59 Kind of an interesting painting. It really captures the look of a small dry dock area for wooden boats. They always seem sort of derelict and makeshift. (The scaffolding for the boats doesn't look very secure.) The feel is emphasized by the dry brushwork and spare use of color.

Not something I would hang but it gets the feel of the scene across effectively.

This may be a small one, without the side walls. The ballast tanks that need to be emptied form the working platform. You can make out a few of the support blocks that raise the keel.

This is definitely not a graving yard.

171 I’ve had a boat for pretty much my entire life, growing up the family had one and I had one since I was about 27 or 28 on my own.

Being Over Another Thousand isn’t that far off the mark. But it’s worth it. At least it is for me as I used it a ton. I’m on the water minimum twice a week sometimes 3 or 4 times.

What I never understand is people who boats who that use it once or twice a summer. Still costs money to winterize it, store it, pay insurance on it, registration fees, and do yearly maintenance. Plus most likely interest on a Loan.

I’m like why not just rent a boat for the day when you need it?

Law enforcement has rolled up 11 other members of the antifa cell.

"They've been charged federally with attempted murder and also face local charges of terrorism in Johnson County, Texas."

So, this cell of radicals pumped themselves up for revolution. They accomplished nothing but got one of their members killed. And now most, if not all, of the cell is in cuffs being tried for attempted murder.

I really don't think this color revolution/attempt at a real revolution is working.

Earnings-Based Accountability Measures

To hold colleges accountable, federal aid will be tied to graduate earnings.

Undergraduate programs whose graduates earn less than the median salary of a high school graduate in their state will lose access to federal loans. Graduate programs will face similar penalties if their graduates earn less than the median bachelor’s degree holder in the same field.

“Colleges should have a stake in their students’ success and be responsible for reimbursing taxpayers for a portion of their losses if students don’t see financial value from enrolling in an institution and can’t repay,” the Committee on Education and the Workforce wrote about the legislation.

234 The main driver of that decision is whether you have a slip or not. Had I been able to acquire a slip I might have invested for the long term. Launching and recovering a boat every time you want to use it sucks.
Posted by: pudinhead at July 08, 2025 10:14 AM (W3T6M)

Absolutely. A slip makes boating exponentially more enjoyable. Drive up, park, 5 minutes later you’re off. With a slip you also don’t feel like you need to get “your moneys worth” and be out all day long. It’s a PIA to launch so you feel like you need to make the most of it.

With a slip, I’ll go out for an hour sometimes after work. Just put put around jump in to swim for a bit and come back. But if it takes an hour to launch and an hour to take out, bring back to storage, etc, you’re not going to do that.

It ain’t cheap though. Around here it’s hard to even find one. And when they do become available you pay through the nose for one. Supply and demand at its core.

Watch what he does, not what he says.

271 When I was in college/law school I worked in a ship yard that built and repaired barges. The facility was on a large creek that ran into the Hudson. Dangerous heavy steel work. Refloating a barge to repair it was fun and then had to ease it into a big drydock raised and lowered by a large compressor. Tough work.

So yeah there probably will be some kind of amnesty. Something like people who’ve been here for X number of years with no criminal history, blah blah blah. Same shit that is always proposed.

And of course there will be all sorts of fraud to create documents showing every illegal in the country arrived in 1994. Even ones who are 22 years old.

There’s too much money being made with illegals (including sex trafficking) for it to go away fully. Trump’s heart is in the right place, I think. But we have to face reality.

I think that 1M is bullshit.

Just looking around my neck of the woods, I don’t see any less illegals than a year ago. Every construction site is illegals. Every roof being replaced is an army of Guatemalans. The same amount to Spanish is heard Walmart. None of these people seem especially afraid of being deported either, since they’re not exactly hiding.

And I live in a red area where police cooperates with ice.

Both. I currently use a credit union for savings and Bank of America (yeah, whatever, I like their bill pay system) but neither pays shit for interest. It's not like I'm planning on keeping a ton of money in either place but it bothers me to let them make money off my money without giving me a share.
Posted by: I used to have a different nic at July 08, 2025 10:50 AM (ExV1e)

I have used a few different online-only banks over the years. Much better rates vs big banks, and even better than credit unions. Just be sure you are fully aware of rules/limits/fees on transferring funds. You want to be sure you can liquidate as easily as possible if/when necessary.

Your comment about not keeping a ton of money in there is smart. Use the online bank as a secondary account for interest earning purposes. The more fee-free transferring in/out you can do, the better.

Hope that helps.
