Project Veritas has released Part Two of a shocking undercover meeting with DNC Vice Chair David Hogg criticizing former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress for suspiciously timed stock trades that suggest insider knowledge. In the footage, Hogg admits that Pelosi's financial success - worth hundreds of millions - outpaces even the best hedge funds, raising serious questions about corruption at the highest levels of the political party he seeks to lead.
"I would say Pelosi's actually very good at her job. I don't agree with the stock trading stuff," Hogg says in the video.

"Some of these members of Congress make trades that are, like, way too well-timed to not have, like, insider knowledge." He goes further, stating, "She gets better returns than almost every hedge fund in the city. Every year."
When pressed by a Veritas journalist on whether this is how Pelosi amassed her wealth, Hogg responds unequivocally: "Yes." He acknowledges the systemic issue, noting, "They happen to be some of the best financial analysts in human history," dripping with sarcasm about the improbability of Congress members' market success without insider information.

Maybe Jake Tapper will get around to "reporting" on this in 2037. "We just didn't have any Nancy Pelosi insiders who would go 'on the record' about her clearly getting insider information to beat the hedge funds every single year," he'll say.

And he will look back on his failure to ask questions about this "with humility."

Back then, I probably could recite the book's words from memory. Even looking at it now, I remember the names of many of the ships. My dad was a big sci-fi and fantasy fan. A full wall in our living room was bookcases from floor to ceiling. He had 100s of books. If there was a sci-fi or fantasy book from Jules Verne to later Niven, he had it. Anyway, I was a little kid when I found the " Trade Authority" among the collection. Great book, very clever and some great illustrations for the time. I wonder where I can get a hard copy?

But Foss did most of them and I've looked on line and I might of had one of his self published books instead. It's been ages and I can't remember the details. 94 Outside of Trump almost every politician does much, much better financially after getting elected. And remember our nominal salaries for elected office aren't that high.

I'd like to get rid of the income tax completely (if you tax work you get less of it) but for as long as we have it I think you could get a partial fix:

Double the salaries of fed office holders. Then tax them at a 100% rate for any money they earn above the best of their top year in federal work or the top year in the preceding five years of private sector work for 10 years after leaving elective office. And include spouses in this.

This would catch a lot of the financial shenanigans our elected officials get up to, and the increase in salary should mollify any concerns the can't live on the salary.

But Foss did most of them and I've looked on line and I might of had one of his self published books instead. It's been ages and I can't remember the details. He was useful from a political standpoint though, so CEO puts his brother in a job that sounded responsible, but in reality there were so many checks and firewalls that he had absolutely zero relativity to anything. Dude spent his time going around to individual projects to try and pretend he was relevant.

If you look at the whole series as two trilogies with a bridge (Dune, Messiah, and Children is the first. Heretics, Chapterhouse, and then the intended third entry which became two books Hunters and Sandworms, is the second. God Emperor is the bridge.), then the choice of Duncan as a protagonist in the later books makes more sense.

And then his publishers convinced him with money to write a new trilogy, which he planned out, finishing the first two entries and planning out the third. His son found the notes for the third and set out with Kevin J. Anderson to reinvigorate interest in the franchise with the prequels (three set right before Dune, and then three set during the Butlurian Jihad) before they took those notes and turned them into the two-parter.

The second "trilogy" in four parts is surprisingly cohesive in intent. They're messes and don't entertain that well, but there's a solidity to their meaning and narratives.

This. I never did like it.

1) The Coliseum is no where near that big when you are inside it. It's a small thing, but it annoyed the hell out of me in a movie I was already having qualms about.

2) The Romans did not melee like the initial battle. The reason they ground so many people into the mud was because they did not. It does not look as good in a movie to have a group of brave savages run into the equivalent of a combine reaper, but it would be a lot more realistic. The scene set the tone of the movie for me.

Yes, but his use on the mission of retrieving Caesar's Eagle standard wasn't to redeem himself. Vorenus understood that it was a hopeless mission, and that anyone on the mission (including himself) would be disgraced by failing. So Vorenus took Pullo because the loss of one drunken fool would do little damage to the legion.

They were extremely lucky to happen upon the Eagle and return it. 1 in a million chance, showing that the two of them had powerful gods on their side, which would save their asses several times from Caesar's wrath when they'd fuck up.
