In truth, I'd wager that the abuse of inside information, and knowledge of potential legislation/mandates was abused across the political board on an almost equal basis between Dems and Repubs. It's a right of passage.

I'd wager that the behavior is reinforced by the congressional leaders, who are probably the worst abusers...Pelosi, McConnel, Schumer, etc. I think the only real repercussion is a slap on the wrist by the ethics committee (who all are likely taking advantage of it as well).

The other thing they do is get information and favorable terms on property that they purchase prior to the off-ramp being built and they end up with a Walmart 100 year lease on their property.
Harry Reid did this but I don't know if there's a Wal mart on the property.

Basketball players are even now referred to as "Cagers" because Basketball was played in cages up until the 1920s. It started in the pros. Early Basketball was a pretty violent sport. They used to wrestle for the ball and there was no such thing as a personal foul, or out of bounds.

You could, arguably, say that basketball goes back to the time of the Aztecs. They called it Ullamaliztli. They had two stone hoops mounted to a coliseum wall at opposite ends. And, they would try to throw a rubber ball through them. The hoop was vertical instead of horizontal.
Bonus: Losing team got their heads lopped off....tastefully.
