Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Meet The PetMorons

goosey ey.jpg

Hiya,
This is Gustav Isodore Garcia also known as Goosey. He looks serene and benign in the photo but he's a wreckless jumper and shoelace devotee. We love him madly.

You can call me SNAB or Whip Saw.

When in repose, Gustav (Goosey) looks well-loved. It is hard to tell he's a wreckless jumper and shoelace devotee, but we have seen this type of behavior emerge from a serene cat before . . .

Hello my father is a long time lurker, we have read the pet thread for many years together. My cat Jellybean passed over the rainbow bridge last December and I was hoping you could add her to an upcoming thread. Thank you for taking your time to read this email.

Daughter of Sonofsamthebutcher

Jellybean is a gorgeous cat. So sorry that you and your family have lost her. Thanks for sharing the lovely photo of her.

Americans love Ricky! What a gorgeous bird.

This is Archie (the mighty Westie). He is almost 13, and is mostly just a mighty sleeper now. He is very wise (for a dog) and used to run with all the bigger dogs and nuzzle with the ladies and little girls in the neighborhood. Thanks for the weekly thread!

Jim in Charlotte

Awwww . . . Archie has captured my heart.

patrick border col.jpg

Longtime lurker, love the pet thread. This is Patrick our border collie, having a good time in the snow we just got in ohio. Super high energy, so I walk him 2 or 3 times a day and play with him in between constantly. Good for him, good for me. Moved to Ohio a year ago from mn to be closer to spouses parents. In mn, we had goats, Patrick really misses them, loved keeping them in their place.

Patrick looks like he loves to be active. It makes sense that he misses the goats.

Don't know if this counts or not since they aren't technically our pets, but for Valentine's day, Mr. B and I went to a goat happy hour, an event at a farm where you just get to hang out and play with a dozen goats. They also offer goat yoga but we're not into that. It was very cold but fun, the goats were inquisitive, friendly and liked being petted.

MammaB

Well, I guess they are sort of part-time pets. Fun! Interesting idea for farmers who like to interact with city folk.

18 Archie is adorable. I originally suspected my dog may be part Westie but I did a DNA test and it said she was half mini schnauzer, poodle and rat terrier.
When I first found her her fur was all white but when I had her groomed she has brown/tan spots on her back.

I'm really enjoying the spirited terrier breed. They're very brave and good little hunters.

She's very stubborn though, doesn't want to listen.

19 After two days of not wanting to enter the bedroom at all, Reef has now started sprinting in as soon as I open the door, and like this running slide under the bed. He then comes to the foot of the bed and pokes his nose out.

It's pretty hilarious.

23 Boxer eyes--oh yes!

A couple of years ago we spent a lot of time dogsitting SiL's white boxer. I used to say she doesn't beg for food--she "guilts" for food. Looked at you with those melting brown eyes. Few could resist.

She's crossed the Rainbow Bridge now but we still miss that very special girl.

25 12 Sounds legit. I am surprised horror movie directors don't have the FX department CGI goat eyes into their villian's face.

(Why, oh why, dear Lord in Heaven, does autocucumber want to change "villian's" to "Lillian's"? When I was two thirds of the way through typing the word, "villian" was a suggested autocomplete. Is it really astonishing that somebody might sometime make that word a possessive? Hell, villians are well known to be overly possesive. Do better. BTW, thank you to my copy editor for catching that before I posted. As a reward, I shall remove one thumbscrew.)

28 Okay, this may befit the thread: youtu.be/IXgVW0ng2CA
This proposes that domestic foxes (which exist in Russia, not here) can be used to find people buried in avalanches or rubble.
As house pets, foxes might not work, because they like to chew on wiring and otherwise break into cabinets they shouldn't. (Dogs and cats can generally be trained not to do this.) But in a K-9 unit for rescue, they could work.

29 Howdy and good afternoon, Pet Folken!

From his initials, Snab, Goosey could also be known as Gig, as in Young. And Daughter of Sonofsamthebutcher, Jellybean looks in his photo much as my current black roommate Stirling does. Stirling had a single white whisker when he was small; I told him it spoiled his looks, he was flawed and had to go back, etc. None of which bothered him -- he goes by my tone of voice and my actions. The whisker fell out on its own after a month or so and hasn't returned.

Posted by: nurse ratched at February 22, 2025 04:12 PM (68lhN)

33 Is there really a thing called "goat yoga"? I always thought it was something on the same order of a coffee table book I saw years ago called Why Cats Paint. It suggested, deadpan, that cats have a long-submerged urge to daub paint on their paws and then onto canvas, and analyzed their motives as academics do (i.e., to death, using abstract words galore).

Howdy, Pet Threaders. Temperatures finally above freezing today. Snow is starting to melt. Daisy the madcap Malinois had a good time chasing a ball, but sure was sloppy wet and muddy when done.

Jeans work great. When I finally move to a cooler climate, I fully intend to buy some flannel-lined jeans, both for outdoors and for cat lap times.

Big black Stirling is up here with me, hinting he wants the lap. If I let him have it, I won't be able to type. Oh, well.

Well, then, I have Cat Calisthenics. Little Dagny trots around me and bumps her head against me, and tries to chew my hair occasionally, while I'm on the floor doing crunches and stretches. It's about the only time she does anything resembling affection. I think she likes it because I'm down on her level instead of being so much taller and higher up.

My late part-Coon, Arizona the big red tabby, never liked having other cats in his territory. He ignored the Siamese kitten Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 adopted when he, AZ, was three; he disliked Li'l Bit, my mother's dilute calico, whom I rescued when Mom passed on; and he hissed at and ignored the ultra-friendly black Marie-Antoinette.

I've been lucky with other pairings, though, that the incumbents accepted the second cat or kitten. (Stirling was precocious. He wanted to get next to little Dagny when he first met her, even though she was way too young to know what he was about. We had to separate them until he was altered!)
