Shoebills give me the creeps. You can't tell from that video, but those bastards can get up to more than 5 feet in size. Speaking of Rubins, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory is now online and going to town. Down at a high peak in Chile, they've released some of the first images: https://tinyurl.com/29yh8t8n Among other things, one of its missions will be finding more earth crossing asteroids, potential SMODs out there. It will also likely be able to find any suspected "Planet X" lurking way out there, but don't hold your breath, it will take a few years. The Rubin Obs. has what is currently the biggest digital camera ever constructed. The diameter of the lens is about 5'. And guess what, all the date runs through the Deep State and the spooks before released. It is piped through 100 Gbit/s encrypted link to some facility in California. The problem is this thing would easily expose the US spy satellite orbital parameters. So, they process it to remove all traces of any such spy satellites (and other stuff we don't know about) before public release. How is it that wolves haven't adapted to changing conditions (urbanization, loss of original habitat, etc.) as well as coyotes? Is it because they're more of a pack animal, which, I imagine, provides greater exposure to hunters, or is it more selective dietary requirements (e.g., they require larger prey), or something else entirely?

Kid's 1990 chevy 1/2 t9n pickup will be fine with a new radiator, bumper, headlight, and grill. Dash cam for the win. Shows my green light, inside cam shows ,e checking the intersection to be clear, i proceed...then wham. My poor nuclear blue baby. We'll see if the shop totals it or repairs it later this week. At least i wasn't on my motorcycle. I probably would have gunned it across given when I saw the kid. I thought that MEX speak Spanish furthest from Castilian Spanish. Weird..anyone know ??
Posted by: runner at July 07, 2025 08:46 PM (g47mK) New world Spanish is known for its conservatism in maintaining words and usages that are now obsolete in Spain proper. Innovations like the lisping ceceo are not found in the New World, and out of date terms are still maintained. On the other hand the New World has mostly lost the Vosotros tense, as it was a duplicate term for "you/you all" being maintained only in places where it seemed to have a use in determining class, Northern Colombia is one, where there was a large black free population, and Rio de Plata, where there is a large Indian population. It also tends to adopt Indian, Portuguese and other loanwords, for example Argentina has a large Italian population and Paraguay a large Guarani speaking population Mexico uses a lot of slang, has a lot of Indian inclusions, and treats almost everything as an obscenity as it is inappropriate. "Cogeme fuerte Chilango" does not mean hold me tight in Mexico city, unlike the rest of the world, for example. Posted by: Kindltot at July 07, 2025 09:46 PM (D7oie) 278

The Castilian accent makes everyone sound like Zorro the Gay Blade.

Another afternoon downpour today. Unusual how much precip we've had this Spring and Summer. All the rivers and ponds and ditches are full, and there's big puddles out where the yard doesn't drain well.
Then, just now as the sky began to clear, we were rewarded with a magnificent rainbow, a great arc stretching for miles from one end to the other. Been a long time since we got a rainbow, and this was a good one. Revivifying. Posted by: mindful webworker - a miracle in the sky at July 07, 2025 09:53 PM (OZEHh) 295
One could have said the same of Warren Beatty, back when there was a little boomlet of interest in having him run for political office. However, after he appeared on one of the Sunday morning talk shows, it was obvious that he makes AOC look like Einstein, and he was almost unable to formulate sentences, much less concepts.

Bill Melugin @BillMelugin_ . 5h I just spoke to Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino @USBPChiefELC, who was the official on the phone with LA Mayor Karen Bass at MacArthur Park today. I asked him for his message to her, as she demands raids end? “I don’t work for Karen Bass. Better get used to us now, cause this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.” Jul 7, 2025 · 8:03 PM UTC Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at July 07, 2025 09:57 PM (57fs2) 297

Mexicans are infamous in the Spanish speaking world for their version of the language, which is definitely not Castilian! When I was in grad school, I had promised to accompany an old friend on a summer vacation touring Mexico. Before I left, I reviewed my grasp of the language with my office mate’s girlfriend, who was a grad student from Colombia. At our first lesson I began to read the material in my best Mexican accent. She stopped me, then said “Oh, I guess they do speak like that in Mexico!” I guess the Colombian accent is a little purer. I am given to understand that the Mexican accent is that way due to the influence of the Aztec language, Nahuatl, a tonal language. Thus all the ups and downs of the Mexican accent, in Spanish or English!
