Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Washington Post: Biden and Democrats Blame Election Loss on Merrick Garland, Believing He Wasn't Partisan Enough In His Lawfare Against TrumpMollie Hemingway had a reason for championing Trump over any of his primary rivals: We had to show that the left's lawfare and politics of personal destruction would not be allowed to work. The left had to be repudiated in the worst way possible, and for the left, that meant the re-election of Trump. The left, meanwhile, grumbles that what they really needed was MOAR LAWFARE.David Strom: It may seem odd to normal people that anybody could think that Garland was anything but a political hack over the past four years, but seen through the eyes of Democratic Party operatives, you can see how such an absurd idea seems normal. So another Conspiracy Theory turns out to have been 100% accurate. Interesting take from Jester Politics, via Hot Air: While Democrats moan that Biden dropped out of the race too late, the truth is the opposite.[Washington Post:] Biden was persuaded, and some Democrats believe the decision had devastating results. Had the Justice Department moved faster to prosecute Trump for allegedly seeking to overturn the 2020 election and mishandling classified documents, they say, the former president might have faced a politically damaging trial before the election. (Others blame the Supreme Court and a Trump-appointed judge in Florida for repeatedly siding with the former president and delaying the cases; the Justice Department declined to comment.)... What sticks out about this tidbit, though, is not Biden's regret but the reason for it: his strategy for defeating Donald Trump depended upon using the Justice Department to prosecute Trump to tie him up during the campaign and use allegations to undermine Trump. On the one hand, you could say, "That's obviously true," but on the other, this amounts to an admission that Biden's election strategy was to weaponize the Justice Department. One of the most amazing excuses floated so far is that Biden pulled out of the race too late leaving Harris to little time to run an effective campaign. Nonsense. That's like saying the reason the plane crashed was because the ground was too close. With the concerted help of the old press Harris was initially able to hide from the voters. For a significant part of her campaign she gave no interviews, held no press conferences, and had no unscripted interaction with voters. When she was eventually forced to do interviews she limited them to friendly venues -- like the Call Her Daddy podcast, The View, and 60 minutes. Even though every one of her interviews were at friendly venues, every one of them were still a disaster. As it turned out, the more people saw of Harris, the less they liked her. If she had a month less to campaign, she would've been better off...in other words, Biden didn't drop out too late, he dropped out too soon! I've seen videos of Kamala Harris speaking about "child issues" as California AG.
She was everything you would want in a Presidential candidate. Smart sounding, crisp, clear and clever. Unfortunately, she only really cares about a thin slice of the issues of the day. Beyond those specific issues, she was a vacuous buffoon. During her Senate days, her staff would prepare material for her to ingest but .. she just didn't like it, so nothing stuck. Interesting take from Jester Politics, via Hot Air: While Democrats moan that Biden dropped out of the race too late, the truth is the opposite.
===== It's probably true. But the kicker was that they replaced Biden after the primary and in a way that allowed Kamala to just swoop in and take it from anyone else. Seriously, invalidating a presidential primary had no negative side effects? Why is this an underlying assumption of almost every bit of analysis of the 2024 election? 1. Biden's handlers don't actually believe this. This is dripping with midnight-at-the-prom-punchbowl desperation to find a scapegoat for their November catastrophe. 2. The debate about Democrats has largely been focused on policy. That is, inflation, the border and the regulatory assault. But in the end what matters to most people is the willingness to use the auspices of government against the people. Burned in peoples minds, importantly in many younger Americans, was the Democrats outright and unabashed assault on civil liberties starting with COVID and extending into lawfare against anyone who didn’t agree with them politically. That isn’t a matter of policy, it’s a matter of innate political orthodoxy. That isn’t likely to change no matter what candidate Democrats put up and it’s something we haven’t done enough to remind people of. Notice that Democrats are leaning towards putting up what they call more “moderate” candidates. But that’s a smokescreen for the subversive, undemocratic and anti-liberty impulses that every modern Democrat possesses. They should NEVER be trusted again, nor should we continue to allow them to run from that record.

A similar thing happened with Comey. Hillary publicly blamed Comey for her election loss for reopening the investigation into her email server after the Weiner laptop matter. In fact, he was protecting her from the NYPD by reasserting control over the investigation and the evidence, as she well knew. The Guardian: Biden regrets ending re-election campaign , and picking Merrick Garland for attorney general, as he was slow to prosecute Trump for January 6
Garland was a huge disappointment. Maybe Obama thought he would seem like a really middle of the road and uncontroversial pick. Obama was always so careful to not be seen as extreme. Garland was a HUGE mistake as trump may possibly began a dictatorship that will end our democracy. His foot dragging on going after trump for J6 has drastically changed the nation as trump should've been tried, convicted and jailed long before the corrupt SCOTUS 6 got involved with their corrupt immunity ruling. Obama had to pick a justice the Republican Senate would confirm. Biden didn't have the same pressure. He was recommended as an easy shoe in by Orin Hatch-R and stonewalled by McCONnell. This is a misleading account. Hatch suggested Garland for an earlier vacancy. That was actually filled by Sotomayor or Kagan. The purpose of nominating Garland was to demonstrate Republican hypocrisy, there was never a real expectation he would be confirmed. I think if they waited any longer to stage the coup, it would have been too close to the election, and any voters even remotely persuadable would have smelled an even bigger smellier rat than they did.
I think earlier would have indeed been better. Kumswala is terrible, but her terribleness peaked around election day. These things always have an up and down to them. I don't think her approval would have continued to decline. Voters got a shock-treatment view of her and were still stunned on election day. And when their candidate, who is known primarily for chugging cock, finally condescended to do a podcast, of all the podcasts on the internet, she chose the one that built a large following by talking about chugging cock. He did that at the end of his first term. He and others have said this consistently for the last 4 years. He appointed Kash and John Solomon to work with the various agencies and the National Archives, an incredibly corrupt agency, and they stonewalled him right up until he left for Mar A Lago. That's why he took what he could and said to anyone who would listen "I declassified these documents as is my right as POTUS". Didn't matter, the media didn't report it or if they did they lied about his authority to take them and then the DOJ/FBI raided Mar A Lago. I don't know why he didn't release them post presidency. Maybe he thought they would prosecute him, maybe he thought it was the wrong way to do it and it would hurt the country, who knows. But I think he wants to do it once he is back in the WH. I loved Walz as the VP candidate. He was so awful and incompetent. And the way they tried to preempt the "weird" charges by claiming JD Vance was weird.
Feelings in mainstream Dem circles about him seem like the muted, tepid support all Dems have to give and receive about one another. Most hardcore Lefty YouTubers and such seem to genuinely love him, feel he has a relatable Midwestern approach, a positive masculinity, and tried and true Progressive policy agenda. They also love his "weird" campaign against conservatives. The only problem the hard Left had was the Harris people reigned Walz in, and instead of doubling down on the "progressive successes and rhetoric", and keeping the "successful" weird attack going, they sold out and went the safe, corporatist, centrist route. --- My "stink of loser" theory of politics; and it applies to all parties. Where if you have the stink of loser, it's almost impossible to win ever. If you can't win an election after 2 tries--stink of loser. Lost your most recent re-election (or don't run cause you can't win)--stink of loser. There was talk in the last thread about direct to satellite phone system being more robust. The problem with that is that there is that a single point of failure exists and that is the command and control center.
The existing cell phone system is highly distributed and most failures can be rerouted though a number of network operation centers. Regions may be affected but the whole thing isn't going down unless multiple failures occur. The GPS system is extremely complicated to manage and it's ground operations used to be very vulnerable. I'm sure this has changed because it should have. Posted by: pawn, RIP Vic at December 30, 2024 03:16 PM (QB+5g) 239
One of my big policies in management is to always get "buy-in" from those whose support you might need in future.
Other managers, employees, etc. Give them a voice before hand and they take responsibility for the decision and then support it in the crunch afterward. Without buy-in, they become critics when you need them the most. Posted by: Gentlemen, time for a reckoning at December 30, 2024 03:16 PM (eMPHe) 240

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor As far as VPs go, I think her bigger problem was the national head-winds were already against the Dems, a last minute swap of candidates doesn't help, and Harris has a record of mediocrity and failure in contested elections, so no Dem with any actual appeal or ambition would WANT to be her VP, lose, and hurt any chances of running in 2028 for the actual Presidency. The problem with that is that there is that a single point of failure exists and that is the command and control center.
Posted by: pawn, RIP Vic ----- What makes you think there is a single command and control center? The satellites talk to each other, and they all can downlink. So it becomes a robust network. I imagine they downlink as quickly as possible to get the data onto land and free up bandwidth. Navigation and space-junk avoidance is probably centralized, but that can be easily made redundant and control centers even placed in multiple countries. Conspiracy against rights (18 U.S.C. § 241) is a very serious federal felony. Posted by: andycanuck Interesting. In part, On August 1, 2023, Special Counsel Jack Smith announced that former President Trump had been indicted by a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia. The four-count indictment alleges that the former President participated in several criminal conspiracies: • “A conspiracy to defraud the United States by using dishonesty, fraud, and deceit to Impair, obstruct, and defeat the lawful federal government function by which the results of the presidential election are collected, counted, and certified by the federal Government, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371”; • “A conspiracy to corruptly obstruct and impede the January 6 congressional proceeding at which the collected results of the presidential election are counted and certified ... in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1512(k)”; and • “A conspiracy against the right to vote and to have one’s vote counted, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 241.” So the same conspiracy charge would appear again. To go bye bye again. 🤔 Posted by: L - Rooster one day, feather duster another at December 30, 2024 03:33 PM (NFX2v) 255
