Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Wednesday Morning RantOver the past eight years, I have been tested and challenged more than any president in our 250 year history, and I've learned a lot along the way the journey to reclaim our republic has not been an easy one that I can tell you. That quote from his inaugural address is an extremely good sign. "I know how you operate, I know your tricks, I know your schemes, and your old playbook ain't gonna work this time" is a promising indicator to say the least. There was more from the inaugural address that bodes well in terms of attitude and approach: My recent election has a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal, and all of these many betrayals that have taken place, and to give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy, and indeed, their freedom. That is not putting to fine a point on it. Starkly presenting the system as it was - and sadly, as it is and as it will remain for some time - to underscore his mandate and ambitions is also a good sign. But there have been direct actions so far that give me hope that he might be able to accomplish something in terms of wresting control of the bureaus away from the Party men. From his victory speech after the inauguration: I will implement an immediate regulation freeze which will stop Biden bureaucrats from continuing to regulate. Most of those bureaucrats are being fired, they're gone. ... I'll also issue a temporary hiring freeze to ensure that we're only hiring competent people who are faithful to the American public, ...Those EOs are now in effect. The regulatory freeze reads in part: Do not propose or issue any rule in any manner, including by sending a rule to the Office of the Federal Register (the "OFR"), until a department or agency head appointed or designated by the President after noon on January 20, 2025, reviews and approves the rule.along with this absurd component that shouldn't be necessary: Comply in all circumstances with any applicable Executive Orders concerning regulatory management. The hiring freeze reads in part: I hereby order a freeze on the hiring of Federal civilian employees, to be applied throughout the executive branch. As part of this freeze, no Federal civilian position that is vacant at noon on January 20, 2025, may be filled, and no new position may be created except as otherwise provided for in this memorandum or other applicable law. These EOs are, in my opinion, extremely important in terms of the power struggle within the bureaus. It remains to be seen how effective they will be and how much compliance Trump can force down the throats of the agencies and what the consequences will be for the inevitable obstruction, dodging and outright disobedience from the #Resist set, but these are excellent moves to take right out of the gate. "The crap you pushed through or are about to is all canceled. There will be no more of you people hired. We're taking control and you are all on hold until we impose our will. Everything you are working on is on hold. You will sit in your offices and do nothing until we figure out what to do with you." That is a good thing. The obstructionists and those doing the Party's business are forbidden from doing what they do for the time being, and presumably Trump will have some recourse against those who disobey him. And the EO hits keep coming in furtherance of the attempt to prevent cronyism once the hiring freeze is lifted: (b) This Federal Hiring Plan shall: (i) prioritize recruitment of individuals committed to improving the efficiency of the Federal government, passionate about the ideals of our American republic, and committed to upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution; (ii) prevent the hiring of individuals based on their race, sex, or religion, and prevent the hiring of individuals who are unwilling to defend the Constitution or to faithfully serve the Executive Branch; If he can enforce it, no more Party Man shoe-ins. Or at least, fewer of them. Good. The civil service is supposed to be professional, right? Go for merit. The SES is is on notice, too. (c) Each agency head shall, as necessary and appropriate and consistent with the procedural requirements of section 3395 of title 5, United States Code, reassign agency SES members to ensure their knowledge, skills, abilities, and mission assignments are optimally aligned to implement my agenda; (d) Each agency head should terminate its existing Executive Resources Board (ERB), institute a new or interim ERB, and assign senior noncareer officials to chair and serve on the board as a majority alongside career members; (e) Each agency head should terminate its existing Performance Review Board membership and re-constitute membership with individuals committed to full enforcement of SES performance evaluations that promote and assure an SES of the highest caliber; and (f) Any agency head who becomes aware of an SES official whose performance or continued occupancy of the position is inconsistent with either the principles reaffirmed in this Order or their duties to the Nation under section 3131 of title 5, United States Code, shall immediately take all appropriate actions, up to and including removal of that official, with the support of OPM and OMB. Restoring an accountable government workforce is a top priority of my Administration.Oh, so you're an SES big shot? Don't even think about losing that cushy gig by stepping out of line, or the new boss will fire you with the full approval of the president. Boy, I hope that one bears fruit. Make the executive ranks think twice. And another big one: To remedy these abuses of the public trust, this Order directs the revocation of any active or current security clearances held by: (i) the former intelligence officials who engaged in misleading and inappropriate political coordination with the 2020 Biden presidential campaign; and (ii) John R. Bolton.Ouch. John Bolton, one of the cheapest whores in Washington, got called out directly for his malfeasance. Gotta hurt. I could go on. And on. And on. And on. But this word hole is already more than twice as long as it should be. Trump had a very busy first day, and all of it is extremely promising. A substantial amount of it - at least six EOs - are directly related to reining in the federal workforce and bringing them to heel. One of my biggest questions has been the one in the opening paragraph: how will Trump wrest control of the renegade bureaus (that is, all of the bureaus) from the Party apparatchiks packed into them from bottom to top? We're seeing part of the strategy now. All of this will be challenged. Most of it will be delayed. Much of it will probably be overturned. But he's taking a page out of the Party's book and flooding the zone, hitting from all sides and hammering it hard. This is a promising start and a strong opening play in what will be a very, very long game to contain and excise the metastatic Party cancer in the bureaus. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

This is going to be a big, big fight. The original idea behind SES was that the senior positions in the Federal government didn't pay enough, so SES was created - the deal was allegedly that in exchange for the extra pay, you gave up civil service protections, and could be fired. Then, of course, they changed the rules and said that if you tried to fire a SES person, the SES person could just elect to revert to being a GS-15, with full civil service protections. The retired lieutenant general surnamed Kao was among six people indicted for violating the national security law, the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office said in a statement. Kao and another defendant used Chinese funds to form “an armed organisation” that would act as an “internal collaborator” if China attacked Taiwan, prosecutors said. They also engaged in “scouting, contacting, wooing and absorbing retired and active servicemen”, putting national security in a “dangerous state”. When everything turns to shit, you've got to have a real leader to pull things together and show everyone a way out; that's what Trump has given to the conservative side. 37. What police officers had the "shit beat out of them" on Jan.6th? I heard some jackass say yesterday that police were attacked for hours on Jan. 6- these lying idiots still are trying to make this into some kind of battle like Iwo Jima. Considering none of the Jan. 6 participants had weapons except for flags and banners, how were they going to defeat the Capitol Police? They couldn't even get in the Capitol building without having the doors opened for them.

The President has now made it clear that it’s ok to beat the shit out of police officers so long as you’re one of his supporters.
Finding it hard to focus on any of the other news from day one --- Except that's not what he pardoned them for. Also, were that true every reduction in sentence would be telling a criminal that crime's "Okay". Some of these people served all their sentence, some of the served most of their sentence. So "Time Served" just doesn't apply to the enemies of the Democratic Party? We'd better see more Dem support of harsher punishments for REAL crimes, like violent crimes. Once upon a time, many people - including many of us here, believed in a robust US foreign policy. The idea of "fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" is sound... or it would be but for what we've learned since. It was a hard lesson to discover that forces within the US government are responsible for creating the scenarios which permitted/"necessitated" military action abroad. Some here still have difficulty with that fact, at least when Russia is also involved. Bolton seemed resolute, serious, and he was glib enough to lull willing listeners. Many former "stars" on the right have been discovered to be charlatans who merely choose to focus on a different grift - likely because they're white. I'm sure it's been said elsewhere, but in many ways having Trump out of office for 4 years to conscientiously evaluate how he would redo a four-year term was probably a great benefit to all of us. It sucks we had to go through 4 years of Biden, but I don't think a direct second term for Trump would have been as revolutionary or as permanent as what he's about to accomplish. For one, the culture has shifted away from doctrinaire wokeness in the last year. The examples of bureaucrats as bad guys has increased exponentially as dei hires have failed spectacularly. 4 years of telling us that men can be women with a wink and a push-up bra has finally worn out the Goodwill the American people.

I continue to believe in my pet conspiracy theory:
Brian Sicknick died of an unrelated stroke on January 7th. That was very, very convenient for the Deep State - it allowed them to put Sicknick on display in the Capitol Rotunda with a massive funeral, and pretend that Sicknick was a January 6th martyr. The Deep State needed Sicknick dead. Badly. Say, does the CIA and other US intelligence agencies have any drugs that would trigger a stroke, without being noticed in a post-death medical exam? The President has now made it clear that it’s ok to beat the shit out of police officers so long as you’re one of his supporters. Finding it hard to focus on any of the other news from day one ________ Mission accomplished, then. Trump's flurry of EOs and pardons, with J6 front and center, has created too much for simpleminded leftists to focus on. They are hollering about J6 when that is the least of Trump's actions in the grand scheme of things. But leftists just cannot get over J6. They never will. It's a fetish, a perversion, a distracting shiny thing that calls their name like a goat's ass does to Ahmed. Oh: and fuck the capitol police. The executive has no authority to cede power over its office to the legislature, and that's exactly what ever civil service law signed by a president does.
And the idea that there are unelected worker bees who have greater claim over the running of any part of the executive than the president elected by the Electoral College is deeply unAmerican. Any of You People old enough to remember the TITAN II missile incident in Arkansas in September 1980? On September 18, 1980, a Titan II ICBM inside Silo 374-7 of the US Air Force's 308th Strategic Missile Wing, located outside of Damascus, Arkansas, suffered a fuel leak due to a dropped socket wrench which struck and pierced the missile's skin. Hiring freeze hit our fed.gov agency this morning and a few people are freaking out. But most of us agree that this is a good thing and should have happened a long time ago. We just need our new Secretary (VA) confirmed and sort this mess out that the last one left us. 418 >>>BREAKING: President Trump is considering abolishing the federal income tax, per NYT.
--- I'm not a lawyer, but wouldn't that require a Constitutional amendment, like when the 21st voided the 18th? --- No. Under the Good and Plenty and the Emergency Clauses of the Constitution (see, e.g. Covid), the Supreme Court has ruled that the President can do what he wants. Stuff like prevent you from leaving your house, going shopping, wear a mask, submit to medical experiments, not collect rent from your tenants, etc. So yeah, Trump directing the IRS to just ... stop collecting income taxes or even requiring reporting is very easy. it was a rare thing, at the time unless one looked back on the apparat in the 40s, that killed nukraishi pasha, in retribution for al banna, Posted by: miguel cervantes at January 22, 2025 12:28 PM (dJR17) Posted by: Seems Legit at January 22, 2025 12:28 PM (PMtkd) 559
I have less of a problem with property taxes as they are localized in your County and State. Where you have, theoretically, a say in the amount and the use. Posted by: garrett at January 22, 2025 12:21 PM (snN/i) What property tax should not fund is the day-to-day operation of schools, teacher's salaries, etc. Property tax should be reserved for funding capital investment in infrastructure that accrues to the benefit of the property being taxed. One can make the argument that a new school building improves one's property value as it acts as a magnet to draw new residents to the area. Texas has no income tax and somehow we get along day to day. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at January 22, 2025 12:29 PM (dxSpM) Posted by: Yoda at January 22, 2025 12:29 PM (Aqu9a) 562
They can take your property for not paying your HOA fees too if you have one.
I’d be for not paying property tax for any property owner that use no local services or public access roads. The alternative is to pay for the services you want or need directly to the government department provider. Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at January 22, 2025 12:31 PM (D6PGr) 563

It definitely does increase the value of your home if you are in a good school district. That said , some states give you an over 65 exemption where you don’t pay school tax . Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth at January 22, 2025 12:34 PM (D6PGr) 564

I believe Ace mentioned in another thread that this new Trump is not the first term Trump who was all bark and no bite. Is it possible that it was a good thing he lost to Biden? If he won his second term in 2020 he would have had no reason not continue being an all bark and no bite president.
This new Trump and even new Mega members are pissed and ready to fight. So maybe losing the 2020 election will end up being a positive for changing this country. Posted by: Paul Young at January 22, 2025 02:39 PM (qztqx) 567
