Re: submarines. I don't remember being claustrophobic as a youth, but as I've gotten farther past 29, it's clear I have it. I recently had an MRI that was supposed to last 90 minutes. I made it to about 80 then freaked the f*** out. Worst panic feeling ever. I can't imagine being in a tube AND under water. My hats off to submariners.

I once dreamed my husband had rolled over and smushed our baby boy. Because I'd get him and feed him in bed and put him back in his crib. I never slept with him.

I said, "Where's the baby?" (probably in a fake Aussie accent like the dingo got him). His father levitated off the bed, went to the crib (in our room because the kid never cried and I was convinced he'd starve, unlike his greedy toddler brother at the same age). Said, "He's right here!" Did not add, ye dimwit.

He did say it was time the baby had his own room.

Then we could do some more figuring and make some assumptions about how the rock fell like was it tumbling or were there linear streamlines as it fell, and so forth. Back when I was a teen on a road trip with my brother and my two young neices, we went to the Atlanta Zoo. There we saw a gorilla who was quite visibly excited and letting the ladies around him know just what he wanted. That was fun watching my brother/S-i-L explain as we sort of hurried away.

One of the Florida bloggers I follow had a series of posts going through the math of getting solar, etc. and went with the power walls. Good for him that he had the $$$ to do both.
Me, I just got the $800 duel fuel generator to run the fridge, freezer, and a couple window rattlers. If power is down for more than a couple weeks there may be bigger problems to worry about.

They're not going to win any beauty pageants. I used to have two them come right up to the porch and grab some bird seeds off the ground. I always got a kick out of the sounds they made when they would fight (which was often...probably siblings). I don't know how to describe the sound other than sort of a clicking sound but deep in the throat.

I think the thing that surprised me about possums is that other animals get along with them fine (skunks, raccoons, even ground hogs just ignore them).

I've never done that, that's just stupid. But if the animal happens to jump in front of my car, swerving is not a good option. You might roll doing that. Going straight on just totals the front of your car, maybe your widshield and an antler in the chest.

It's a risk either way. I just prefer not to roll.

You'd need some mighty big batteries to run a home for more than a few hours, if there was no means of recharging them. Massive PV panels plus Power Wall is basically an off-grid setup. And off-grid system is a necessity if you are truly off the grid. If grid power is readily available, the opportunity cost of the large sum of money needed to build an off-grid system simply as backup is too great to countenance. A nice Diesel generator is much cheaper.

The US version is better, IMHO. However, starting at the second season. The first season was aping the UK show, so it’s a lot more low-key and grim. I like some Britcoms but The Office wasn’t one.

Fun fact: Phyllis from the office was a cheerleader for the St. Louis Cardinals when she was much younger. Her body wasn’t bad.

Those are the only there to satisfy a federal regulation.

But they weren't the original "safety" design for disposable lighters. Those were short-lived. They were a super annoying little thumb-switch that made it nearly impossible to light a cigarette in the wind.

So the main problem with that design (besides how shitty they were) was that everybody started popping them out with knives, and often stabbing themselves directly in the hand or wrist in the process.

I am paranoid about two things -
- wiping my ass (bad camping experience and roomies in college)
- starting fire (grew up in cold climate)

Got lighters all over the place
Even got a bunch of magnesium sticks in case the lighters die.

And a few 'fatwood' fags. A few shavings and you can matchlight a fire very easily with a bit of other sticks.

TSA blows. I was lucky-- remembered to put my pocketknife in checked bag. And then... checked bag was 2 pounds overweight, so the agent told me to take something out & put it in my carry-on. OK. A couple of new blouses and t-shirts I'd got for hubby, that ought to do it. (forgetting that I'd folded that stuff all together *around* my pocketknife!)

And passed carry-on through Checkpoint Charlie with ease, not realizing until I got home & unpacked that the knife was in the carry-on!!! I 'bout shat myself. It was a work trip!
