I remember the Presidential Physical Fitness Test. I think I got the patch, and maybe a certificate.
What I also remember, was it was an early indication that I couldn’t run for $&it. I thought I could. I could run like the wind! Except, we would have races with all the other kids in school. Even my secret “Turbo Mode” was wholly ineffective. I got smoked. Maybe, just maybe, I wasn’t all that, and a bag of chips. In Basic Training we took the first of many PT tests. On the 2 mile run, held on a 1/4 mile track iirc, I got lapped. LOL. By then I had no illusions about running. I got better, and eventually turned in respectable times. Or at least acceptable. Oddly I only recently heard about Hereditary Fructose Intolerance, but it is in fact a thing in genetics. Specifically Scythian genetics:

I completely agree here.
But it just isn't the Dems. For decades all I heard was we need to open ANWR. All sorts of politicians campaigned on it. Then Trump came in, and... opened it. deafening silence. The only people saying anything were the Dems, screaming like I'd stolen their fruit loops. This is how Trump wins/pisses people off. He just does what he says he's going to do. He makes it look...easy. That makes politicians on both sides of aisle look like idiots. You mean the president could have just...done it? The whole time? I think the Ds and Rs agree that certain problems will never be solved, because what else can they all run for/against? Posted by: El Mariachi - Attorney at Law at August 01, 2025 05:47 PM (D1vbu) 28
What I've already read about the fructose corn syrup is it does not satiate the way the older sugar sweetened sodas do. So you end up drinking that 32 oz soda instead of being filled up from a 10 oz bottle (the 10 oz glass bottles were before my time). I dunno if that is true or people just get conditioned to want a larger sweet drink.
I switched to water and mostly unsweetened tea, or herbal tea years ago. Perhaps that helped me gain less, but I didn't get skinny cuz of the switch. I did see improvement with going to the intermittent fasting eating schedule. The reading about IF sounded good to me. Seems to make sense that having that window with no food so your body uses up insulin in the bloodstream and will burn fat helps break the cycle of craving sweets every few hours. Also for me it is a useful thing for telling myself I am not really that hungry and if my body is actually wanting more calories I will just eat more when the eating window opens again. People that have never battled the tendency to stress eat or to mindlessly eat something just because it tastes good don't get how hard it can be to break that cycle. We may see this - with a Donny Two Scoops in office
Imagine requiring those who cannot support themselves to meet generally accepted height and weight standards. You’re a Fattie? Well, step on this scale. The military feeds you - but they will make you lose the excess poundage. You want “free” health care? Get your happy ass on the track. Put the fork down. The Drill Sergeants teamed up one day in the mess hall, about 5 of them, kicked the door in and marched in that purposeful way, straight to one guy, who had stolen a donut. How they knew this, I don’t know. They smoked his ass for a 15 minutes outside. He was extremely overweight. He lost it all, they kept having to issue him new (smaller) uniforms. He was fit and trimmed in about 16 weeks however. And very proud. Posted by: Common Tater at August 01, 2025 05:51 PM (TgO2L) 40

73: heh, When I was younger and would jog I would get all discouraged by people who did not seem to be pushing themselves at all passing me and pulling quickly away. Around age 50 I started jogging for fitness and when I'd get left in the dust I would just think "go you, but I'm 50+ and out here at all so good for me". But then my knees started protesting and I gave up trying to jog.

Let's talk about GAINZZZ!
High fiber diet. That's it. High fiber diet. After the thing where you get butt scoped, it was determined that I needed a high fiber diet. I lost 10 pounds in a few weeks without even trying. I'm getting lazy now (and it was too hot to work out), but I got to within 2 pounds of my Army Basic Training weight without pushing myself at all. I kind of have to force myself to eat, because 25 grams of fiber is a lot of fiber. I'm figuring it out, though. Getting more efficient. I was dehydrated for a while, but then figured out that canned pears are fiber rich and help rehydrate. Coconut also helps. Keto has nothing on this. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. 58 They put HFCS in all sorts of stuff. Did you know it's in lunch meat? My local grocery store is small and they carry what people want. It's hard to get away from the junk. Cake mixes now have genetically altered ingredients. I can get ice cream and Hersey's syrup that uses normal ingredients.

To be honest I think most of this stuff is way overhyped, but again the other side has adopted the notion that if there is even a trivial chance something is dangerous it should be banned and yet here they're mad RFK is removing these ingredients Posted by: 18-1 at August 01, 2025 06:04 PM (T7ru6) 98

A new poll from Emerson College shows that Vice President JD Vance currently has a small lead over three Democrats who may run for president in 2028. While Vance is currently positioned as the Republican party's likely candidate for the next presidential election, former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., are all potential Democratic opposition. According to Emerson College's poll, which surveyed 1,400 registered U.S. voters between July 21 and 22, Vance has a slight edge over all three politicians, although it’s the closest race between Vance and Buttigieg. In a hypothetical 2028 presidential election, 44% of voters would support Vance, while 43% would support Buttigieg. In a similar hypothetical, 41% of voters would support Ocasio-Cortez, in comparison to 44% for Vance; in a Newsom-Vance matchup, 42% would cast their ballot for Newsom, and 45% would opt for Vance. The problem is that China has overwhelmed the system and there is no way to inspect millions of packages a day for illicit contents. They know this. Trump claimed it is a security emergency, which it is even though it is not acute and instead has been building for years. But the Left is claiming that Trump is raising the prices for poor people who can no longer buy subsidized crap from China. It wasn't just Bill Clinton, the day after Bush signed that bill, they decried Bush's "intentional dishonesty" from the same floor and news shows. When I turned 29 for the 11th time, my metabolism slowed down quite a bit. Or I should say, that’s when I noticed that my metabolism had slowed down the first time I turned 29. I just realized I couldn’t keep blaming the broken scale and wondering how all my clothes had shrunk. Easiest thing I did in my diet was stop drinking my calories. I went from one coke a day to one a week to one a month to sharing one per month to…I barely ever have a soda anymore. It never felt like it filled me up so it was the true definition of empty calories. I’ve since turned 29 another 15 times so I’ve had to keep making cut backs. But the drinking calories were the low hanging fruit. Corn syrup or sugar, didn’t matter, just can’t afford to drink calories.

Poison kills in seconds to hours not 50 fucking years.
Just stop doing that. k thnks Posted by: eleven at August 01, 2025 06:05 PM (fV+MH) --- You know there are mystery stories about a woman killing her husband or somebody over years with microdoses of poison, don't you? Posted by: Axeman at August 01, 2025 06:11 PM (krQz2) That makes no sense though, if a man is married (to a woman) for any number of years, she's already killing him slowly. She need not feed him anything that will show up on a toxicology test. Unless they can measure nagging. Posted by: BurtTC at August 01, 2025 06:18 PM (dGCAG) 170
Ace - this was a horizontal rope, hand over hand, if that makes sense. Not tough really. Maybe 50 yards, over a sand pit. It WAS pretty high off the ground. Tubby couldn’t go any farther, and he couldn’t back up either. So he hung on until he couldn’t. Gravity did the rest.
Senior Drill Sergeant deftly stepped aside, so as not to get killed. It did seem a bit cruel at the time, but ole Tubby did turn into a pretty good troop. Posted by: Common Tater at August 01, 2025 06:18 PM (wzsAY) Posted by: Bulg at August 01, 2025 06:18 PM (77rzZ) 172
>>I think President Trump should appoint a drink tester for Puerto Rico, to make sure the drinks down there are made correctly.
>>Who would make a better candidate: Nancy Pelosi or AOC? Me. My old dive shop in PR was located in a big resort hotel and every Wedneday afternoon one of the bartenders would do a pina colada making demonstration. For everyone in the hotel. He made it by the gallon. And every Wednesday afternoon we would close the shop early, fill up jugs of the stuff and go sit behind our cabana and watch pretty girls in bikinis. I'm ready to go back on duty. Posted by: JackStraw at August 01, 2025 06:18 PM (viF8m) 173

Another Trump Gainz. The WH rose garden plaza is finally done! The WH will work on the new ballroom next, so lefties have something else to shriek about. Upset we are funding a new ballroom vs Elmo.
Vid of the old rose garden vs the new changes. Apparently the old one was a mess underneath and needed to be redone anyway to improve drainage. But let's blame Trump and Melania! https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/24/politics/ video/white-house-rose-garden-paved-over-trump-vrtc New drain covers, which the left will be disappointed are American flags and not swastikas: https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1951376609954406590 Posted by: LizLem at August 01, 2025 06:21 PM (gWBY1) 178

Brand Names? Not really, because my point is, they change all the time. Check the label ingredients is all hou can do. Cheap, fake ersatz ice cream “burns” in the mouth.
I’ve heard Blue Bell (a Texas firm) is really good. Never saw it in Iowa. We had a brand called Blue Bunny. Someone was gushing about how good Blue Bunny ice cream was. I didn’t say anything, because I knew it was crap. Corn syrup + Chemistry set. She had mixed up the names. Posted by: Common Tater at August 01, 2025 06:23 PM (wzsAY) 181

On personal Gainz, I'm intermittent fasting again and love it. And reduced carbs until I went on vacation, need to get back on the low carb groove.
I also figured out how to make my fave dirty soda drink sugar free at home, instead of paying a ridiculous amount at the drive-up shacks for a high sugar version. Making my own sugar free syrups at home! It's the simple pleasures in life. But I love it. Posted by: LizLem at August 01, 2025 06:24 PM (gWBY1) 184
I believe that HFCS is pretty bad for you after the data I have seen and I really never cared that much.
But now that I am thinking finally of starting to get some GAINZZ, I've been looking harder into this stuff. Man the internet proposed information on diet and GAINZZ is so colossally huge. It can get pretty confusing. So I'm gonna start with walking an extra 30 minutes a day until I decide on a fitness plan. I am honestly skeptical that food dyes are problematic and damaging to anyone, but I am also fine with getting rid of them as well. What bothers me is the massive overuse of soy, seed oils, and sugar in everything. The preservatives concern me as well but I don't see a way around that for now.

One begins to suspect that they believe exactly none of the things they claim to believe, and that what they really believe in is Marxism, and all of their relentless attacks on normal society aren't about the issues they claim they're arguing about but only about undermining and hollowing out normal society so that the Great Communist Revolution can come and sweep it all away.
----------- And Marxism's sole soulless concern & purpose is the seizure, acquisition, accumulation, exercise, and abuse of raw negative political power. Posted by: ShainS -- On Power (Positive vs. Negative) at August 01, 2025 06:33 PM (DAz5E) 193

Part of the problem with food additives is that Europe got rid of GRAS (Generally recognized as safe). They did this mostly as part of their "fortress Europe" plan to exclude US products by creating a special market in EU that was too expensive for US to tailor its products for.
But this got lots of money for researchers to find problems with anything that was GRAS. Pay researchers to find problems, and they will. I doubt most of those problems exist. Posted by: bob (moron incognitus) at August 01, 2025 06:34 PM (dm8l3) 195
