No Emus Is Good Emus Cafe

dogsallowed.jpg

Dog packing for his vacation.

After a long day, it's time to hit the couch.

Cat keeps her truckdriver dad company while on the road.

Dogs saying "I love you." Some of them get very close. We're on the edge of a Scooby Cascade.

Dogs are excited for the pizza delivery.

Elephant slumber party.

I suppose you're all wondering why I summoned you here today.

Orangutan has mastered human juicebox technology.

Getting close to a tornado.

White guys parody the highly theatrical way that Indians prepare and serve street hot dogs.

Border collies are doing the jobs humans just won't do.

The team is ready.

Bear takes her cubs out for a walk. Surprisingly under-control.

Ostrich shows off his sexy moves.

Steve Inman:

Woman throws a shoe at an ostrich and finds out the reason for that old saying, "Never throw a shoe at an ostrich."

Panda MMA.

7 It would be a better world if our dogs had to vouch for us, for sure.

(Though our massively spoiled doggo thinks we are mean because we don't give him ALL the food on our plates. We give him morsels, and it's not enough. Also that we won't let him hump the blankets in the living room we use when we are watching TV. I dunno why that's a thing for him, but it is!)

60 Everyone laughs at Pandas. So do the animal characters in my book. But I like pandas. So I created a backstory for them that they were once the greatest of all land animals. The ancient panda warrior caste, the Xiongmao Zhanshi, were legendary warriors 20 feet tall, resplendent in their bamboo armor and spears.

They fought a cataclysmic war against the Draeyyganns, an invasive mutated lizard species that were the last of the giant dinosaurs. They were basically 40 foot long Komodo dragons that were killing everything in their path and would have dominated the earth. The Zhanshi won the war, but paid the ultimate price. None survived.

The only remaining pandas were tiny stunted ones, the runts of their kind. Those became the pandas we know today. So laugh if you will. But at one time eons ago, pandas defeated dragons and saved the world.

85 Hah, if runner is "not" here I'll have at it.

SO. THE LAUREN SANCHEZ WEDDING DRESS. I HAVE THOUGHTS.

1) I am TICKED that everyone is comparing it to Kate Middleton's dress, and bashing it because she's copying Middleton. When she was CLEARLY inspired by Grace Kelly's iconic, perfection of a wedding dress (which Kate Middleton and Sarah Burton of McQueen clearly used as their inspiration, with a modern twist.)

She also is known to be enamoured by Sophia Loren (who I feel like, with her hourglass figure, european sophistication, and chiseled face, Lauren is trying to morph into.) It is CLEARLY inspired by the wedding dress in Houseboat.

2) Granted, Lauren's dress IS the Temu/Shein mashup of Sophia and Grace's dresses. It manages to be tacky and classy at the same time. But if you are getting married in Venice, having Dolce and Gabbana, the old Italian queens, make your dress, is appropriate. It looks like they took an old Italian mama's wedding dress from the 50s and decked it up in modern sophistication (and that horrible fishtail hem, ugh.) Very on brand for D&G.

(part 1)

3) Katie Couric mean girl'd about the Sanchez wedding dress, saying that it brings 80s era tackiness back to fashion. She means the 80s Trump era, when Trump was in his golden age of both business and pop culture. She's clearly forgetting about all the tackiness that EVERY era has in fashion. The long nails, clodhopper heels, nearly nude dresses, Gaga meat dresses, everyone wearing the horrible Marchesa dresses by Georgina Chapman even though they are hideous, because Georgina was married to Weinstein and they wanted to stay on his good side...

Trump didn't bring the 80s excess back, honey. It's always been here. And Gen Z and Gen Alpha are obsessed with 80s/90s trends to that is also why they have been back in a big way for several years now.

Anyway, I love that Bezos and Sanchez tried to be the biggest news this week, and for Katie it's still about Trump. Live rent free in their heads for life, Donald! It amuses me.

124 Anyway, long post short about the dress:

Lauren Sanchez' wedding dress IS the Temu version of Grace Kelly's and Sophia Loren's dresses, and the silhouette and the buttons and the heavy lace make it a bit odd, but very on brand for D&G. But bless her for trying to bring some classy european sophistication to it, even if it is a little tacky.

Also, I give her props for having sleeves!!! I though it would be boobs and busty all over the place. I give her props for attempting to be tasteful and bring some glamour back with her D&G dress, even it the result isn't fully successful.

I'm just sad that it seems like a lot of people don't know their fashion history. It's as if the first lace wedding dress in history was worn by Kate Middleton. I fear for the youths.

My youngest daughter used to do all kinds of pet-sitting jobs when she was a young teen.

In one case, she got $50/day to feed/play/potty break animals at noon, and then sleep overnight in a king-sized bed with two dogs and two cats.

I asked how she slept in a strange bed, she said she slept great and the animals didn't bother her at all during the night.

Of course, all of the jobs like that were through "networking" where she was recommended directly for jobs by other people that knew her well (and we knew - for her safety).

Got any friends in the area that might know some good pet-sitters for you?

If not, can you take the dog to the cabin? Warm enough to sleep outdoors in a crate if the cabin owner has a no pets rule?

257 Regarding those big stupid wind blades. I recall a day in Fort Collins when a huge train carrying a bunch of those stupid blades stopped traffic for about 30 minutes. Each blade required three flat-bed cars with specialized anchors and bumpers to stabilize them. Instead of getting annoyed by the delay like I was, the friggin' zoomers pulled out their phones and took pictures.

The stupid is all over the place.

They weren't getting much out of them in my neck of the woods today. Nearly a dead calm all day, what sailors would call "light airs".

265 I'm curious what a emu steak tastes like. Can we call them steaks or is it just a ginormous turkey with light and dark meat?

I'm thinking mashed sweet potatoes and cobbler for dessert.

266 four seasons, oh ouch. But, yes, what a sense of humor!

My hubby's the same way with his quick wit. We've had so much rain in the last week that a big old oak tree that was leaning off the side of a hill in our backyard fell to the ground Thursday night. No wind, just highly saturated ground that couldn't support it. Pulled the roots right out of the ground, too.

The tree fell on one of hubby's parts car. All the branches and leaves totally concealed the car from view.

Hubby said, "You might be a redneck if a tree falls and your yard looks better," lol. ;-)

I was as well. However, the boy had one, a knock off later version, and I have a photo of him wearing his onesie pajamas leaning back on it like he was boss of the raceway. I have threatened to use it as blackmail more than once.

I also taught him to sing "Born to be Wild!!!" at top volume while "motoring."

293 I was shocked to hear today that Chris the Zman, of Thezman.com blog, died unexpectedly last Thursday at the age of 59. He had produced a column every Monday through Thursday, with an hour-long podcast on Friday, for years.
He was an articulate spokesman for the Dissident Right, and an early critic of ConInc. He had some strong opinions, but he wasn't for sale.
He reportedly died of natural causes. As far as I know he did not have any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of Hillary Clinton.
