Otters are amusing and all, but Giant River Otters are some of the scariest, most dangerous animals on the planet. They're endangered (maybe 1000 to 5000 left), and are somewhat pack animals. If you are cornered by a bunch of them down in South America, you're done. It's that simple. You will be a swirl of ripped clothes and red mist within minutes. They're, also, psychotic in that they will tear you apart for the entertainment factor, and not necessarily food.

And Detroit was 'Murder City - USA' at the time. I'm sure that shaped attitudes towards guns.
My Mother was born and raised there. The house later became a drug house and was eventually razed. Everything Democrats touch turns to shit... - Stateless I did a semester at the University of Detroit (now University of Detroit/Mercy, I believe) in 1973. Coleman Young hadn't been elected yet, as I recall, and although the city had already started its economic and social decline (I think it was the murder capital that year, too), it wasn't as bad as it would eventually become. I liked my brief time there. Saw Mickey Lolich pitch a 2-1 victory over Milwaukee at Tiger Stadium, and went to a few U of D Titan basketball games (the team was coached by Dick Vitale at the time). There was a great hot dog place within walking distance - can't remember the name, something with a Greek name - and I really enjoyed the hamburgers at the White Tower restaurant (they had a slight peppery taste). My French-Canadian girlfriend informed me she had a dream, that I was unfaithful and cheated on her. Being of a somewhat straightforward, logical kind of guy, I sincerely pointed out I would never do such a thing.
I assumed that this was the end of the matter. After all, it was a dream, and not based upon any sort of reality. This was my first experience with the concept, or a female’s Prerogative to visit or re-visit any issue at any time for any reason. LOL. I’d no idea. So maybe a week later, out of the blue, I discover She’s Still Mad About That, and I thought it was safely forgotten in the mists of Time. No. That’s Not How This Works. It was EMP as we think about it, but the mess of charged particles released and swirled around by the earth's magnetic field. That also took out a Brit comm satellite. otherwise, how is marrying a guy that has a shrink not stupid?
Posted by: He didn’t have a shrink when we married, silly. He did it so he could tell a judge how hard he tried to stay in the marriage. Apparently I was just too much of a bitch. Oh well. Posted by: nurse ratched at July 24, 2025 09:42 PM (mT+6a) A marriage can have different breaking points. Yours is the most common. My ex was of Hispanc background, Central America and Argentina. She spoke 5 languages. She looked very Hispanic but her English could slip back to Brooklynese. After 3 years of dating and two years of marriage the ex made the declaration I 'looked too American' to travel overseas with her. I immediately asked, 'What the hell is wrong with looking too Amercan? I am an American and proud of it!' The beginning of the end. I've had three female bosses over my lifetime.
The first one..... existed. The second had enough chips on her shoulders to open a casino. The third was awesome. Posted by: mikeski at July 24, 2025 09:56 PM (DgGvY) 310

My best bosses have been women.
Posted by: Bulg at July 24, 2025 09:51 PM (77rzZ) Persoanl experience: mixed bag. Female NCO when I was in Germany was horrid. Kept me and my buddy from being promoted to E-4. Why? She hated white people. Funny thing, my buddy was half Korean. New NCO replaced her, and got us promoted quickly, and also got us the rewards that were left on her desk. I got over it, but she was a hateful bitch, and I have no idea why she hated us so much. yeah, men can be assholes too. But, dang, she dashed any deisre to reenlist. I just wanted to get the fuck out. Posted by: Mike, Good for a few things, at least at July 24, 2025 09:58 PM (0aYVJ) 316

The worst work relationship I ever had (not a boss, though) was with a guy. Borderline autisti who couldn’t manage shit and obviously disliked me most of the time.

BREAKING - President Trump’s new executive order will essentially override the laws that closed the mental asylums in the 1960s, allowing states to once again involuntarily re‑institutionalize people deemed a danger to themselves or others.
We're gonna need a bigger asylum. Posted by: davidt at July 24, 2025 09:48 PM (i0F8b) The problem with this, not unlike the Red Flag laws, is it gives power to people who shouldn't necessarily have it. Everyone around here is always ragging on pee sigh chiatrists. Well, now they can lock you up. That's not always going to be a good idea. Posted by: BurtTC at July 24, 2025 10:06 PM (MrZFe) 326

If a person is also homeless and drug addicted, I think the shrink has every responsibility to involuntarily commit that person. Posted by: nurse ratched at July 24, 2025 10:09 PM (mT+6a) 327
*not-lol* Burt; I remember a shrinker who was also a lawyer back a half-century ago, he was like a one-man-commitment show.
no. one. effed around with that guy, not nobody not nohow. Posted by: sock_rat_eez at July 24, 2025 10:10 PM (dKEEs) 328
