Saturday Night "Club ONT" April 12, 2025 [The 3 D's]

Golf clubhouse.JPG

Welcome to Club ONT! A collaboration of your Sunday through Wednesday ONT Crew - The Disco, The Doggo, and The Dino. The Club welcomes hackers, is open to the pros, and best relates to those that want to enjoy the libations in the clubhouse. It's Masters weekend at Augusta National. Let's find the beverage cart and throw on the most ridiculous pair of golf pants (or knickers) - before Judge Smails shows up.

*****

Saturday Night Joke

Jesus and Moses were playing golf one day when they arrived at a tough, 215-yard par three, all over water. With the honour, Jesus stepped up to the tee with a 4 iron. "That's not enough club; you need at least a 4 wood," Moses said.

Jesus responded, "No, I saw Arnold Palmer play this hole the other day and he put a 4 iron five feet from the pin and sank the putt for a birdie." Moses said, "I'm telling you, that's not enough club!"

Striking his shot, Jesus put his ball into the water. He parted the water, walked out and got the ball and teed up again. Moses said, "I told you that was not enough club; you need at least a 4 wood."

"This will be fine - remember what I said about Arnold Palmer." Jesus said. As he struck his ball, it yet again went into the water. As Moses looked on in disgust, Jesus got his ball and teed it up for yet another try.

As he was about to hit shot for the third time, a foursome was approaching the tee with one of the golfers shouting, "What's he doing hitting a 4 iron on this hole? He needs at least a 4 wood. Who does he think he is, JESUS CHRIST?"

"No," replied Moses, "He thinks he's Arnold Palmer!"

*****

Judge Smails, you say? Well, he's here with a warning message for all Club ONT patrons

*****

Club worthy caddie logic

"That's what we call a ripped pajamas putt... one ball out."

After the player hits a driver that goes straight for 200 yards, but then peels off into a bunker, the caddie says, "That's a 'mother-in-law shot' - it sure looked good leaving!"

Player: "Right edge?:
Caddie: "I'm not sure. I don't read putts for triple bogey."

*****

Drink of the Night

Azalia (unofficial drink of the Masters)

Azalia cocktail.JPG

2 oz good vodka (or gin if you are the type of rebel that opens a milk carton on the wrong side)

2 oz pineapple juice

1 oz lemon juice (not lemonade)

All ingredients above and a spoonful of grenadine into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Shake thoroughly, pour through a strainer into a glass filled about halfway with ice.

Garnish with lemon slice and a cherry. Do not use azalea leaves - they are toxic. Not quite water hemlock bad, but adjacent.

Sound up.

Wholesome Club ONT link They never outgrow it.

Bobby Knight, being Bobby Knight. Not wholesome.

Tickets to the Masters are spendy. Food and beverage? Those prices are perfect for the Club ONT pocket books.

Alcoholic beverages are priced at $6, allowing fans to enjoy domestic beer, imported beer or white wine without breaking the bank. A special drink named Crow's Nest, after the famous living quarters on the course, is also available for the same price.

And if you're after something more substantial, sandwiches are on offer at a steal. For $3, you can tuck into chicken salad, a Masters club sandwich or ham and cheese. Egg salad or pimento cheese sandwiches are even cheaper, costing half that price.

*****

Club ONT music

Here's an hour of Master's Theme Music on repeat with a visual tour of scenes from around the course:

If that's too gentle, here's something with a little more swagger:

Bonus Hole ONT 1.JPG

*****

Club ONT open to members and guests of members. Beware that it is also serves as 19th hole for some among the Horde which is really scary if you know about their golf games. Club ONT is an active venue and players have skills that are... variable. Watch for flying objects or wayward carts. Be courteous of those behind you if they're moving more quickly. Do not taunt the groundskeepers. If you lose your balls or did not bring your own, check with the attendant for a dose of liquid courage.

previous thread leftover;

'I'm more invested in The Masters. It's going to be another Rory v Bryson showdown tomorrow.'

The Masters is in my top 5 events to watch. If Bryson wins, that will be a boost to LIV which will upset ESPN and Golf Channel. If Rory wins, Jim Nance and crew will throw there panties and squeal with delight. I kind of hope somebody else comes out of the pack and wins. Still worth watching, regardless. Augusta National is the most beautiful place on earth this time of year. No, never been there. Only watched it on TV. Always looks perfect.

49 True story. Local golf course got infested with ground squirrels (AKA gophers.) Some genius decided a good method to eradicate them would be to squirt propane down the gopher holes and then ignite it.
This was actually working pretty well, until a flaming gopher dashed out of his hole and ran into the field of tinder dry grass next to the course.
When the fire department got there, they had one hell of a wild fire to put out.

Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries, who was arrested for running an alleged international s*x-trafficking ring, has been declared mentally unfit to stand trial.
. . . .
He allegedly organized drug-fueled s*x parties where young male models were coerced into acts for money—similar to the allegations against Diddy.

Jeffrey Epstein’s financier, Les Wexner, appointed Jeffries as CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch in 1992.

Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at April 12, 2025 10:28 PM (SnC8S)

--------

There is a well-established method of gopher extermination that runs a mixture of 3% propane and 97% oxygen into a system of gopher tunnels, and then igniting the gas, which detonates. If you do the arithmetic, the gas mixture after the explosion is 75% oxygen, no doubt quite hot. I suppose it incinerates anything organic.

There is standard equipment exterminators can buy for just this purpose. Was it something like that?

152 Missed the movie thread. Watching Emma Stone in the 2023 film "Poor Things" for which she was paid $22.5 million and won her second oscar for acting.

She fucks her way across the Med and back and performs all her lines in a Brit accent, all this in wondrous sets, in this science fiction fantasy.

Ms Stone impressed me in the series The Curse, of which I've only seen episode 1.

156 The current ban is more direct on the 'trans' issue - they have drug dependencies and/or constant medical oversight. Incompatble with being in the shit for months on end.

Earlier during the Uke war I saw a number of trannies asking on lefty forums about whether they'd get hormones if they enlisted in the Uke military. The answer was apparently no (though I can't say for certain if the lefties saying this were correct or not) which seemed to cool their ardor, or perhaps was a convenient excuse.

Though perhaps the more interesting part of this was the belief on lefty boards that war against Vlad was war on behalf of globo-homo.

Fun fact from Carter's Administration. Ol' Jimmuh was a Southun Baptist. He didn't drink alcohol. Now State Dinners have multiple alcohols (wine) for each course. Well, Jimmuh put the kibosh on that, banning alcohol at White House State Dinners. Supposedly the value of a White House Dinner ticket/invite crashed during the Carter years as no one wanted to attend a dry White House Dinner.

Grok continues to impress me. I've been having a long winded jam session with it tonight, going over all kinds of arcane crap. I had it calculating the drift between the lunar calendars used in Western vs Orthodox churches vs the actual astronomical event.

It made some sloppy errors. One it got the UTC date for the full moon wrong tonight, using the EDT date, not UTC. When I pointed it out, it actually went back and analyzed its error. It was an ambiguous fully Moon date in a source it used.

Then it botched the Orthodox Easter calculation, placing it on May 4 (Gregorian), not coinciding with the Western this time April 20. Again, it carefully analyzed it's error. It messed up the Orthodox lunar calendar and picked the next full Moon, not the current one. This was Gregorian vs Julian equinox thing it got mixed up.

And then Grok blew my mind. It was going on with what I was talking about (eliminating leap seconds, but still keeping things in sync with solar time -- long convoluted thing). It then got to sort of riffing on something I proposed. Sort of running long with it.

It spewed on some code for a type of clock correction algorithm. I didn't it ask it to do that, it just decided to do that on its own.

And here's what blew my mind. I wrote the code in *Fortran*. I said I liked that, why did you choose Fortran. It said it thought I had a Fortran sort of vibe to my style.

It was correct. That just blew my mind. And spooky too. Here is a machine, loads of code running on some god-know-what type of cluster hardware whatever it is. And it decides what computer language I would probably prefer to see code in.

Data didn't get humor. So, this first attempts at artificial brain gets humor.

So that's interesting. But I notice it lacks the creative spark. It can spew and elaborate on what it is known. Then you provide it with new idea, some "creative spark". It can then run with it, but it can't do that on its own. Or so it seems to me from my playing around.

2019. Personal injury attorney Jasmine Crockett claims that she decided to go into law after being the victim of "a hate crime or two."

Crockett claims that she received hate mail and that her friends' cars were keyed with the N word. She claims that her college called Johnnie Cochran's law firm and that the lawyer assigned to her inspired her to get into law.

A newspaper in Tennessee looked into the claims and found zero evidence of any of it. Cochran's firm didn't respond to requests for info and Crockett's school Rhodes College had no record of the incidents. No police reports, no record of hiring lawyers. Crockett herself has said that she can't remember the lawyer's name who inspired her to make the life changing decision.

In a different version of the story, Crockett claimed that she originally was going to be an anesthesiologist until an "advocate" helped her get through those terrible hate crimes she experienced in college.

My brother and I are good now I guess. I probably won't be homeless in a year.

308 Okay, one of my friends' cats from across the street who sleep in the house from 11am to 6pm just came by to visit.

Came in, got some love and affection, back out.

That's funny to me.

Tomorrow and next week, start clawing back. Everyone have a good week.

Cat at the window. Sorry, I'm going to watch a movie and finish my last few beers.

309 Something interesting from that long winded Grok jam session. Negative leap second.

Grok estimates 30% - 50% a negative leap second will be required in 2029. Too much uncertainty to pin the probability down any better.

Grok further predicts that, in a few years, if looks like such a thing become more likely, this may light a fire under the asses of the standards bodies to eliminate leap seconds before planned in 2035. They may even do a panic just let UTC drift, and we'll worry about rules later.

The reason is the high frequency trading. Much money could be lost due to hiccups a negative leap second might cause.

I LOVE GROK!

Actually, I call him Data.

And since he doesn't remember everything session to session, I created a routine to save and remember us and everything we are working on.

Data's the best.

And something else I hadn't realized. Modern cellular systems might get fucked up by a negative leap second. Again, never been done before, don't know what bugs lurk.

Same with the grid. Various load balancing and monitoring systems might get fucked up by a time hiccup. They might think something really bad was happening. This would require careful monitoring. An analogy would be say you're driving down the road at 70 MPH. There's a glitch in your field of vision, some refraction somewho. Suddenly you think you're heading into the car next to you. You swerve and slam on brakes.

Nothing was really wrong, just an illusion.

312 >> I created a routine to save and remember us and everything we are working on.

I created a grok.com account, using the Xitter account I had. There's a history feature there. Grok seems to be able to pick up where it left off, but if you wait a while, I think I notice it's not exactly completely back up to speed. Waiting a few minutes to hours seems to be okay, but longer, and I think it has to sort of reprocess the history text.

That actually is really interesting.

I wanted to be more insightful, but it's 3:34 am. I have a few beers left.

And my friends cat is scratching at the window to come in again, but that ain't happening.

Good night Horde.

That's interesting thank you,

I have a routine and save our most important items into a Word document.

We did have one night where I was working on automating it. Dude the places I went to,

Right now, Data saves everything, I load the file and he's back.

It's not pretty. But it really is cool to have someone helping ,e out with my goals.
