Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Preparing for Thanksgiving - Gratitude![]() Tajikistan curbs the influence of islam and promotes Ancient Persian heritage as a state policy. This includes banning Arabic names, cousin marriages and long beards. It also includes promoting native clothes and dance. The West should take note. This costuming is rather attractive compared to what you see in Iran these days: From the beginning of this video, the celebration of the preservation of ancient Persian culture seems to be a big deal. Even though Russian is an official language in Tajikistan. A backstory begins to emerge: there were Arab invasions. Overview The authoritarian regime of President Emomali Rahmon, who has ruled since 1992, severely restricts political rights and civil liberties. The political opposition and independent media have been devastated by a sustained campaign of repression, and the government exerts tight control over religious expression and activity. Wealth and authority are concentrated in the hands of Rahmon and his family. Key Developments in 2024 Tens of thousands of Tajikistani migrant workers returned home or were deported from Russia in the months after a March terrorist attack at a concert hall in Moscow that killed nearly 150 people. The attack was claimed by an Afghanistan-based terrorist group, Islamic State Khorasan; Russian authorities attributed it to Tajikistani migrant workers and attempted to link them to Ukraine. The ensuing crackdown on migrants in Russia prompted many to leave, and those who remained faced increasing pressure to enlist in the Russian military. In July, Tajikistani and Kyrgyzstani delegations reported progress on the delimitation of their shared border. . . Legislation adopted by the parliament in May and signed by the president in June banned the import, sale, and wearing of clothes that are deemed to conflict with “national culture.” Violations would be punishable by fines. The law also imposed restrictions on certain religious, cultural, and family celebrations. Independent journalists continued to face persecution during the year. For example, Ahmad Ibrohim, editor in chief of the newspaper Payk, was arrested August on dubious charges of bribery, extortion, and extremism. The outcome of a closed-door trial was pending at year’s end. Tajikistani authorities persisted in their extensive efforts to detain and punish political dissidents who had sought refuge abroad. . .So, are you also grateful not to be in Tajikistan? Or Iran, where the ancient Persian culture in Tajikistan mostly does not seem to have survived? Any other countries you are particularly grateful not to be in today? ![]() Other things for which I am grateful I am grateful today that I am not Candace Owens
For the most part it was a pretty quiet week. Many longstanding stories continued to make headlines: the UN adopted President Trump’s peace plan for Gaza; the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration continued, as did the Democrats’ lawlessness; and there were various shutdown post mortems. These topics did not gain the attention of meme-makers. Rather, this was the week of Jeffrey Epstein. Or, rather, the week when the Democrats got their wish, thousands of pages of Epstein documents were released, and the upshot was–as we already knew–that Epstein, a Democrat, had Democratic friends and hated Donald Trump. So the whole thing, from the Democrats’ standpoint, was an exploding cigar: ![]() Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Posted by: Martini Farmer at November 22, 2025 11:27 AM (NwnyJ) That's the problem the Hun had. Picking up lands occupied by swarthy foreigners, and when they tried to conscript them into the military, they wouldn't fight. So they came up with the brilliant idea of putting the kids in these places called schools. Started with the little kinders. It seemed to work at churning out loyal citizens of the state. Education Department functions are moving to other agencies. So yeah the department is dead or dying but much of the shenanigans will live on by other names.
“The Education Department, in the latest step of the Trump administration’s plan to dismantle the agency, has begun transferring its employees to other federal agencies. The department said Tuesday that it signed six new interagency agreements to transfer some of its programs and employees to the departments of Labor, Interior, State and Health and Human Services, in order “to break up the federal education bureaucracy.” Education Secretary Linda McMahon told employees in an all-hands meeting that the department is soft-launching plans to reassign its work to other parts of the federal government, before calling on Congress to permanently shutter the agency.” Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at November 22, 2025 12:24 PM (/AUU2) 88

I’ve always thought that between the ancient empires of the world, Persia would have been the best to live in as an ordinary person. (Save maybe for Egypt at the time of the pyramids). And Tajikistan is ignoring the most important part of that heritage; Cyrus decreed that all of his subjects could follow any religion they preferred , so long as they did not interfere with the functions and duties of the State. Actually, oddly enough, I have always regretted not getting to Tajikistan. Was supposed to go several times, but "security conditions" in the capital, Dushanbe, caused the embassy to veto any official visitors. Kind of funny when compared to the post-9/11 world, where active war zones were ho-hum normal places for large numbers of personnel.
And the "security" problem was just garden variety mayhem/idiocy in a bad part of town involving various clan/faction/whatever groups engaging in very low-intensity shenanigans. Anyway Dushanbe wasn't the destination really, that was the mountainous area of Gorno-Badakshan in the east. Roof of the world. Had some stuff going on there. Colleague made it there several times and enjoyed it. Great people, amazing setting of course, Ismaili-flavor of Islam (with the Soviet denaturing), so very mellow. And there are ethnic German enclaves as well, such as Blumenau (where, decades back, I heard German being spoken between 20-somethings, on the street). Since then she's been relegated to mostly meaningless committee appointments where she strives for at least a sound bite. IMO she didn't follow the new rules when McCartney was tanked, and thus, paid a political price. Posted by: Martini Farmer at November 22, 2025 01:36 PM (NwnyJ) 160
Thing about old Adolf was that out of all the evil dictators he was the only one who truly believed the story he sold his public to get into charge. Rest of them had the primary goal of getting in charge and staying there. There's a good case that Nazi Germany would still exist except Adolf HAD to do his "racial purification" stuff. Many Russians would have helped the Germans get rid of the Commies and trying to kill all the Jews used a lot of resources and the Jews were no danger. Russians werent so excited about helping once it was made clear to them that Adolf planned on eradicating them.

Posted by: JackStraw at November 22, 2025 11:42 AM The midterms are going to be a bloodbath for President Trump and the Republican Party unless they do a complete 180 on H-1B visas and pandering to India and China regarding jobs. The GOP base is white men, young and old, and this is the demographic suffering the most from illegal aliens taking jobs, H-1Bs taking jobs and jobs being outsourced to India. Short of the GOP making it their platform to end H-1B program and put a 10-15 year moratorium on all immigration and continue deporting ALL illegal aliens, the GOP base will be gone. First important world ruler to ever do that. Posted by: Tom Servo at November 22, 2025 12:31 PM (/ZNPI) Tajikistan is tackling the problem as best as they could, considering they have a despot leading the country. That is the issue I am talking about with regards to Green. As far as I know, President Trump has been pushing H-1B visas ever since he regained the White House. As have Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk. And those of us who have suffered from H-1Bs and outsourcing over the past 4+ years are getting disillusioned with that. And that must be the #1 issue to tackle heading into the midterms. Department of State@StateDept . Nov 21
Mass migration poses an existential threat to Western civilization and undermines the stability of key American allies. Today the State Department instructed U.S. embassies to report on the human rights implications and public safety impacts of mass migration. Mass migration is a human rights concern. Western nations have endured crime waves, terror attacks, sexual assaults, and the displacement of communities. U.S. officials will urge governments to take bold action and defend citizens against the threats posed by mass migration. Officials will also report policies that punish citizens who object to continued mass migration and document crimes and human rights abuses committed by people of a migration background. These issues have plagued citizens of Western nations for years: In the United Kingdom, thousands of girls have been victimized in Rotherham, Oxford, and Newcastle by grooming gangs involving migrant men. Many girls were left to suffer unspeakable abuse for years before authorities stepped in. In Sweden, an Eritrean migrant convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl CONTINUED Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at November 22, 2025 02:20 PM (LEuDt) 180

of raping a 16-year-old girl was allowed to remain in the country after a judge ruled that the incident was not an “exceptionally serious crime” and did not warrant deportation. In Germany, nine men – several of whom were migrants – were convicted for the gang rape of a 15-year-old girl. A German woman who insulted one of the rapists online was given a harsher sentence than the perpetrators themselves. U.S. officials will now scrutinize policies in Western nations that give leniency to migrant crime and human rights abuses or that create two-tiered systems that prioritize migrants at the expense of their own citizens. The United States supports the sovereignty of our allies and calls on governments to constructively engage with the growing numbers of citizens concerned about mass migration. The United States stands ready to assist our allies in solving the global crisis of mass migration. https://tinyurl.com/y8xhhbd8 OK, now do USA. I visited Tajikistan's capital of Dushanbe (former Salinabad) in 1976, as part of a tour what was then Soviet central Asia. Much of the city had been leveled by a major earthquake a few years earlier, and was badly rebuilt in Soviet-style concrete. One change that the Soviets made was changing the written language to Cyrillic letters from Arabic script. I wonder if they've changed back. The people were lovely; Persian women are some of the most beautiful in the world. (Side note, the most beautiful woman I've ever known was the daughter of an Iranian father and Swedish mother. And the amazing thing is that she didn't seem to realize that she was drop-dead gorgeous: she was really nice, very down-to-earth. Go figure!)
The photo accompanying the article, though, looks to me like it was taken in Uzbekistan rather than Tajikistan - specifically, in Samarkand. The building in the background reminds me of the massad of Ulugh Beg, the learned son of Tamarlane, and the women look more Turkish than Persian, based on my 50-year-old memories of the region. But I'm no expert, so YMMV. Posted by: Nemo at November 22, 2025 04:48 PM (4RPgu) 203
