Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Doomcock Was WRONG: Narcissistic Incomptent Kathleen Kennedy Calls Her Media Supplicants to Tell Them "I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE, EVER! I'M RIDING THIS BOMB ALL THE WAY DOWN!!!"For the first time in ten years, people allowed themselves to hope for the future of LucasFilm. Kaffeine Kennedy can't have that. I think Clownfish TV said that this particular "reporter" is a dyed-in-the-wool Disney shill and a Kathleen Kennedy shill specifically. If you don't believe Clownfish, check out this opening labial ball-washing:I thought I'd seen it all in trade journalism, but the piranha-like frenzy on Kathleen Kennedy and the successor speculation that followed Matt Belloni's Puck report that Disney was putting her out to pasture is a new one on me. Belloni for years has been beating on Kennedy like she owes him money, and this week he reported Kennedy was retiring. I recall he essentially did the same thing more than a year ago, and yet here she still is, producing The Mandalorian movie and prepping the Shawn Levy-directed Star Wars film that Ryan Gosling is circling, as well as numerous other film and streaming projects with A-list participants.Really? It didn't seem like your make-it-up-on-the-day sequel trilogy had a plan. ... DEADLINE: I recall these same retirement predictions were rendered a while ago, and you reupped and here you are. What do you make of this fixation on your job status? KENNEDY: I truly don't know. And any discussion previously about me retiring or quitting or any of those things, that's complete rumor mill because through all these reports, I have just continued doing my job and continuing my contract. Nothing unusual. It all has just been manufactured.I can explain why people talk about this: Because everyone's shocked she wasn't fired eight years ago. And we all know why she wasn't: She wears the +3 Ring of DEI Protection and the +2 Vest of Post-#MeToo Eternal Job Security for Stronk Women. This just in: Star Wars toys are rotting on the shelves at discounters like Ollie's because no one under 40 cares about Star Wars any longer. Not a single question about The Acoylte. She keeps bringing up The Mandalorian, which was briefly a success before she ordered it be improved to appeal to The Modern Audience. On to The Toxic Fandom. Or Toxic Former Fandom. She babbles about all the obviously-canceled projects she announced, insisting they're all still in development. (No word on Rion Johnon's or Patty Jenkin's movies, though.) She insists that Taika Watiti is still working on a Star Wars movie, even after he puked up Thor: Love and Thunder. KENNEDY: Well, I keep waiting for Taika [Waititi], and he is working with another writer now. He's so busy. I love him. I think if we ever do get a script from Taika, it's going to be fantastic. I already saw a first act that I loved, but tying him down, it's tricky. DEADLINE: I still remember seeing his Thor: Ragnarok, entering with low expectations, watching his exuberant vision and thinking, "This is what you want when you go to a movie theater on a Saturday night." KENNEDY: It's so true. And that's exactly the tone we're always looking for with filmmakers who can pull that off. It's not like they're a dime a dozen. You're really trying to find the diamond in the rough and he's one of them. ... DEADLINE: Any regrets? KENNEDY: No, I mean far from regrets.... DEADLINE: Two final questions. Will you step out as Lucasfilm boss this year? KENNEDY: We really don't know at this stage. There's so much going on, Mike. I don't know. DEADLINE: When it happens, who'll make the decision? KENNEDY: Me. It's my decision. This is 100 percent my decision.TJM sees this as a deniadmission: She's admitting she's looking for a successor, who she thinks will be named by the end of the year, but still casts this as a denial that she's leaving LucasFilm, for some egotistical reason: She admits in this very interview that she's putting together a succession plan that will take effect by about the end of the year. "Kennedy added: "What's happening at Lucasfilm is I have been talking for quite some time with both Bob and Alan about what eventual succession might look like. We have an amazing bench of people here, and we have every intention of making an announcement months or a year down the road.'" She confirms the report in this interview that's being billed as a counter to the report. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, watching B-movies with Roger CormanMeanwhile, Captain America is such a bomb that it's literally collapsing the movie theaters it's shown in.
Marvel's latest release, Captain America: Brave New World, has faced a steep decline in its second weekend, yet it is on track to cross the $300 million milestone globally. Starring Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford, the film saw a 68.3% drop in the US and a 61.8% decline internationally, signaling a sluggish run despite a strong start. Was it strong? It made 87.5 million over four days (Thurs-Sun) in its opening weekend. This is not strong for a would-be blockbuster. It is just barely crawling over the $300 million worldwide box office line, which means it will probably not make anywhere close to $400 million in total.
====== This would be okay...if Cap4 only cost $180 million. It wouldn't be making a profit in theaters, but once home video and any licensing deals are factored it, it'd be a small, insignificant win. Nothing to write home about. But, it definitely cost a whole lot more. Marvel didn't suddenly get far more efficient in its production pipeline with this movie that had literally months of reshoots. $380 million is the low-end. New California bill would make self-defense illegal
http://bit.ly/43iAai3 ‘Riverside County sheriff and gubernatorial candidate Chad Bianco says a recently introduced bill in the California State Assembly would “make self-defense against criminals illegal.” AB 1333 was introduced by Assembly Member Rick Zbur of Santa Monica on Feb. 21. According to the California Legislative Information website, the bill seeks to “eliminate certain circumstances under which homicide is justifiable, including, among others, in defense of a habitation or property.” The description goes on to say that “the bill would additionally clarify circumstances in which homicide is not justifiable, including, among others, when a person uses more force than necessary to defend against a danger.” Posted by: BetaCuck4Lyfe at February 28, 2025 04:39 PM (oM9kc) 57

KENNEDY: What you just said, though, is so interesting to me, Mike, because that is the development. It doesn't matter if you're doing Star Wars or anything else. What's troubling and frustrating is that our development gets scrutinized, and I don't know any other production company where their development gets scrutinized like that. It's very hard for anything to happen within Star Wars without some aspect of it becoming public before you even want it to become public.

AB 1333 was introduced by Assembly Member Rick Zbur of Santa Monica on Feb. 21.
According to the California Legislative Information website, the bill seeks to “eliminate certain circumstances under which homicide is justifiable, including, among others, in defense of a habitation or property.” The description goes on to say that “the bill would additionally clarify circumstances in which homicide is not justifiable, including, among others, when a person uses more force than necessary to defend against a danger.” Posted by: BetaCuck4Lyfe at February 28, 2025 ---- I used to live in California. Elon is talking about how the social security fraud works.
Essentially, as far as he can tell, there are 20 million + people who SSA thinks are alive who are dead. Some are getting SS payments, but the bigger fraud is that people are using those SSN's to collect unemployment, go on SSDI, commit medicare / medicaid fraud, etc. What he has not mentioned yet is that it's very likely those SSNs are also being used by illegals. Anyways, Social Security refuses to clean up their databases so that's his next battle. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at February 28, 2025 05:01 PM (uCjyK) 140

We saw "Moonstruck" with Cher, Nicholas Cage and a bunch of great character actors. Great script, great acting, great directing. You'lll smile through the whole thing. Then last night we saw "Crossing Delancey", which isn't quite as charming since it gives us the old "I don't need no man" bit as one of the complications. It stars, well I forget their names but it stars Steven Spielberg's one-time wife, one of the Animal House guys and the guy who played a Russian in a James Bond movie. You mile through this one too, and- BONUS! Has a wonderful moment where the JB Russian guy recites a Chinese poem to SS's wife. A great bit of setting up the movie plot and giving us a peak into the main character's life. Great stuff. Both movies are streaming on Criterion now. But, can bee found elsewhere. We laugh and call them boondoggles and say "boy Biden sure is stupid to send $1 billion to these green energy companies who don't ever even make a product!" When in reality, no one was stupid. Everyone involved knows what's going here. There was never going to be a product. It was just a way to launder $1 billion. I decided to read the Heir to the Empire trilogy for the first time since high school.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, watching B-movies with Roger Corman at February 28, 2025 04:42 PM (GBKbO) It's pretty good for a post-ROTJ story, definitely a lot better than Kevin J. Anderson's insane Jedi Academy trilogy which came later. It has a few cringe moments and leaps of logic, but is overall solid, has decent plotting and additions to the universe, and the new characters like Mara Jade and Garm Bel Iblis feel like they'd fit right into the original trilogy. The fanbase in general rate it way too highly, though. You're not reading a literary masterpiece on par with War and Peace, but that's how they talk about it. There are examples of excellent Warhammer 40k books that are also excellent sci-fi books (check out Horus Rising). The old Star Wars EU that they decanonized was good sci-fi pulp, but never really rose above that. Also I dropped out of it right before the whole New Jedi Order arc, which was widely hated at the time but is now beloved. Posted by: MrUNIVAC at February 28, 2025 05:15 PM (digQz) 211

From domino theories to defending democracy to wars on drugs and terror to, well, everything else. We have been spending at war-like levels since WWII. I think the US intel agencies knew damn well that the USSR was not in any way an economic or military peer or threat to the US, but they had to hype the threat of nuclear winter to keep the money flowing for all of those years.
