Russia Will Win In Ukraine, And It Doesn't Matter At All

I am tired of hearing about Ukraine. I am tired of seeing Zelenskyy and his stupid track suits and smug assumptions that he is a global player. He looks as stupid as Hillary Clinton in her pants suits, and maybe just as arrogant! And I am sick of Putin being elevated into some vaunted position as a global leader when Russia is a regional, not a world power. And most of all I am tired of the histrionics emanating from the media and most European capitols that Ukraine is some bastion of Western Freedom, and we all must rally 'round their flag. What that actually means is that they want America to foot the bill in treasure and blood so that they can continue their lovely cradle-to-grave welfare state lives while spending almost nothing on defense.

Russia is bigger than Ukraine, has a larger army, has access to allies that will assist them, and will most probably win this war. And why should they stop? They are achieving whatever goals they have, and the West without the American military doing the heavy lifting won't, or can't (or both) help.

Ukraine has a power-mad midget dictator (when was the last election in Ukraine?) who wants the West to pay for his intransigence in the face of the current Russian belligerence. But Ukraine is not blameless in this war, and regardless of why it started, they had opportunities to end the war with a negotiated ceasefire, but chose to continue to burn through their men and the West's arms on some ridiculous hope that somehow they could turn the tide. They were wrong, and a lot of people are dead because of that decision.

Putin Tells Trump He Won't Give Up Goals In Ukraine, Kremlin Says

Putin told Trump that “Russia will achieve its goals” in Ukraine and “will not abandon” them, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, who spoke with reporters following the July 3 call. Russia is seeking to conquer Ukraine and bring the independent country back into its fold. [bold mine]

Wow...where did that assumption come from? It's the first time I have seen it, and I doubt very much that Putin wants all of Ukraine. Hell, what would he do with it? My guess that he wants what he has been saying all along...he wants the Russian parts!

U.S. Pauses Ukraine Arms Shipments Amid Broader Military Aid Review, Pentagon Says

The announcement follows confirmation by the White House that some shipments—reportedly including vital air defense munitions—have been temporarily halted.

“We can’t give weapons to everybody all around the world. We have to look out for America and defending our homeland,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said during his first solo press briefing.

And this is the unavoidable reality of the world. We have to make decisions based on what is best for America, but until recently we didn't have a president who cared more for America than for the rest of the world.

I am happy that the administration is prioritizing the defense of America and its armed forces over the defense of a corrupt pseudo-democracy and its tinpot dictator president.

Zenlensky is an actor hired to sport a wardrobe chosen by his handlers while mouthing words he is too stupid to understand that were written by his handlers to perpetuate the crisis that war profiteers (on all sides of the political spectrum across the globe) are using to drain the US treasury into their pockets.

What, Crimea, considering that the ejection of the Tatars is a long-done deal? He already had it, though he'd have been better off continuing to lease it instead of engaging in fuckery. The Ukrainians did, and would, have considered it a cheap price to keep Russia of their backs. But China and whoever Biden's handlers are convinced Russia they could snap up some massive oil/gas/ore deposits and 40 million non-muslims/non-asians to buttress their demographics.

Anyone who expected Ukraine to just roll over for practical reasons doesn't understand the last century or two of history there. Even most of the Russian speaking areas didn't go heavily for Russia in the 90's referendum; and *now* the majority of the Russian speakers there outside of Crimea loathe Russia, so much so that many are bailing on the language out of spite.

Bringing Ukraine, and Georgia for that matter, has been a goal of the bi-partisan elite foreign policy in the DC for decades. It caused Putin to invade Georgia back in 2008.

In 2014 the Obama/Biden administration ran a coup in Ukraine to take down an elected president that was friendly with Russia and install their own puppet. In 2016 -2018 they ran the Russian hoax to both dirty up Russia and try to take Trump down. When that failed they tried to impeach over a phone call. With Ukraine which until the time of that call precisely nobody in the US gave a wet fart about.

Those countries weren't chosen at random. They knew Trump was not going to help start the war in Ukraine so he had to go, one way or the other.

I think one of the reasons Putin is so determined to force terms on his conditions before he agrees to come to the table is because of the ethnic cleansing program led by Zelensky's government ran against ethnic Russian Ukranians citizens prior to the war.

Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS)

I'm going to disagree here. Russia is still a significant adversary to the USA. What the conflict in Ukraine has accomplished is to drain Russia of military resources, talent, reputation, and energy. We rightly complain about the cost of our funding and the drain on our stocks of munitions in our support of Ukraine. That's not a one-sided situation. Russia is likewise spending massive amounts of blood & treasure on this conflict. And that drain is weakening their country and its economy in massive ways. That has downstream effects in money that can't be used to advance Russia's agenda.

I understand that the cost to us is high. I don't disagree. But we are using Ukraine as a proxy and putting a huge hurt on one of our largest geopolitical rivals and we're doing it without costing American lives. Beats the hell out of 20 years losing good soldiers in the armpit of the world.

As others have pointed out, Russia's economy is 100% dependent on oil. And their weapons systems have not looked great in Ukraine or in use by Islamists. All they have is nukes, if those even still work.

And Beijing is keen to annex a huge chunk of Russia the second the CCP estimates Putin is unable to defend it. (Which is ironically funny, given China itself is facing a population collapse on a scale never before seen).

When performing ESG studies for a large global investment bank, Ukraine, for years, leads the world for corruption at every level.

One of the problem with Afghanistan's 20 year involvement is that the military forgot how to wage wars, and only developed a door-to-door tactics which was believed necessary to perfect in order to pacify the former US when the coup d' etat by the Left was complete.

I think some of the mission now in Ukraine is develop drone war fighting and counter-measures in a real world environment. That too is supposed to benefit the Left here in the fUS when the Bolshevik revolution is perfected after Trump is gone.

The "White Mars" experiment (14 month study of crew at Concordia Station in Antatctica) to study extreme isolation, monotony and environmental stress showed degradation of the hippocampus (memory, learning, emotional regulation) which made them stupid, forgetful and have the emotional stability of an AWFL off her SSRIs and benzos.

You're not wrong. Russia has some significant business selling weapons to various countries, but the majority of it is exporting oil & natural gas. The fact that the weapons systems have shown themselves to be turd-rate systems is in a large part due to the performance we saw in Ukraine. Until we saw them in action, they weren't our level but they were considered to be worrisome in the quantities we expected. Now... well, not so much. Yet another benefit to having a proxy fight for you.

As for the nukes: I would treat them seriously until we see evidence that we should not. And all of the evidence I've seen so far is that their nuclear forces is one thing the Russians take very seriously.

Zelenskyy came to the White House via a stop over in Ireland. And, various EU diplomats met him there to prep him for the White House visit. I'm sure the White House was aware.

229 Jesus CBD is ignorant. The Ukrainian constitution says no elections during time of war. The Ukrainians expect the US to assist with their defense because we agreed to do so in exchange for them giving up their nukes. The opening Russian offensive was an attack directly on Kiev, which is NOT considered a "Russian part" -- the goal was to decapitate the government and have the entire nation surrender.

But, whatever. Keep slobbering over the KGB thug's knob and give the world yet another example of the US not living up to our treaty obligations. I'm sure that won't bite us in the ass again.

Posted by: Rob Crawford at July 06, 2025 02:07 PM (mo/j9)

230 But why does NATO keep expanding in the first place?

Because Putin keeps threatening his neighbors. Finland didn't join as a lark -- they did so immediately after Putin and his mouthpieces started repeating the same lies about Finland that they have about the Ukraine.

Because NATO is about the Fabian dream of a one-world government, and you can't have *that* without a one-world STANDING ARMY.

That may be the dumbest take in the history of dumb takes.

Posted by: Rob Crawford at July 06, 2025 02:11 PM (mo/j9)

231 CBD you are naive. Putin is pan-Slavish at heart. He would like to re-unite all the Slavic speaking nations under the protection of big brother Russia and the Baltic states too, just because, ice free winter ports, baby.

Historically, there is no love lost between Poles and Ukes, but the Poles have been strong supporters of Ukraine (despite some selfish attempts by Ukraine to take advantage of that. They look at themselves as second on Putin's menu, if Putin could strike a deal with Merz to split Poland in half. I only partly jest, but the cupidity of Germans knows no bounds.

Putin's ego exceeds that of Trump's, but he has brought nothing but death and isolation to Russia. He's now dependent on China, a resource-hungry nation and predatory state. China now faces an eviscerated military defending a veritable feast of
resources on a huge, 2,600 mile border.

Putin conquering Ukraine would ultimately be a disaster for Russia. He has control of the Russian speaking parts and is likely to keep them in negotiations. He doesn't want to negotiate; he wants total conquest. WTF he's expended so much blood and treasure to get only slivers of Ukraine. He's locked in a sunk-cost dilemma.

Treaty?

234 We gave our word that we would defend Ukraine. Budapest Morandum, 1994.

I kinda think that means something.

Or not.

Holodomor. Some say it was worse than the Holocaust. I don't know about all that.

They haven't forgotten it and neither should you.

235 We gave our word that we would defend Ukraine. Budapest Morandum, 1994.

I was not, get this, consulted about that. Bill Clinton made some promises. I don't feel any urge to back it up, or send my son to back it up, or even my coin to back it up.

236 Not about to read the entire thread which starts off with a lot of "I was here first posts". So I won't know if what I'm writing has been covered.

"Putin wants back the Russian parts". Ever of heard of The Holodomor? Within their grandparents lifetimes, the Communists murdered up to five million Ukrainians and shipped in ethnic Russians, (most of whom didn't want to come). That's the 'Russian' parts.

OTOH Ukraine is corrupt, almost as corrupt as the USA. And we're pissing our militaries lifeblood away into that black hole.

Both leaders of the two nations involved don't want peace, equally. Putin at least is paying his own way, I think it's a bad investment, but that's on him.

If the peace could have been achieved by now, Trump would have done it. He's the greatest peace maker I've seen in my lifetime. If he thinks it's time for the USA to walk away from the table, I trust his judgement.

We, as a nation, likely have more direct and vital to our real interests threats a coming.

Have done with Ukraine.

237 In my trade agreement with Ukraine we'll bargain one armament for every one fertile Ukrainian hottie.

Hot fertile women for guns.

238 Americans don't know western Ukraine welcomed the Waffen SS. Americans don't know the pro-Nazi sentiment still lives in Ukraine.

But Russians do know. And Russians really really don't like Nazis.

239 Memories of the Holodomor are real in Ukraine, as are memories of Russians trying to suppress Ukrainian language and culture.
In truth there is an affinity between Russia and Ukraine, but Putin insists on raping Ukraine, when he could have seduced them.
It's sad, pathetic, and unnecessary; but Ukrainians (and others, because I am not Ukrainian) remember how brutal Russians are.
CBD you are a Russkii sock puppet to ignore these facts.

240 238 Yep, they did. After being brutalized by Russians in the Holodomor the Ukes welcomed the Nazis. And they were rejected, because they were sub-human Slavs.
Because of their racist ideology the Nazis rejected a huge potential ally.
The pro-Nazi sentiment was temporary. They were incredulous that the Nazis were worse than Russians.
Waffen SS iconography persists in Ukraine and Russia. it is not ideological. Nazis looked down on all Slavs as subhuman, It's adoption is based on the reputation for brutality, independent of ideology.

241 Our hegemonic Deep State strted the Ukraine war.

Why? I suspect it was at the urging of the EU/NATO/WEF/IMF/Soros/Davos crowd. I'd be curious to see the Venn diagram of the membership lists of all of those.

But non-elite America has no good reason to shed blood or expend treasure there.

This captures my feelings well enough:

28 My position on that war from the beginning - and one that I have seen no reason to change - is that this is a conflict between two organized crime families on the other side of the world, and I see no reason why I should pay for any of it, or cheerlead for either side.

242 The problem is going to be what Putin thinks of things when they're all over.
No amount of fuming over the costs of war to Russia, to global connections, history of whatchamacallit, nothing matters but what Putin thinks and nobody outside his head has the least influence on what he thinks.
Been said he's trying to restore the glories of Soviet Russia, and is close to insane about it. Or the Russian Empire, ditto.
Russia has baked into its DNA the fear of invasion and it lacks borders. There are lines on maps but they don't stop armies. The other side of the line is a potential enemy, or an easy path for the next country over to pass through o the way to invade. Might be easier to sell to the Russians, and to Putin, that the only defensive strategy is to keep invading your neighbors.
Don't need any input from all-knowing students of Clausewitz or Sun Tzu. It's what Putin thinks.
And if he thinks, on the net, that he won, he'll do it again.
What would Putin consider? Land taken. Natural resources therein. Transportation hubs. ) I recall somebody saying Bastogne had something like 4000 people, but it was the junction of seven roads.) Handy borders with the next victim.

243 The Ukraine is well known for its corruption - just look at the Hunter Biden situation. A great deal of the Western money throw into that cesspool is laundered to Globalists - it's probably their biggest ATM. That's why US lawmakers are so intent on sending it - they get kickbacks. Their constituents don't care about the Ukraine.

It's funny - Putin is anti-Globalist, so he's really an ally of Trump. Did you notice Trump (also anti-Globalist) has withheld arms to Ukraine, with various excuses? At the same time, Putin is withholding anti-air defense systems from Iran, which he is supposedly allied with. Somehow nobody notices this.

Z has no interest in peace. Trump gave him a chance, but Z's incentives are to keep it going, so Trump is feeding him to Putin, and Putin is returning the favor.

244 Oh, and the Azov battalion (Ukrainian) is literally Nazis. Funny, how few people list Russia's stated goals, and try to refute them. One goal is "de-Nazification" - in other words crushing the Azov battalion. They don't want to talk about that, because people don't like Nazis - that helps the Russian narrative, and the corporate media is run by Globalists (Nazis). So the virtue signalers with their Ukrainian flags are literally supporting Nazis.

The disputed areas have all voted overwhelmingly to be annexed by Russia. They are overwhelmingly ethnic Russian, and Ukraine was killing them by the thousands. Supporting Ukraine isn't supporting "freedom" and "democracy" - it's supporting persecution and genocide.
