democrat's senior foreign policy advisor on the Middle East and Russia. It was both UK and US coaxing that they would support him returning and firing Mossadegh for the final time that probably persuaded him to do it. The disastrous effects of the Carter Administration are still being felt today. The disastrous effects of the Clinton Administration (shutting down our superconducting super collider in Texas, giving China dual-use supercomputers, encryption boards, nuclear weapons secrets, MIRV technology, helping them get their ICBMs through Stage Three) are definitely being felt today, and will echo for a long, long time.
The disastrous effects of the Obama Administration (shutting down NASA, bowing to radical Islam, sending billions to Iran) and the Biden Administration (surrendering to the Taliban, sending billions to Iran) will also reverberate through the ages, to the detriment of all civilized peoples. Democrats excel at shitting on America's future. Posted by: Sam Adams at April 04, 2026 01:00 PM (X+xvk) 149

I think "woke right" are all the people who think of themselves as "conservative" in the same way that some people think of themselves as "christian" (but gossip, backstab, or run over people in the parking lot to get the best spot for a quick exit on Christmas and Easter).
They are as addicted to public virtue signalling as any nitwit on the loud left, and it is as fueled by social media as it is by allowing any and everything to be made to be about Trump. I don't know how to fix it, other than to attempt to snap people to actual reality--"yes, I understand, orangeman so bad america so evil, now, about this specific problem, how do we fix it?" and just keep slapping them with specifics until their eyes clear a bit, they grow a spine of their own that isn't constructed of likes and cares and shares from the cool kids, or until they STFD and STFU. Aldrin is correct that Conan didn't see the actual moon landing, because there wasn't a live video feed from the LM.
What we saw on TV was an animation, but what we heard at that time was live radio communication from the LM. IIRC (I was twelve YO at the time), as Armstrong descended the ladder from the LM, he activated a TV camera on one of the lander's legs, which, as grainy as the B&W image was, showed Neil stepping on to the surface of the Moon. Once the astronauts returned to Earth, the 16mm Point of View film shot from a camera mounted in a LM window was developed, and that's when we were able to see what Neil and Buzz saw as the LM was coming in for its landing. Posted by: barbarausa Most of the top ones on social media or in print are simply shameless grifters that get paid by leftist donors (Billy Kristol or David French for example) or actual leftists. Nick Fuentes for example is a leftist psy op. Under no current circumstances can one say generally that voting for the Democrats is better than voting for the GOPe. And the reason is that mass propaganda has been perfected in the world in the twentieth century. How to correct it; first you have to learn logical fallacies and formal logic. There is a reason that engineers and trial lawyers are probably the most resistant to propaganda of some sorts.
