That Golden above with his mommy's pregnancy...totally how our son's has been. Well, the one who is in heaven.
The girl Golden they have now is a bit looney, as she came to live with a 9mo old and toddler. The result is crazy when we visit, but she may be ok without us (she bonded with me as a puppy, she thinks). She'll be put to the test soon as the 3rd is en route. My DIL took a photo of their Bailey Boy next to her sleeping 3mo old son. She was in the shower. His look was saying, "Well YOU were not watching him, so I am!" He looked po'd at her. I want to get back to 'Convict Conditioning' once I'm fully done taking care of all if the house stuff - goal August 15th. I was making great gains and still have muscle.
Thanks to 6 months of crazy level stress, I'm about 3 or 4 pounds from my goal weight. I sent one of my Mother's dearest friends 2 large boxes today. They were in the convent together and probably knew each other for 60 years. She wanted something to remember Mom by so I sent her purse, sunglasses, CD's and most of all my Mother's address books, all of her greeting cards, stickers, and photocopied jokes and stories Mom would include in her cards. I'm sure she'll love all that. I'm in Canada, she's in Michigan, we're both just out of gunshot range of Detroit, but postage was still $80. Which was fine. A buck something for each year of friendship. No biggie. Posted by: Dr. Claw at July 29, 2025 07:55 PM (3wi/L) I understand ... A couple of things: 1) Learn to brace correctly, and wear a belt. 2) Buildup tension in your Hammies by extending your ass back as far as you can, before starting the pull. 3) That move will put your lower back into extension properly. 4) Pull the slack out of the bar before you try to break the bar from the floor. You might video your lift from the side on so that you can see if you really are losing tightness. What you "feel" can be way different than what is actually happening. But Bracing and a Belt is where I'd start if you're concerned. Posted by: browndog Hip Crease below the Top of the Knee at July 29, 2025 08:01 PM (TTAGa) 114

Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at July 29, 2025 07 My yard is really bumpy too. And it's a corner lot, pretty large with tons of trees and statues. Idid have someone roll it with a smaller roller a few years ago. It was alright. The biggest difference was when the old mower died. I wanted a cheap mower that would have make a blade spin after pulling the cord. I didn't need or want anything else. The mower is about 25lbs. It's so much easier to mow the yard than with the heavier mower. I love that thing. Posted by: Stateless - HAPPY NOT HOMELESS! - New Life Creation 15.5 % at July 29, 2025 08:08 PM (jvJvP) 131

186 Stateless - I've been doing the Convict Conditioning program for about three months. I got waaaayyyy out of shape, and having surgery didn't help, but once I was off light-duty I started SLOWLY working out again. Consistency is the key, as they say, and I've been making slow, steady progress.
Posted by: PabloD at July 29, 2025 08:31 PM (eU7D4 Good for you! Keep at it. I really can't wait to get back to it. I have all three books. Book 2 was interesting because he wrote more about prison, working out on prison food and what it was like in the yard. He did change my thinking about protein and the remaining Whey protein I have left. In the prison yard, the barbells were welded so they couldn't be used as weapons. So if you benched 180lbs or whatever it was, your next barbell set was 45 or 90 pounds heavier. No incremental increases. And he talked a lot about the people on steroids in prison which was interesting too. Posted by: Stateless - HAPPY NOT HOMELESS! - New Life Creation 15.5 % at July 29, 2025 08:46 PM (jvJvP) 223
July is almost over. I have a "classic pinup" calendar on my living room wall, on which I write the names of bills that have to be paid, appointments, etc. Almost every day this month has had one or more items written into it, from "Pay Rent" and "Pay Credit Card One," to my surgery prep, to the surgery itself and the follow-up yesterday. Plus there were things (like having to buy a new battery for the car) that I *didn't* write down in advance, not knowing those were coming.

When I used to take the Metro from Northern Virginia into D.C., there was an escalator in the Vienna station that went out of service while a crew disassembled it for routine maintenance. I bought a lot in a subdivision and had a house built in the time it took for those guys to get that escalator back up and running (approximately five months). So, was this due to the fact that Metro had an exclusive contract with one maintenance company that hired union employees, or are escalators more complicated than nuclear power plants?

I know there's a dispute as to whether "Convict Conditioning" is fiction, with regards to the prison stories, but the progressions mostly make sense and provide a good road map for improvement. Interestingly enough, I don't recall Wade ever talking about burpees when burpees are a prison staple. I too have all three books. I doubt I'll ever be doing flags or planches, but at least I can hopefully work up to doing a decent set of pull-ups. I also refer to Al Kavadlo's materials when needed.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 29, 2025 09:09 PM Car batteries have been decreasing in quality for years. A 5-year warranty wasn't hard to get. Now 2 or 3 seems the norm. I replaced one in Feb., and it just died 2-yr warranty. Fortunately the refunded it, and I got a 3-yr from Costco for less than half price (they were out when I needed it in Feb.). AGMs are probably a better battery, but most cars regulate the voltage to less than the 14.4 they really need to charge. Another issue is the 'smart' alternators a number of cars come with these days, that adjust their output voltage to the draw, leading to (wait for it) chronically undercharged batteries, which is a battery killer. One trick there is always drive with your parking lights on, which will generally make the 'smart' alternator put out enough to charge the battery. Pipes are a *want*, not a need.) Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 29, 2025 09:25 PM (omVj0) 287

AOP, I got my climate control panel replaced. I got the trim removal tools and I still couldn't figure out how to pop it out, so I went to my regular mechanic, and he put it in for $100.
The harness and connector were charred, so he was reluctant to put my replacement panel in, but I didn't expect the repair to be warranted, and the damage didn't look that bad to me, electrically speaking, so I said put it in. So far it's been working fine! Lucky I got the right part for it. Posted by: Lithiated gp For Pep at July 29, 2025 09:29 PM (42Mqt) 290

Anyway, we have classic movie night at our local library tomorrow evening: the 1980s musical version of Little Shop of Horrors. I warned Linda that it's a musical comedy, not a genre she cares much about; she thought the movie was a B-grade horror film like Teenage Caveman or Attack of the Killer Shrews. Uh, no.

OK, that's pretty cool. I'd be curious to know how durable they are and the operating expense (TCO), but that's a damn fine machine. See Minsky Last I knew they were made in Austria for work in mountainous areas. Several decades ago I ran one on a cliff-side by the railroad along the Feather River out of Pulga, California. We were building a dam on the rock cliff-face to contain a creek. The one I was running only had wheels on two of the legs. The other two arms/legs were used to pull it along with the backhoe bucket. It took a little coordination to operate. They will climb. Posted by: waepnedmann at July 29, 2025 10:20 PM (7wmS3) 345
On exercise - during a local in depth interview around the time of the first Moon missions, Apollo astronaut Neil Armstrong was asked about the training they were undergoing, and physical exercise.
In an apparently unguarded moment the normally thoughtful and diplomatic aviator said “I believe we only have a finite number of heartbeats, I’ll be damned if I’m going to waste mine running around the block.” This caused quite a row with the astronaut bigwigs, and soon ole Neil had put out a statement “clarifying” his earlier comments, extolling the virtues of regular physical training, etc. Posted by: Common Tater at July 29, 2025 11:20 PM (sDaxV) Processing 0.06, elapsed 0.0619 seconds. |
