Work on reading comprehension. There are $1.6 Trillion in spending cuts. That's the largest rollback of government spending in US history.

Some specific cuts:
1 - Medicaid eliminated for illegals.
2 - IRS funding of 87,000 new agents gone
3 - Ends funding of abortions abroad
4 - Defunds Planned Parenthood
5 - Removes all federal Diversity czars
6 - Removes all federal funding for minor trans surgery
7 - Removes all funding to the UN's various woke agencies

People also owned real clothes back then, not mass produced crap from Honduras, China, and Haiti. They fit correctly and were made of good quality material, and lasted. They also cost 10x as much, so you bought something nice and you wore that shit.

Not that I'm fundamentally opposed to imports, but at least make something half decent like US materials with labor in ... ehh... Vietnam maybe. The Vietnamese are competent and hard-working in a way the Chinese will never be. Which is one of, but not the only, reason they kick the everloving shit out of the PRC every time they've fought.

Every photo of my female family members from that time looks about like this painting. It was a serious time, and they had a serious attitude about it. They were also still making dresses for themselves out of the patterned flour sacks that became common during the depression.

169 Circa 1942. Very nice, very appropriate.

American Art dot si dot edu

In Serviceman’s Wife, Ivan Olinsky painted a woman looking up expectantly, perhaps to greet her husband, who has just opened the door. Her skirt draws out the yellow of the pears in the background and her full lips match the apple’s rosy skin. The grays and blues of her shirt echo those of the white cloth on which the fruits rest. She is integrated into her environment as if she is simply one part of a still life. Olinsky specialized in idealized images of women, and his portraits were successful on the market, selling for up to $2,000 each in the 1920s. His work had grown even more popular by the 1940s, when he worked for the commercial firm Portraits, Inc. Critics noted that each of his women looked like “a hardy perennial despite her delicate air.” (Cummings, Olinsky, Faces of Change: The Art of Ivan G. Olinsky, 1878-1962, 1995)

I would consider hanging today's selection.

Veronica Lake went with a much shorter hair style than her iconic over-the-eye look. Her career never recovered after the war.

Veronica Lake is best known for her iconic "peek-a-boo" hairstyle, which she famously wore with one strand of hair cascading over her eye. However, during World War II, she altered her hairstyle to encourage safer and more practical options for women working in factories. This shift led to her adopting the "victory roll," a hairstyle that was more secure and less likely to get caught in machinery. While she ultimately cut her hair shorter, it's her signature long, iconic hairstyle that remains most associated with her

"Karine Jean-Pierre leaving the Democratic Party because of how they treated Biden

I have to say I agree with Karine Jean-Pierre. Regardless of whether people think Biden should have run or not run, the way the Democratic leaders of the party publicly shot him in the back was disgusting. Who wants to vote for a party that says they'll "fight for you" when they won't even fight for their own President?

This also put VP Harris behind the 8-ball and made things so much tougher for her. When leaders like Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Adam Schiff say your President isn't competent and should stand down, where does that put Kamala Harris? She was Biden's VP! Now she has to spend time defending herself for working for a man whom her own party is saying wasn't competent. The Dem leaders tarnished the entire Administration by their public crucifixion of Joe. Such a catastrophically stupid political move, and shameful treatment of their own President, who worked so hard for all Americans."

That press room is the perfect expression of the DC / NYC political class. About the only disagreement among them is when to break for lunch.

As some have hit on - when did this reverence for the media happen ? We can all read, back in the day, how the public had no respect for the print-only media. Muckrakers and rags were common expressions.

Did radio or television change it ? I don't know. I do know that most people absolutely take it as the gospel if they see it visually - and that goes for all ages. Now its "Rogan said this" with the kids. If I hear "I heard on Rogan" one more time I'll puke.

They defeated the fascist would-be empire, to silently, slowly transform into fascists.

Read a piece that was about how "Stakeholder Capitalism" comes out of this German book, post WWII called "Idealistic Realism" or something. And that paralleled themes in Giovanni Gentile's "Concrete Idealism" which is a philosophy that birth fascism.

Very few people care about Gentile. Because he didn't kill 6 million jews, and his idea of the State was more or less as a means for progress of society.

And really, you can't slag Mussolini who became a student of Gentile after editing the most prestigious Marxist periodical in Italy for a decade or two. Because there was a note of "progress" in the changes that Mussolini made to Italy (although children were to belong to the State).

Before the Nazis broke out, much of Europe and some of America was enthralled with how efficient fascism seemed to be.

You can even argue that as an intellectual of some capacity, Italy had a "Philosopher/King".
