Welcome to the MLB trade deadline ONT. In case you missed it, earlier there were some pretty intense trade discussions between the Blue Jays and the Cardinals.

Well, That's Horrifying

Baby girl grows ‘micropenis’ after lying on her dad’s chest

A baby girl in Sweden reportedly sprouted a “micropenis” after lying on her father’s bare chest — turning a tender bonding moment into a bizarre biological blunder.
And she’s not the only one. A Swedish doctor is sounding the alarm, warning she’s seen at least half a dozen similar cases in children.
Here’s what you need to know to make sure your child isn’t next.
Often referred to as “kangaroo care,” skin-to-skin contact is a common practice used to strengthen the bond between newborns and parents while supporting healthy early development.
But in this case, that sweet ritual took a strange turn.
After her birth, the Swedish baby girl was repeatedly placed on her father’s bare chest — the same area where he had applied testosterone gel.

The baby's skin absorbed the hormone, and her genitals began to change. Yikes!

No Nice Things

The Primary Reason People in Blue States Can't Have Nice Things

The late, great conservative humorist P.J. O'Rourke said of socialism, "To grasp the true meaning of socialism, imagine a world where everything is designed by the post office, even the sleaze."

P.J. hated socialism because no one was in charge of anything. The "government" rarely "governed" anything except that which could be manipulated into benefitting the governing elite. The rest was farmed out to the "non-profit/industrial complex," which doesn't care about maintaining what it's managing because there's no incentive to do so.
Think about Zohran Mamnani's "government-run grocery stores." Chicago "studied" the matter, paying a non-profit group that paid a for-profit consultant company, which determined it wouldn't work.
The only "city-run" grocery store in the country is in Kansas City. The problem is that it's not run by the city. It's run by a for-profit subsidiary that needs gobs of cash from the city to stay open.

Hint: It's the lack of accountability.

News From The World Of Archaeology

A New Statue Suddenly Appeared on Easter Island.

Just when experts thought they knew every moai on Rapa Nui, otherwise known as Easter Island, a dried-up lakebed kept them on their toes. These statues—largely made of a stone formed from volcanic ash and dust called tuff—pepper the island, with more than 1,000 already found and logged.
Finding a new one came as a surprise. And a bit of a mystery.
“We think we know all the moai, but then a new one turns up, a new discovery, and in this case, in the lake, at the statue quarry,” Terry Hunt, professor of archeology at the University of Arizona, told Good Morning America. “There have been no moai found in the dry bed or in what was previously a lake, so this is a first.”

Huh. I would have thought they'd have found them all by now.

The Shopping Cart Question

Why Don't People Return Their Shopping Carts?

While some supermarkets are better than others, it's probably not unusual to find a few stray shopping carts littering the parking lot to the dismay of shoppers who may think that a parking spot is open, only to find that it's actually being used by a shopping cart. It seems like a basic courtesy to others: you get a cart at the supermarket, you use it to get your groceries and bring them to your vehicle, and then you return it for others to use. And yet, it's not uncommon for many people to ignore the cart receptacle entirely and leave their carts next to their cars or parked haphazardly on medians. During peak hours, it can mean bedlam. Where does this disregard come from?
Some supermarkets have tried to make this relatively easy: they have cart receptacles throughout the parking lot, a cart attendant to bring the carts back to the store, and some may even rely on a cart "rental" system where you pay for the cart and are reimbursed when it's returned.

So, where do you fall? I always take my buggy to the buggy corral.

The Dumbest Thing You Will Read All Week

11 Habits That Are Normal In Working-Class Homes But Confuse Wealthy People

While the middle class itself may be shrinking, as a study from the Pew Research Center suggests, the habits, behaviors, and mentalities of adults who grew up in middle-class households are still prevalent. From the way they manage money to how they interact with others and even fill their free time, there are a number of habits that are normal in working-class homes but confuse wealthy people.
While the hobbies, habits,  and routines of the middle class may not be intrinsically associated with money, they are founded on something that’s impossible to untie from a person’s financial wellbeing: choice. When you have money, you have the choice to spend your free time and energy how you want, but in many cases, middle-class people must make compromises and develop their routines around non-negotiables.

At least, Jeeves told me it was dumb when he read it for me.

Yeah, cooling off this weekend and into the next week is gonna be welcome. GSP set the record for most consecutive 90F+ days, breaking 38 days set in '93. It's at 41 now, and likely will hit 90F again tomorrow.

Note this is consecutive days. I don't think we'll come anywhere close to the record total number of 90F days in a calendar year this year.

Locally, I didn't get that many consecutive days, because on the 10th, it was a bit cooler and didn't get but to 88F.

17 Shopping carts go in the corral. Most stores have plenty. But, once in a while, if one is not handy, I at least make sure it's not in a parking spot.

I've actually bumped carts out of my parking spot (I have a truck). But then I move the cart to a safe spot. But, it's one of the innumerable things that annoy me about the people I have to deal with on a daily basis.

____________________________

I'm still physically in decent shape, and part of that is parking purposefully deep in the lot, and walking my cart all the way back to the store.

I'm, also, a crude, deliberate jackass, so if I see someone leaving a cart in the lot without a care in the world, I'll get their attention, point at the cart, and shrug with an eyeroll. They usually leave anyway, but now they have to think about that tall goof at the grocery store and hope they don't run into him again on their next trip.

I don't mind walking a distance to the store, but I tend to feel like I am DONE by the time I get out of there and put the stuff in the car. I will put the cart away no matter what, but it feels like a chore vs a practically no cost courtesy if I have to walk it very far to where it belongs after shopping. I will grab a stray cart to shop with if some sleaze left one in a parking spot, or sometimes push a couple strays into the corral as I head to the store.

After I park out in the boonies and as I walk to the store entrance, I'll take one, maybe two stray carts with me. When I'm through loading the vehicle, I'll take the cart I used, plus maybe another along the path with me to the store's entrance so other customers can use them.

Its a simple way to get steps in by returning the cart, and taking two is no big deal.

160 When I was a kid we lived in a house on a sharp curve on a main road in the neighborhood where a lot of people would use it to get from one highway to another highway in town.

So we’d get a lot of people who didn’t really care how fast they went through the neighborhood, or around that curve.

A few wrecks happened on the street but mostly it was people over correcting on the curve after going in too fast and landing in our yard.

Sometimes they hit our mailbox first before going in the yard.

So my dad and brother come up with a plan to make the entire mailbox out of quarter-inch wall square tubular steel and plant that sucker about four feet into the ground with concrete to fill the hole. The entire thing probably weighed 500 lbs.

A drunk lady drove into it one Saturday morning, then into the yard.

Knocked the mailbox over but it just had some paint scuffing. Her car was bashed in like the dude’s in the bollard video above.

She told me Dad, “You’re mailbox messed up my car, you need to pay for the damage!”

“Are you out of your mind, lady? You drove into it not me.”

That mailbox also had the honor of ringing many an idiot’s bell who played mailbox baseball with it.

Heh. Taking them off the store premises is technically theft, but it never gets prosecuted. An idea occurs to me. Task some cops to patrol roads in areas where lots of carts go walkabout, and have them apprehend the culprits, and offer them a deal: "you are in possession of stolen property, and we could throw your ass in jail. You don't want to go to jail, do you? Well, right here, we have a Bill of Sale signed by the manager of that store, for one shopping cart, $150. 213 OK, I found an article done by a radio station that actually investigated why people don't return their carts or use the corral. Of the 20 or so excuses, these two might have some merit.

______________________________________________
1. The person has a child whom they do not want to leave unattended.

2. The person has a disability.

___________________

The first one, I can personally support in today's world. Additionally, the just out of the toddler stage doesn't include car seats. And kids like to push buttons...like door locks. So OK, I can let this one slide.

The second one...disability. There are circumstances where this is valid, because the handicapped spots rarely have a cart corral anywhere nearby. They're usually in towards the middle of the row. So, I'd let this slide too...provided you have a valid disability.

Good point.

One just never knows which new added straw will break society's back. For example, I really think the trannies in women's sports/spaces was a big sign everybody seemed to recognize, now looking like it's stopped. But for Trump, that could have been the last straw for a sane society.

Same with the illegals. Harris wins, it's all over, we're overrun and bankrupt.

291 About the shopping carts; the main problem I've seen is people walk to the store, get groceries, and then walk the cart back home. So cities started mandating that grocery stores have carts with the perimeter switches that lock up if they leave the parking lot. But the system is glitchy and a lot of the carts get stuck just within the store.

As a kid in the '70s, I remember how the grocery stores did it then. The shopping carts were in store only. They had a crew of bag boys (which included the manager when business was heavy) who had their own hand truck-like affairs. They bagged up your groceries in big bown paper bags, and loaded them up on those hand truck like things. It also a fold down thingy with little wheels in case the customer had something big.

And they took that out to your car and loaded it in the trunk for you.

As I've said, Pallywood is winning this propaganda war, hands down. I mean, who starts a war by massacring civilians in an invasion op then a year or two later get rewarded with an independent state?

Only thanks to Pallywood. And its Western media mouthpieces.

I also think people really aren't used to seeing the results of actual urban war and it shocks them. It's bloody and brutal, moreso when the enemy uses its own as shields, especially the kids, which they/our media then capitalize upon for eyeballs/propaganda. It's all about making the West feel bad for the Paleos' suffering, irrespective of how we got here. And it's working.

347 >>An AG may not command an SC to redact 30 paragraphs from a report.

That's just not true. It didn't happen that long ago so you probably remember the left lost their shit when Barr redacted parts of Mueller's report. They went on tirades about it for weeks and of course the media amplified it constantly so it was hard to miss. He was a Special Counsel just like Durham, no more powers and no less. It's the exact same rule even if the reasoning was different. The DOJ gets the final say as to what is released.

They both worked for the DOJ. That's who hired them.

And even if that wasn't true it's a bit ironic to argue that the Deputy AG can't do stuff when we are talking about an entire administration starting with President Obama who couldn't do stuff but he did it anyway. If that wasn't the case we wouldn't be talking about all of this right now.

A SC declined to commit a report to Congress, under pressure from a powerful woman who he has no legal requirement to answer to.

But he only did it because a previous corrupt SC pressured a previous corrupt AG - both of whom were no longer employed by DoJ and had no authority over him, either.

But it's not because he's corrupt.

Weather has been fine here for several days. Got some more mowing done; the grass has been growing like weeds. Possibly because it is mostly weeds.

Had a funny thing happen today. I had a big metal table outside, that I had made by welding banquet table legs onto some panels of commercial steel shelving. It was covered in various car parts, waiting to be put away. Well, I ran into it today, with the golf cart. And it collapsed so gracefully, like a parallelogram, that most of the stuff on it just stayed there. Only a few things on the far edge fell onto the ground. I picked up everything, put it in cartons, upended the table, and got the bent tubes back in their sockets. But I am going to weld the hinged legs up solid, and make it a non-folding table evermore.

395 I'm old enuf that unless it's a quick in and out - I need to use the electric carts. I'm actually happy when there's a regular cart at hand when I park in the handicap spot. I'll use that to walk to the store (and where the electrics are charging up). So I don't feel all that guilty to leave a cart - situated so it doesn't block the parking spot - loose when I leave.

Yeah, and I remember Barr and 'Trust the Plan'... that worked out soooo well.

Barr, who went before Congress and testified they found no evidence of Election Fraud in the 2020 Election... but when his Minion who actually did the supposed investigation was asked... said ... uh... no... we did not investigate anything.

Hard to find evidence if you never look... or... as I think of it... the Sgt. Shultz defense.

398 Rich and middle class habits reminded me of an odd truth..it's usual for wealthy people ( and reasonable ones, not necessarily the Python upper class twits) to not have any clue that most people don't have their resources and think they are being helpful by suggesting some expensive solution when a problem is mentioned. Do they think everyone gets their salary? Why would they, I assume management knows your exact pay more than you know theirs...

Worst land whale in a scooter thing I saw was a few years ago. This Lizzo class woman was in one of those. Her girth was such the wads of lard were pressed up against basket. This included ginormous larded boobs sort of spilling over the top of the basket.

She had a full basket and the stuff was overflowing into the cleavage of those lard bags.

Yeah, I put solar and a battery on my house here in central Calif three years ago... note... nothing has really changed EXCEPT putting a supposedly more energy efficient HVAC unit on the house....

First year true up bill? $400...
Second Year? just over $1000...

Just paid for last year... heat did go out and we had to use space heaters for a month... but... $3400 for the year... yeah... somehow... almost $300 a month when I HAVE solar and a 10 Kw Battery.

Of course, every time you turn around, the Calif Board is changing the rate plan...

I read a good article on this a while back. Back in the Before Time, we had leaders, govt and industry who looked to the future. California was an example. They had leaders who realized, hey we're going to grow big time, and we're gonna need power, water, this and that. They planned for that decades ahead. And now, we live with the fruits of that, and its taken for granted.

Germany was another example. Back in the '70s they forecast what their power needs would be well into the future, up to about now. They were going to build nuclear plants to handle it.

Then the anti-nuke and green shit came along, and all that was scrapped and they're in the mess they are now.

To a large degree, we're just coasting on what the visionaries of the past built. We haven't been continuing that forward building, and all that stuff is now coming to the end of its useful life.

459 Data centers for practical reasons should be located near a source of cheap energy.

There are places where it costs more to transport natural gas than it is worth. Supply bottlenecks and a excess of gas because of the rate of oil production.

Maybe locate those data centers in Canada where it's also easy to run efficient refrigeration cycles due to the climate.

You would need to build out the fiber optic ring out from Chicago to Seattle or put in a major trunk line from one of the northern states.

Essentially your converting uneconomical natural gas that is burnt (releasing it's carbon!!!) to billable tera bits per second data rates.

Can't remember exactly what we paid.. there was a daily charge, plus drop off/pick up that we paid to the driver. Another bill came later, for actual yardage. Think total was around $300?

470 parts, waiting to be put away. Well, I ran into it today, with the golf cart. And it collapsed so gracefully, like a parallelogram, that most of the stuff on it just stayed there.

Haha AOP is like the Chuck Norris of mechanics, even his carts have the wisdom to collapse gracefully.

471 We hired two 10-yard dumpsters just to throw out the crap the previous owner left on this property. Honestly, who leaves that kind of mess behind? I have cursed his existence more than once.

His ex has the property behind us. She felt the same way about him. Go figure.

472 We have amazing sunshowers this evening, with a huge double rainbow over our birch trees. I don't think I've ever seen one this bright. Purple showing on both arcs. God is good.

Nice, we had a beautiful day here too sunny with clouds but no rain.

Posted by: AmericanKestrel at August 01, 2025 02:29 AM (PcTds)

473 It's breezy here now, and finally cooled enough that I can turn off the a/c and open windows. Yay!

Probably better get my a$$ to bed, also.

G'night, horde!

477 Kestrel, it is good to see you. I still need to paint two walls, it is a very, very pale yellow.

tcn, that rainbow sounds beautiful.

Good night JQ and Bers, I will have no trouble filling a big dumpster here, this place will take a long time to clean out, lots and lots of my kids stuff. I am not selling yet, but it is inevitable down the road.

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at August 01, 2025 02:34 AM (0nHVk)

478 Don't you feel guilty throwing those things away. Mementos, other little things you never know when you'll need them.

Not usually. I come from a family of near hoarders. Id rather have empty space and I still feel I have too much stuff.

Hey man do we own stuff or does stuff own us? Duuude.

485 RFK, Jr. is living his dream - telling people what they should eat. It's a weird dream. I can't understand it. But it's his dream, and I suppose we're just living in it.

But I have a dream, too. To be AG.

I have a dream that my three little children will live in a country where their political class's corruption will be judged mercilessly.

I have a dream that they can live in a great nation that is more just than it is great.

I have a dream that my children will walk in fear of sin, because they know its doleful wages.

493 Found out from my cardiologist Tuesday that I have some fluid buildup around the heart (not good). I was also told I'm slightly dehydrated (also not good).

494 Howdy all, is anyone still awake? Still at Dad's trying to sort things out after his death May 29. Guess I'm still wound up, tho tired after working here today.

Cool find was my grt grandfather's engraved cane. He was the the last of my forebearers to immigrate to the US. As the others before him he came here legally (from Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1870 aged 1.

I truly don't understand why folks whose first act coming here is a crime by entering illegally should be entitled to anything other than a boot in the ass to get out.

Sorry to hear about your complications Rick. That can be a real PITA to figure out. Reminds of when we had tussles w/ the dietary folks over Mom's prescribed heart healthy diet which conflicted w/ her kidney diet. They conflicted and it was tough.

Best wishes to you sir, hope it all works out soon.
