What are your 'cannot live without' kitchen items?
Tongs. You can't have too many tongs. Spatulas were already mentioned, but you can't have enough of those, either. They're wonderful for scooping out little bits of food that seem to always get missed when you try to take them out with a spoon. Garlic slicer/press Pan scraper. Much better than a scouring pad to get burnt bits of food off pots and pans before they get washed. When you're camping, they do double-duty, because you don't want brillo-type pads that have food stuck in there that you can't wash off. Bears and other critters find those things like truffle pigs - uncanny. Posted by: Darrell Harris at March 11, 2025 10:28 PM (fAOUK) 79

Pan scraper. Much better than a scouring pad to get burnt bits of food off pots and pans before they get washed. Notice not one link to VF-124's F-14A-80GR Tomcat "76" in glorious Bicentennial markings. As for as A-10s there are two more Heritage schemes. One is painted with D-Day invasion stripes and OD over NG. Another was painted in pre-war markings. For our NATO allies and especially for the KLU there is F-16A "Dirty Diana". There are plenty of other colorful F-16s in Europe. The Italians have had a multitude of gorgeously painted F-104S/F-104ASA to choose from. Posted by: Anna Puma at March 11, 2025 10:45 PM (jZ0bo) 130

I went jab-jab-jab-jab and WOW, the thing worked like a charm. It had a wooden handle and a very sharp stainless steel blade. I had no idea how it got into my drawer, where it came from, and I examined it. In clear, well-engraved lettering: VEGETABLE CHOPPER NUTBROWN MADE IN ENGLAND I dashed to the internet and found that "vintage Nutbrown" utensils are a thing. The Nutbrown company was founded in 1927 by Thomas M Nutbrown. Went out of business a few years ago. The chopper is amazing. I told my sister about it and she made an impulse buy: a sandwich toaster. Blonde Morticia, Sharpening is to create the sharp edge, honing is to maintain that edge. Sharpening knives takes the right tools: stones or mechanism. It's an art. I use the steel for kitchen knives and a leather strop for woodcarving tools. Unless you want to learn how to sharpen, it would be worthwhile to find a good knife sharpening service and just use the steel, which is easier to use correctly, to keep the edge. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at March 11, 2025 11:20 PM (RlOnk) Watch a few videos. It's not hard to learn. You can get a two-sided stone for best results. First side would be between 600-800 grit - good for dull knives. Use the second side of 1000-2000 to put a finer edge, or maintain one on already sharp knives. Progressives as a rule are pretty dumb, as somebody pointed out, they haven’t had to debate in decades. They don’t have a command of the facts. Or history. In fact (oh so convenient!) they have outright rejected facts, logic, and reason, in favor of emotional, thought ending cliches and slogans.
Even back in the day I could always clean their clock handily. One of the best skills you can teach friends and family, particularly young people is the formal rules of rhetoric and debate. Logical Fallacies. Obviously no one can become an expert in numerous fields, so we have to use other cues in our daily lives to weigh ideas, and gauge the truthiness of people. What do they want? What are they really trying to do? Once you become adept at spotting logic faults, it is impossible not to notice them, and the “news” programs and politicians especially rarely speak clearly and lie as easily as breathing. Their parlor tricks, their schtick is dependent on the listener being unaware of the games they are playing. Education or schooling, the credentials - this is part of the scam. I’m not anti-intellectual, far from it. But there are nothing but imposters as far as the eye can see. Posted by: Common Tater at March 12, 2025 12:13 AM (zh/Tt) 270

It might even have been a contender for the prize. Regardless, I bet what they did to him boosted his sales more than the competition itself would have. Posted by: Taq, Rickrolled by Jesus at March 12, 2025 12:51 AM (CljNn) 300

Interestingly, they think that's why Ivermectin and Fenbendazole and those types of anti parasitic drugs can help with cancer. It's not that they necessarily think parasites are causing the cancer, it's that the drugs have a specific effect on the immune system that makes it hard ( impossible, in some cases) for the cancer to grow.

I'm not defending it, I am merely saying that it might not be as nefarious as it sounds. And I don't even know why I say that, because all this stuff has turned out to be nefarious af! 😂 The level of stupid it would take to instruct your staff, via email, no less, to engage in the unauthorized destruction of Federal records leads me to believe tthat it's not anything suspicious, but, then again, we have certainly seen some crazy shite of late! Hi Puddlegum. I was asking Trump to spread the deep state far and wide the first go around. I had great soliloquies about it here. I guess he is not playing around this time. It sucks people are being fired, but it just had to happen. I always looked at it from a Virginia standpoint. It was never right that the federal government made it so impossible for Virginians to vote for Virginia.
The federal government should be reduced drastically, but also spread around the country. Power should not be in one area that never suffers the problems the rest of the country does. And as someone who lived in the DC area, most of his life, I know for a fact that that is exactly the way it has been. Posted by: Quint at March 12, 2025 03:20 AM (DUt83) 381

Maryland is long gone, it will always be a lefty state because that’s where the leftist move. I knew there was a problem in Virginia years ago when half the people I met on the street, barely knew that they lived in Virginia. The modern term is the DMV, which is the stupidest term you could ever come up with. A generation whatever use that term the DMV is where you go to get a new license plate.
But the term serves a purpose, the people there eschew state identity. It is a government town and business used to be good. If they only keep the best of them and get rid of the flotsam, we will be better off. Posted by: Quint at March 12, 2025 03:27 AM (DUt83) 383

As a former rust belt kid, I understand that there is no such thing as a forever job. Lots of people in Babylon DC are now finding that out. Not everyone losing jobs are frothing at the mouth proggies. FYI. The Bible has a verse about the 'rain falls on the just and the unjust'.

Well my Stolen Valor torture took a sudden humorous turn today that was probably the only way I would see how silly the whole thing is - Sarah Hoyt claimed that since I identify as a "former Marine" that can only mean I was never in the Marines, or was booted out, or was a Marine in some country other than the United States...
I really wish people would just stay in their lane. Ya know, as despicable as the stolen valor shtbirds are to me, at least they care enough about whatever thing (Seal, Ranger, Recon, ParaRescue) they wish they were to do the resesarch and get 99% of it right. So it appears Sarah Hoyt has taught me two valuable lessons 1) the Instapundit community are a bunch of treacherous weasels not to be trusted and 2) stolen valor shtbirds do have one redeeming quality I now appreciate. Unbelievable. Hey it's win. I don't need to get satisfaction because I no longer take her seriously. And no one died. Yay. I now I rest. Although I should prob help square her away before she calls out some PTSD case and gets her head blown off. Yeah this will be fun. Maybe I can point her to Grok to soften the blow. PJ media, Rosy O'Donnell is decamping to Ireland
Until it's safe to come back Posted by: Skip i at March 12, 2025 03:40 AM (fwDg9) 387
Fen, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. If you were in the Marine Corps., and then got out, well-- you're really *not* a Marine any longer.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know..."once a Marine, always a Marine" blahblah. Whatever. You do you. Posted by: JQ at March 12, 2025 03:43 AM (rdVOm) 388
Rosie O'Donnell isn't safe from Rosie O'Donnell. Going to Ireland won't help.

Suppose I just pissed off a bunch of Horde Marines?
Well, don't take it personally. I'm a civilian. Posted by: JQ at March 12, 2025 03:54 AM (rdVOm) 392
Howdy and a good Woden's Day morning, fellow insomaniacals!
Odd that our ONT host should ask about exercising. I had no New Year resolution in that respect; I've been a workout dude in one way or another since the '70s. It is hard to muster the motivation now and then. Like, uh, right now. Possibly because I've done the same basic thing and traversed the same route in my run/walk for some years. I'm waiting to join a gym again until I retire and see how long until I can relocate. Then I'll need to find one there. How does your Wed. look? Morning, JQ! How are things in the high dry NW?

Very late, or very early depending on how you look at it...
"A number of authors pulled their books from consideration of the award/competition. Heh." Good. Glad to see this shift away from the hectoring ninnies being able to hurt an author by dictating what they attitudes said author can hold and express. Just judge the book by the quality of its content. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at March 12, 2025 03:58 AM (O7YUW) 396
Not so dry.. getting some rain these days.

I am not sure what I’m getting into here, but is Fen the same as Feneloscope? I know I spelled it wrong. I haven’t been around in a while.
What exactly is the issue? I know Marines often use particular term such as former Marine, ex Marine etc. I went to a college where that was also a touchy subject. Terms are supposed to bring us together not tear us apart. I was army, but I know a lot about the Marine Corps. More than anyone who was not a Marine should ever know lol Posted by: Quint at March 12, 2025 04:10 AM (DUt83) 401
I just realized I bought that name my apologies there.
