Been quite a day here in N.E. Oklahoma. High winds whipping fires up, sky brown with smoke.
🔥🔥🔥 Leaves were piled up so high in front of the front door, we used the back door to take Daisy for a walk. House was rattling and vents banging all day, like the place was haunted. I was willowed
A man who was a member of the Order of the Moose went hunting with an old friend who was a member of the Elks' club. They were in a stand, overlooking a water hole, when a bull moose shouldered out of the brush and went down to take a drink from the fresh flowing water. "Don't shoot him," the one friend, "it is like he is a lodge brother or something." So they let the moose drink in peace and depart. Later a bull elk strode majestically out of the trees and sauntered down to the spring. The Elks' member shot it dead, and said, "Wasn't one of ours, he was drinking water" Posted by: Kindltot at March 14, 2025 10:08 PM (D7oie) 18

He said they were coated in cosmoline, which got on everything. They had more stringent psychological requirements to qualify, they couldn’t afford people cracking up.
He said during the assessment phase, you went into a room, where a psychologist was located at a desk. He had one question. “Do you like girls?” That was it. True story Posted by: Common Tater at March 14, 2025 10:28 PM (rPV7A) 69

The falling-rock problem you could solve by calculus, or graphically. Make a chart of known distances, and calculate the fall time using d=1/2aT^2 Then calculate the time it takes for the sound to return. Make graph with various known depths, depth vs total time to hear the crash. For an unknown depth, enter the graph on the time axis, and trace up the curve, and the depth intercept for that point is your answer.

I love the video above of the new mothers scaring herself giving her baby a pacifier. Don't know if she was sleep deprived from a baby, but it can do some strange things to you. I once dreamed my husband had rolled over and smushed our baby boy. Because I'd get him and feed him in bed and put him back in his crib. I never slept with him. I said, "Where's the baby?" (probably in a fake Aussie accent like the dingo got him). His father levitated off the bed, went to the crib (in our room because the kid never cried and I was convinced he'd starve, unlike his greedy toddler brother at the same age). Said, "He's right here!" Did not add, ye dimwit. He did say it was time the baby had his own room. I laughed about the baboon zoo closure above. I think I have something wrong with me. If I were super-sentient I could estimate the mass and size of the rock by figuring how big the fellow was that heaved the rock and how much effort he was putting in to lift it. Then we could do some more figuring and make some assumptions about how the rock fell like was it tumbling or were there linear streamlines as it fell, and so forth. But there comes a point when you’ve milked a problem as much as you want to bother. I’m already there. What language did the guy yell in? That’s a clue to his size.

Medieval illustrators frequently decorated the edges of manuscripts with depictions of hares and rabbits as highwaymen and violent foes. It’s funny to modern sensibilities, but when you think about how close people lived to starvation you might think of cute little cottontails in a different light.
