Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: Buck Shots – January 17, 2025A lawsuit against Target over its controversial 2023 Pride Collection can move forward, a Florida judge has ruled. "Target embraced a radical transgender agenda targeting children and families through the corporation’s infamous 2023 'Pride' campaign," conservative group America First Legal, which filed the lawsuit, said in a statement, adding that the backlash "led to billions in losses." The excavation for 82 of the wind turbines involved explosives to create craters over 10 feet deep and 60 feet wide to install reinforced concrete foundations. "Significant amounts of Osage minerals were engineered and used as backfill for, and positioned around, the wind turbine foundations.” The United States brought two declaratory judgement claims and additional claims for conversion, trespass, and continuing trespass of the [Osage Mineral Estate]. On Thursday, Judge Choe-Groves also ordered the defendants to remove the wind farm from the OME and return it to its pre-trespass condition on or before Dec. 1 of next year.Maybe one reason Native Americans swung hard to the right in support of Donald Trump in the 2024 election is because they hate those giant bird-killing cuisinarts as much as Donald Trump does. [Scientists] found the previously hidden stand of trees on the Beartooth Plateau in northwest Wyoming, which is part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The whitebark pines were lying flat but had been preserved in good condition, suggesting they were rapidly enveloped by ice. The trees were recently exposed when the ice patch began melting due to hotter temperatures related to human-caused climate change, reports New Scientist’s Taylor Mitchell Brown. If “human caused climate change” caused the ice patch to melt, what caused the warming 6,000 years ago that allowed pine trees to grow there? Perhaps it was all the buffalo flatulence that caused warming in the mid-Holocene era. This Smithsonian article does at least note that, This suggests the region’s climate was once warmer than it is today. Correct. We are actually living in an historically cool period for planet Earth. In the last 20 years, faculty headcount has grown by over 20%, and the number of unrestricted staff — staff not funded by grants or gifts — has grown by 28%, according to the announcement. But during this time, undergraduate enrollment has grown by only 13%. This has placed “considerable pressure on the University’s tuition-dependent budget.”Brown’s operating deficit could hit $90 million next year. It sounds like it’s time for Brown to start liquidating its $7 billion endowment since the school is still avoiding the obvious solution of terminating the administrative deadweight that it hired.
This was brought to the attention of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who promptly did the right thing and fired a warning off to Texas A&M’s President Mark Welsh III. “Hell no. It’s against Texas law and violates the US Constitution. It will be fixed immediately or the president will soon be gone.”
Mr. Welsh III is a cowardly man who quickly bows to the latest pressure applied to him. He first bowed in obedience to the DEI brigade at Texas A&M. Then rather than defend his DEI-driven support for racial segregation, Mr. Welsh III pretended to acquiesce to Gov. Abbott so as not to lose his job. He canceled Texas A&M’s racially segregated participation in this specific event.
But if you read President Welsh’s letter of capitulation, he is still not acknowledging any wrongdoing. He wrote, ”While the proper process for reviewing and approving attendance at such events was followed, I don’t believe we fully considered the spirit of our state law in making the initial decision to participate.” If Welsh believes the “proper process” allowed for overt racial discrimination, and if he believes “the spirit of our state law” also allows for overt racial discrimination, then this man is not fit to be the President of Texas A&M University. He’s not fit to show his face in polite company in the state of Texas. Please, Governor Abbott, fire this man. Mark Welsh III has made it abundantly clear that he cannot serve another day as President of Texas A&M. If you have to fire university regents to get them to take action against Welsh, then do that. Mark Welsh III and his promotion of racial segregation cannot be tolerated in 21st Century Texas. [buck.throckmorton at protonmail dot com] Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

A cooling Earth is 1000X more frightening than even the worst-case global warming fear mongering.
A warmer Earth means more life. A colder Earth means much less life. A lot less. And, look at the article, the trees were "rapidly" enveloped in the ice. Because it was record snowfalls that ... just never melted. That can happen any year right now without warning. Which also brings me to the silliest global warming scare: Receding glaciers. Because our scientific education is so poor, everyone thinks they take centuries to form. Like a giant snowpack starts up at the top of the mountain that has crept over the centuries to the bottom. And I think the "giant glaciers over North America" that they claim scoured markings in the rock as they advanced is wrong too. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at January 17, 2025 11:17 AM (fPmNY) 66

Posted by: Piper at January 17, 2025 11:16 AM Good question. As the smoke clears from devastating Los Angeles wildfires, efforts to clean up the affected areas are being complicated by burnt-out electric and hybrid vehicles and home-battery storage systems. Lithium batteries from Tesla Inc., along with those from other carmakers, have added to the mix of toxic materials requiring specialized removal in the wake of the fires, delaying the fire victims’ return to their properties. “A lot of the cars in the evacuation area were lithium batteries,” said Jacqui Irwin, a state assembly member representing the Pacific Palisades, one of the neighborhoods hardest hit by the fires.

Black Lives Matter Demands Grocery Store Remain Open Despite Losing $7,000 a Day to Theft
Black Lives Matter activists are now demanding that the store stay open or that another low-cost food store take its place. A member of BLM and the Fillmore United Alliance, Daniel Landry, said in a statement at a recent rally, “We’re not playing. We are demanding." “We want all the new [city] supervisors to understand,” he said. “We can have a beautiful relationship or a sour relationship.” What if he had "demanded" that the shoplifters stop stealing? That would have been a novel approach. As it is now, Landry is demanding the store stay open so that residents can continue to steal $200,000 a month. Perhaps Buy Large Mansions (BLM) founder Patrisse Cullors, who purchased a $6 million mansion, could make an investment. Posted by: SMOD at January 17, 2025 11:30 AM (RHGPo) 118

Posted by: whig at January 17, 2025 11:22 AM (ctrM5) Don't forget the class warfare. Lots and lots of class warfare. I noted sometime back that under Obama they stopped reporting any news story in any way that would find people united in a truly common cause. It was as if "they" recognized the unforseen danger of their 9/11 op (I mean terror attack.... terror attack!) when the country seemed to unite in patriotism and anger, and decided that would be corrected forevermore. It, not any one of their pet causes, is the primary reason why for example kids will be killed and the Left will shout about gun control, or not release names of victims, or lie and obfuscate about the motives or perp. Or lie about anything else. Because if kids being killed is reported as/is without the levers of division wielded, people may feel a brotherhood instead of dividing and hating on a real or imagined fault line. Beyond prosperity only tragedy can unite us, and the twisted bastards won't even allow that. Posted by: ... at January 17, 2025 11:31 AM (vGi12) 121

It is China and India (along with other third world countries) that have exploded to over 4 times US emissions. Personally, I think it silly to worry so much about carbon as a warmer earth is better than a colder earth but environmentalist/communists are more interested in using energy to control people than to actually reduce emissions. Nuclear power is safe, reliable, and has minimal impact. Our local Hy-Vee closed due to “performance issues” (shoplifting) it was abrupt, and I know why.
A local entrepreneur had a vision for an “All In” grocery, and secured numerous grants and loans from the city to do it. Delays pushed construction back for years. It lasted less than a year, first he said there would be a “pause” while claiming supplier or vendor problems (90 days net goes bye-bye, cash on the barrelhead if you don’t pay, is most likely the problem) Like it never happened, what happened to the grant money, the loans, etc. And then the articles about how a “food desert”, etc. The only color a grocery store cares about is Green. If they can’t pencil it out… I can’t wrap my mind around people who are otherwise seemingly normal and reasonable, and then revert to kindergarten fairy tales when it applies to economics. Posted by: Chuck Martel Nuclear waste storage issues would also be fixed if we reprocessed the waste. Generates more fuel for reactors and shrinks the amount of waste to store by orders of magnitude. Carter killed it (despite both Japan and France among others doing it) because it creates plutonium which Carter argued made the world less safe for nuclear weapons reduction. NRC's reach also needs to be killed via Loper and legislation applied to its attempts to control all nuclear power reactor licensing. It has become a stumbling bloc to innovation and safety in power plants which the new modular ones would be. Same as the EPA killing smog reducing technology and improvements in power generation using MHD in older power plants. The environment actually is hurt because power companies cannot update equipment via upgrades, only maintain older grandfathers facilities. Posted by: whig at January 17, 2025 11:51 AM (ctrM5) 223

The recklessness and zeal by which the race grifters pursue their petty hatreds has the effect, intentional or not, of pushing people into a reactionary racism of their own. One thing about solar and batteries, anyone messing around with DC storage should know better than most just how amazing petroleum is on an energy density basis. There is really nothing else that comes close, and not for the price. Let’s say you have a car that gets 30 miles per gallon. Load it up with 2000 pounds. It costs 5 bucks for that gallon of gas. Turbine generators deliver dispatchable energy. Need more juice? Fire one up. Easy-peasy. Now windmills and solar panels cannot deliver dispatchable energy. They put out when the wind blows or the sun shines, and not at any other time. Adding a battery bank to either of those would turn it into a supplier of dispatchable energy, albeit of much less capacity than the peak possible output of the original source. The windmills that the Osage Nation got scotched were on the ranch ground that’s owned ( surface rights) by the Chief justice of the Oklahoma State Supreme Court. That’s my understanding. The windmills also went in before the McGirt decision hit Oklahoma politics and were funding some of the local school districts. The whole matter revolved around the mineral rights and the fact that the Osage weren’t approached to approve the digging out of the bases of the windmill structures because nobody likes dealing with them because it’s always gets expensive and in a direction that’s padding a pocket. Those windmills are ugly and it looks like Bladerunner 2049 at night. But it was always a fight over who was and who was not getting paid. Sacred ground.

Posted by: JM in Ill ======= I don't think limited modified hangouts are going to work much longer. Part of it is that Reform Party in Parliament has scrambled the two parties covering up the mistakes of each. You see the same thing in other Euro nations. The new parties don't give a shit about the mutual masturbation society that older political parties had going on to cover up bad or illegal policies. That is true in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Austria, etc. That is why the existing power structures are panicking trying to censor everything and ban/smear these new parties. People I have never met before lecturing me about white privilege doesn't fly. If my colleagues who I am friendly with who happen to be black people want to tell me that I'm racist o.k but give me specific examples. So far, I haven't asked them if I'm a racist and none of them have volunteered that information, maybe because we relate on the basis of our common humanity and shared interests ,our pastoral work and our faith in the Lord.

Posted by: Suspicious Gorn ------ Thanks. One of the reasons that we have a legal system instead of justice is the incredible corruption of judges in this country and the legal profession in general. Posted by: Braenyard ====== True dat. There are also some tricks like solar mass and even sand batteries to store heat for night time. We use dark colored rocks and other tricks to create micro climates for some cold intolerant plants in our yard. Even a degree or two can help a plant. For a few, solar lights spotlighted on an evergreen plant during a cold snap can help as photosynthesis activity raises the plant's heat level during the night. 74 ... "Obama ran on Down With Whitey in 2008 and won. The Left figured this gave them carte blanche. They used the phony images of "little Trayvon" and the fact that George Zimmerman had an old white Jewish guy sounding name to really tear the country asunder."
No, he most certainly didn't. In 2008 the media suppressed all his past ties to Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, and other race-baiters, and O's campaign rhetoric all pointed to him as someone who would finally resolve America's 200-year history of racial tensions. A lot of gullible wypipo fervently desired the peace he promised. (I didn't vote for him. Sarah Palin was the only reasoned I bothered voting for that crook McCain.) But in 2009, as soon as O took office he immediately did the bait-and-switch and for eight straight years turned the Down With Whitey rhetoric up to eleven at every opportunity. I don't know how much of it was community-organizer opportunism and how much was sheer malice, but Americans of all races will suffer for fifty years from the harm he did. Brown’s operating deficit could hit $90 million next year. It sounds like it’s time for Brown to start liquidating its $7 billion endowment
Brown's endowments' structure probably allows liquidation, and the comingling of those funds with general revenues. That raises questions of partial liquidation versus all-or-nothing. In either case, if Brown goes down that route it will be a long time before they ever see any new money. Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at January 17, 2025 01:16 PM (bufu1) 340
