The Morning Report — 1/30/25

warreneedle.jpg

Good morning kids. The big story this morning is out of DC, but it's not politics. Late last night an American Airlines jet collided with an Army helicopter near Reagan National airport, over the Potomac River. This is sadly now being called a mass casualty event. Prayers for the victims and loved ones. While of course, the focus is on rescue and recovery, given everything going on over the past several months, in terms of both the drone sightings, the questioning of competency of individuals in critical skilled professions and the military because of the destructive and corrosive nature of DEI, and of course the possibility of terrorism, not only in the wake of the current situation in Gaza/Lebanon/Syria and Yemen that ultimately leads to Iran but the open border and the threat to us in the wake of and well before 9/11/01.

Unfortunately, because of all of the aforementioned madness, an incident like this makes all of it come to mind when the reality is, the crash could just be plain old human error or some random failure/glitch somewhere, and not something nefarious. Mercifully, on a national level and by all appearances on the local level, the situation is not being dealt with by the likes of Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom.

Can you imagine?!

California homeowners are facing an unprecedented crisis. And the crisis is as much of a political disaster as it is a natural one. While some blame global warming for worsening this latest disaster, it is the corrupt politics of the state’s political majority that is the real issue.
California’s Democrat majority has sent the state down into a chain of crises, from crime to homelessness to droughts and disasters, worsening natural crises and manufacturing human crises, raising endless taxes and bonds with the promise of finally solving them only to corruptly loot the money for special interests, politically connected allies and into their own pockets.
Now, as California desperately needs to save its insurance market, the ex-illegal alien in a position to shape the state’s response may become its latest official indicted for corruption.

waiting for someone in DC, is it still that hideous slag Muriel Bowser?, to blame Climate change and White Supremacy.

Fire Department says 300 first responders are are carrying out a “highly complex operation.
- This flight route from Kansas direct to Reagan National (DCA) has only been operating for about a year.
- Airport Authority says crews are providing support to families. American Airlines set up rooms for families and counselors. “We are in a rescue mode.”
- Both aircraft are in the water. Divers are working both aircraft
- 64 people were on the American Airlines flight, and three crew members were on the helicopter.
- FAA and NTSB will be conducting the investigation.
- American Airlines number for family members is 1-800-679-8215.

Sen. Roger Marshall said, “When one person dies it’s a tragedy, but when many, many, many people die it’s an unbearable sorrow.” No deaths were confirmed by officials during the press conference.
- Washington Fire Chief John Donnelly said the water is “dark and murky.
. . . ABC News reports this is the first major commercial crash in the United States since 2009. The last crash involved Colgan Air Flight 3407, which crashed near Buffalo, New York. Late Wednesday night, President Trump posted his thoughts on the circumstances surrounding the tragic crash. “What a terrible night this has been. God bless you all!,” the president stated.

And with that, as the President himself might say, we'll have to just wait and see how this situation shakes out in terms of the cause and how best to prevent a repeat. All things considered, to not have a major air crash here in the US for 16 years, given the number of aircraft in the air at any given time, is still kind of amazing to consider.

The other big story, was the confirmation hearing for RFK Jr. in which he not only made especially the Democrat Senators on the panel look like idiots but in his own way exposed them as the hypocrites they are by in essence revealing them to be stooges, shills and completely in the in the pocket of Big Pharma.

As Megyn Kelly notes:

“His opponents didn’t get it. Even some of the Republicans didn’t get it. But for the most part, they did well, the Republican senators. A couple, which I’ll go over, were annoying,” Kelly said. “But the Democrats once again made fools out of themselves. They made fools out of themselves. In the same way they keep looking at Trump and saying, ‘Hitler, Nazi, fascist, convicted felon.’ And everybody’s like, ‘Screw you, we have a country to save.’ That’s how I felt today watching them go after RFK [Jr.].” “His opponents didn’t get it. Even some of the Republicans didn’t get it. But for the most part, they did well, the Republican senators. A couple, which I’ll go over, were annoying,” Kelly said. “But the Democrats once again made fools out of themselves. They made fools out of themselves. In the same way they keep looking at Trump and saying, ‘Hitler, Nazi, fascist, convicted felon.’ And everybody’s like, ‘Screw you, we have a country to save.’ That’s how I felt today watching them go after RFK [Jr.].”

So, do they hate RFK Jr. simply because Trump picked him, or because he agreed to be Trump's pick, some combo of both or because his stances are a threat to their power, influence and access to the trough, which actually is a central pillar of the MAGA movement, the upending of the tables of the moneychangers and restoration of the power of the people back to the people. Ditto every other nominee and of course every single one of us who voted for him to do what he said he would, twit: "drain the swamp."

And the Trump effect is or potentially could be that more and more people are now aware that there is a swamp, its malign intentions and then its breadth and depth. Here's to four years of Trump exactly like his first "orgasmatronic" (yes that is a word as I have confirmed on our latest podcast episode linked here and the sidebar)

10 days and then the next 8 years of Vance followed on by 8 more years of whoever is his running mate? Any guesses or am I tempting fate here?

So, evidently President Trump is sending illegal alien criminals to Gitmo! While he's at it, he needs to make room for miscreant traitors like this:

Security agents escorted the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) out of her office Monday after she refused to comply with her firing by President Donald Trump, Reuters first reported.

Phyllis Fong, a 22-year veteran of the department, reportedly earlier informed colleagues of her intention to stay, arguing in an email obtained by the outlet that Trump’s termination orders “do not comply with the requirements set out in law and therefore are not effective at this time.”

The White House terminated Fong along with 16 other federal inspectors general via email Friday. The USDA inspector general position carries broad oversight authority within the agency, with jurisdiction over all programs, personnel and operations under the USDA’s umbrella, from farm subsidies to food safety regulations.

I prefer Kam Fong as Chin Ho, and Zulu as Kono myself.

Have a great day.

And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know.

61 >>WTF would we want to pay to house 30,000 illegals at Gitmo?

Trump issued so many EOs over the first couple of days I think a lot of things are getting lost in all the action. Trump didn't just announce he was going to be sending illegals home and sealing the border, he instructed the State Dept. to begin the work to designate Tren de Aragua, MS-13 and the Mexican cartels as international terrorist organizations. Because they are. Tren de Aragua works for the Maduro regime. They are state sponsored terrorists.

That changes everything. We don't send border patrol to fight Hezbollah or al Qaeda, we send the military. It's one thing to deport some landscapers or hotel maids but terrorists are a different matter.

66 So, do they hate RFK Jr....

My take on the modern Congress is that they exist to identify, demonize, and perpetuate problems that plague the American people.

The healthcare crisis exists in this country. The left blames a lack of socialized medicine - as if 80% of the healthcare dollars in this country don't come from the government already - while the right blames government policies - not unfairly but missing a couple big picture items.

Congress doesn't want issues solved. They want Americans to be emotional, but divided on the issues.

RFKJ desires to make people healthy, not "fix the medical-industrial-complex". This threatens the people who've become wealthy off this mess. And those people own politicians. He proposes solutions. And solutions are not tolerated.

The jet was stabilized and on approach. Flying straight and descending. Anti-collision lights on, landing lights on. You would think even Stevie Wonder would see such a plane at night.

Sure it was a 'common' thing for the helicopter to zip across which the flight track shows. But I have a feeling we need to examine previous flights that used it to see if perhaps the helicopter turned too soon.

Or for some reason the helicopter crew got fooled as to where the passenger jet was.

Most chilling of all is if they had fallen into a pattern, knew what they were doing, and did not practice 'see and avoid.'

    99 From X:

"I was a Blackhawk helicopter crew chief in the Army. I was even a Flight Instructor. This means that I trained Crew Chiefs and ensured that they completed all training annually to maintain their flight ratings.

One massive responsibility we had was to be the eyes for the pilots. We handled airspace obstacle avoidance and communicated potential risks to the pilots. Quite often we would train as a flight of 2 or 3 birds flying in formation.

It was my job to have my head out the window and tell the pilots that the aircraft behind us was "staggered right at 3 discs". (We measured close distances in terms of the diameter of our rotor discs).

I can tell you after doing this for hundreds of hours, even when you know EXACTLY where a Blackhawk is, and you have night vision goggles on, it is EXTREMELY hard to SEE the aircraft.
These birds are designed to be hard to see at night.

The red and green lights on the side get lost in the lights of the city below. The only "lights" on top of the aircraft are called "slime lights" because they are a very very very dim green.
    Incredibly difficult to see."

110 Trump must be held accountable for the crash in DC. Members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee received a memo Tuesday saying that the department is eliminating the membership of all advisory committees as part of a “commitment to eliminating the misuse of resources and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security.”

The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won’t have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports...

Additionally, On Tuesday, the US office of personnel management (OPM) sent nearly all of its 3 million employees an email offering them deferred resignations and warning that, if they choose to stay, they may be laid off or reassigned.

So, it's Trump's fault because he is reassigning or ending a safety advisory board, and offered to let fed employees have a deferred resignation? Got it. Lol. The Left is REALLY going to reach on this one, fail, and it will distract from everything else Trump's doing.

    111 Yonder Horde.

Regarding the accident near DCA... the military aircraft "PAT25" was using a standard call sign. "PAT" is "Priority Air Transport". Priority can be anything... personnel or cargo or mail. There were reportedly 3 people on board. Two nominally are required to operate a H-60.

But it could also have been carrying a case of toilet paper.

Depending of what was the "priority" of that flight.

It was also flying without a transponder in a mode that could be "seen" by others. Not unusual, but in the highly conflicted airspace around DCA it is... questionable.

Early days but... as near as I can piece together:

    - Army helicopter was on a training flight - I suspect this will be a factor
    - Army helicopter needed to cross Reagan final approach path - supposedly, this is normal
    - Army helicopter was told by ATC to cross behind jet

One thing I hadn't really thought about is that as he says Blackhawks are designed to be hard to see at night particularly in an urban environment.

His plane was actually in approach to the airport and they pulled up and got diverted to Dulles. He's with us now for the next few days. He said it was bedlam at Dulles with all the diverted flights and nowhere for them to go. He sat for over 3 hours on the tarmac until they could get a gate.

My heart breaks for those on that plane and in that helicopter, and for their families. May God rest their souls.

People's blindness to stuff like this...irritates me.

I was thinking back to four years ago and calls for Republicans to tank every Biden nominee. And then, now, the Senate must pass every Trump nominee because Trump deserves it.

Regarding blaming all the bad things remotely related to the executive branch, the "Thanks Obama" thing was usually half-joke from what I saw, same with "Thanks Biden". We were quick to blame things like DEI for things like the airplane losing a door midflight (which seems to have been...the actual reason for decreased safety protocols and training at Boeing), but at least in this tiny circle of the internet, I always saw the "Thanks Biden" stuff as half-joke. Kind of like a random celebrity dying and then saying "Another grim milestone for the Biden administration".

I'm sure there are those on our side who would blame something like this directly on Biden personally. I just don't see it much earnestly here.

That's because progressives believe - as an article of faith - that all money inherently belongs to the government. They don't have any problem with the fact that the government doesn't have a single dollar that it did not first take - at gunpoint - from someone with a job.

275 261. Blackhawk training expert, said that night vision goggles reduce your field of vision to 40%. Also, while not unusual, there were only three people on the Blackhawk instead of four which means one side of the Blackhawk had reduced reporting.. the extra crew members all look out their assigned side of the Blackhawk so minus one is 25% less reporting of other planes, etc.

Posted by: Additional Blond Agent, STEM Guy at January 30, 2025 08:54 AM (/HDaX)

Maybe not a distraction, but definitely would wash out with enough light input.

The lights from a civilian plane on short final can be seen from something like three miles out.

I'm 99% in the 'pilot error on the part of the -60 driver,' camp. Timing the impact intentionally is so difficult as to be statistically impossible. The plane was in the glide slope at 150mph or so. The helo was crossing at about 80mph, at 90 degrees to the plane. Lining that up, at night, in three dimensions, at speed... Not really doable, particularly with only one pass.

This reads like a horrible accident, the final piece of which was pilot error.

347 Dam Finally Breaking on Media Coverage of Stolen Election. And it's not just the stolen election: It's that we have a credible, experienced elected representative questioning it. Dan Goldman, former AUSA in the Southern District of New York. He was also lead counsel in both of the Trump Impeachment trials.

Trump is delighting in telling people to their face that he rigged the 2024 election, under the guise of referring to the 2020 election. Understood in the context of the fascist playbook: the goal is to constantly make us question what we are experiencing with our own senses.

I hope there is substance to an investigation. This election seemed smelly from the start. If it stinks like poo, it probably is poo.

We must be able to ask questions considering Trump’s history. no way trump won all the swing states. They, and probably musk, have figured out how to manipulate ballots.

Just to clarify, the research work is being done by the groups "Smart Elections" and "Election Truth Alliance".

Newsweek was iffy for a while. I have noticed a big improvement in their coverage for some time now. Let's hope more media follows!

    Our concerns on 2020:

"Mail in ballots are unsecure. There was a shut down in ballot counting in six states related to a water pipe burst in Atlanta where poll watchers were forced out of locations and then counting started again. Any question of election integrity was treated as insurrection by those in power."

The helo was a VH-60 variant assigned to Fort Belvoir (Company B, 12th Aviation Battalion) with the callsign PAT25. PAT means Priority Air Transport; these helos are used for moving VIPs around for DoD. There was a pretty good freakout when the accident occurred because it was unknown if there was a high-ranking official on board. My speculation is (and it's purely speculation) that they dropped someone off at Langley and the return trip to Belvoir was then considered to be a training flight.

Posted by: Pudinhead at January 30, 2025 09:27 AM (Wg6v7)

He's in the Public Health Service.

It seems weird for them to be a uniformed service, but it dates back to the days when more personnel were killed by diseases than enemy action. Giving the public health guys uniforms and ranks kept them from being shot as spies, should they be captured.

NOAA has a uniformed branch, too. That one descends through the US Geological Survey. Those guys have been making maps and charts in combat areas for a long, long time. They were on the beach in Normandy two weeks before D-Day. Once again, being caught drawing maps doesn't end well if you're not wearing a uniform.

440 We have constitutional carry here. No permit of any kind required to carry, openly or concealed.

We do have a permit available, but the only thing that gets you is reciprocity with some other states.

444 Both aircraft were flying standard routes. Listen to the audio. This is an ATC screwup. They failed to notify the 60 of the approaching aircraft. They failed to properly notify aircraft of a collision.

The 60 also doesn’t have a great field of view based on that angle of approach, NVG or not. Ask a few of the CWO’s who post here.

449 There are calls up-thread to limit Reagan/National to big-wigs. I see the airport as an important way to get people from outside DC in and out without getting anything splashed on them. Driving was more than a half day, so morning meetings required an overnight stay. Driving out of DC at rush hour can add an additional 2 hours, and then arriving home hours after bed-time is dangerous. It is easy to arrive at Reagan around 8:AM and then take the subway to a 9:00 meeting anywhere in DC, well except for NIST which is way up in Gaithersburg.
Same for leaving. Most meetings in DC are done by 3:00 or 3:30, and it is easy to get out on the circa 6:00 flights. Going through Baltimore or Dulles, the schedule is more difficult.
DCA makes it possible for those not in the permanent DC crowd, and not on Big Lobbyist budgets to participate in US government.

451 25 The video shows that the helicopter crashed into the airplane. Did I get that wrong?

The jet was ATC-cleared and stabilized on a final approach to the runway, so it was exactly where it was supposed to be. The real question is not who hit whom, but why the helicopter was flying across the approach path, precisely at the altitude an approaching aircraft would be at, at that distance from the runway!

Somebody effed up, either the chopper pilot or ATC or both. The airliner appears blameless.
