Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

I saw this cartoon at the Bluebird of Bitterness this morning and it totally fits our dog, Luna. (Luna has been featured on the pet thread twice.) I figured a lot of other dog owners could relate. I post as Art Rondelet of Malmsey.

And many thanks for the pet thread. It's a definite weekend highlight.

Why, oh why is the fear so great?

Big Fat Meanie here. . . Greetings from the Midwest tundra. First, thanks for the kind words after the passing of my doggo this week. Thought I'd send in a photo from happier times so you could put a face to the name.

The Aussie, Duke, passed away at the age of 12, not unexpected, but quick. Constant companion, good friend, you all know the trope, but that's why we love 'em. Sunday night I took him for a 1.5 mile walk, but on Monday morning he could barely stand. Gonna miss him.

But life goes on, so also in the photo is Maggie, a hound of some origin, currently going through her velociraptor phase.

Thanks again for the hosting the thread.

What a perfect photo. Thanks for sending it in. So sorry that you have lost Duke. So glad that you still have Maggie.

Ruger got in a scrap with Bussie and she opened up a gash on his leg so now he has to wear a pink donut for a couple of days.
She started it. He's twice her size, too.

By-Tor

Poor Ruger. And he has to wear pink, too!

3 For all those who abandoned their Electric Vehicles you have 24 hours to retrieve them, or you will be fined $1,000.

If after 24 hours the vehicle is still there it will be towed at the owner's expense.

With that said the state of California still intends on banning all gasoline cars by the prescribed law. We need to move away from dirty gasoline cars to protect us from future wildfires caused by Global Warming.

17 I have everyone settled in for the cold snap. Mr Troubles has the couch, Jake has the futon chair and Fanny has a new heating pad in the bedroom. Her old heating pad went to the cat shelter outside, for Hank the stray, and I got a new heated food and water pan for him. I had one just for water, but his canned food kept freezing. He still likes to go under the house but does sleep in the shelter too.

I put bird seed out and peanuts for the squirrels. Should have done it when we had the snow.

23 Afternoon, Pet Folken,

The Mr. Mischievous cat, if he were all black, would look much like my Stirling. At least Mr. M seems to have medium-length fur on his tail. And Captain's red tabby with white is living proof of why I say "If cats weren't good-looking, we wouldn't put up with them for a minute."

WhenI arrived home from my errands, I found little Dagny the Aloof had installed herself on the side of my bed away from the one where I usually sleep. She and Stirling were both still there when I woke from my nap just now. Maybe Dagny will get to be less aloof as she gets older.

Both of them will be three years old in March and will have been part of my life for that long in June (Stirling) and September (Dagny).

26 The dog indoor racecourse video is great. I watched it to see how a dog could be a "gangster." I'm still not sure (unless it has something to do with the music in the vid). The fourth dog was outclassed as far as leg length compared to the first three -- but he never let it stop him. I kept expecting to see him fail to clear one of the hurdles, but he did fine.

28 Both of my dogs are terrified of both clipper and Drexel. Sarge has white claws, so we can take care of him fairly quickly, often in one session. By Tank's are black, and you can't see where the quick is. Very traumatic.

29 I think the gangster part was the fact that he had so much airtime on every single jump, maybe?

33 I admit I don't trim my cats' claws. Allie doesn't need it since she's been declawed (before she came to live with me).

My other cats seem to do OK with using the various scratching posts to keep their nails trimmed.

Hexie, because of her deformed front paws (she's polydactyl) has one claw sticking out of her front left paw. I do trim that claw down from time to time.

43 The smoke detector started doing a low battery warning last night, intermittant beeps. Jake is freaked out by things that beep. I got the one down in the kitchen and pulled the batteries. But I'd taken down the one by the bedroom. Took awhile to find it and pulled the batteries. Jake was panting hard so I gave him some composure. Took a bit but he finally calmed down and went to sleep. I thought I'd already pulled the batteries. I can't cook bacon without them going off.

44 We have/had a few that arrived as feral stray kittens at a time we had outside cats. They'd saunter up to the food bowl 'Don't pay attention to me, human, I belong here' and mingle with the big cats just like that. Of course we caught them and they became cherished kitties.
One baby we caught at our local MacD's as it negotiated car wheels. That was Isabella, a longish golden haired. She was living on chicken nuggets fed by the staff. Actually two kittens but one disappeared and was gone. Issy was actually more intelligent than the average cat. Also played fetch. We lost her early (9 years) to an abdominal malignant tumor that metastasized very quickly. A tragedy.

51 I want to thank everyone for helping ,e with Snowflake, Trumpy and lately their mother Starry.

My friends are on vacation and will be missing the minus 4 Fahrenheit weather this week. The cats are safely here.

Since my mother passed away, after taking a much needed rest, I'll need to create a life for myself, find work or create stuff. So I told my friends omce they get back, they need to start taking the cats back.

They are the most beautiful cats but too much work for everything I'm going through. I hate the in and out at night.

As it is, I already have Mom's depressed dog to take care of.

I'll enjoy keeping bathroom doors open again. Trumpy goes in and turns on the faucets. They will have happy lives. They are beautiful cats.

52 Thanks again, K.T., for the pet thread, the cutest and cuddliest thread on the blog.

Not sure that Daisy, our ball-crazy Malinois, could maintain it, but in bursts she matches those racing dogs. Took her out this morning (she and I both bundled up) to play fetch.

She runs off in the direction she thinks I'm going to, or should, throw the ball. Final throw, I call her to get her attention and throw it 180° the other way, and she goes into turbo mode. I love to watch her when she does, and I think she really likes it. But that was enough for the morning and we came in.
