MSNBC Shrieks at Trump's Promise to End Birthright Citizenship

I'm glad Trump is revisiting this issue, which he brought up but abandoned in his first term.

In President-elect Donald Trump's recent interview with NBC News' Kristen Welker, host of "Meet the Press," he once again promised to end birthright citizenship when he takes office in January. "You know we're the only country that has it," Trump falsely claimed.

The US is the only developed Western nation that has it. No country in Europe has it. Japan doesn't have it. Most countries in the Americas have it, but the Western Hemisphere is the exception.

As the Trump campaign laid out over the summer, the proposed executive order he would sign would limit the scope of automatic citizenship to children born here and require at least one parent to prove they are either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident. In the absence of such evidence, federal agencies would be ordered to deny the newborn from receiving a Social Security number and block the parents from receiving any federal benefits like the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, better known as WIC. That baby would also be denied a U.S. passport and any other documentary proof of citizenship.
Trump first pushed a similar change back in 2018, but it got put far on the backburner by more cautious staffers. This time around, though, his incoming deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, and other hard-liners are preparing to move forward with as many restrictions on immigration as possible. They subscribe to a worldview that has long rejected the notion that America's white Christian heritage can stand while also freely accepting the children of nonwhite migrants or formerly enslaved Black people as equal citizens under the Constitution.

Seven-year-old Ivory Smith was killed by Venezuelan migrant Joel Enrique Gonzalez Chacin in a late-night drunk driving accident in north Houston just two and a half months after ICE released a hold against him, court documents revealed.
Fox 26 Houston reported that court records revealed that Chacin had previously been placed on another ICE hold earlier this year after being arrested for assaulting a family member in June.
The felony assault charge against him ended up being dropped to a misdemeanor and, after pleading guilty, Chacin was sentenced to 113 days in jail, which he had already served, and was released that same day. The ICE detainer against him was also lifted that same day for an unknown reason.

Fox News Digital reached out to ICE to find out why the detainer against Chacin was lifted and has not yet heard back.

Authorities confirmed to Fox News Digital that the 41-year-old migrant was intoxicated when he T-boned Christina Smith and her daughter Ivory at 2:45 a.m. Police said that Chacin took photographs of the scene of the crash "instead of helping" and then drove off. The two victims were only a few minutes from home.
Smith was severely injured in the wreck but has since been released from the hospital. Chacin was arrested for intoxicated manslaughter and has been put on a new ICE detainer.
Ivory was in second grade. According to a statement released by the family, the mother continues to "endure immense physical and emotional pain" from the accident.
"No parent should have to suffer the unbearable loss of a child, especially under circumstances that could and should have been prevented," said the family, adding, the incident is a "stark reminder that we need stronger accountability and justice to prevent further suffering for families like ours."
"Even more troubling is the fact that this individual was released after being detained earlier this year, only to find themselves back in custody after causing irreparable harm," the family went on. "Why do we have holds in place if they fail to keep dangerous individuals off our streets? ... How can a system allow such leniency, where a person with such a record is given a chance to walk free and re-offend?"

Ivory is -- was -- a seven-year-old black girl.

But it's all about protecting the White Christian majority from non-white immigrants. MSNBC said so.

during the debates over the 4th amendment after the civil war, it was agreed that being born to foreign parents who were in the united states at the time of birth would not make you a citizen

Also, the American Indians were granted citizenship by a separate act. If merely being born within the boundaries of the US made you a citizen that would be unnecessary - they would already have been citizens.

But, like illegals, the Indians were not under the jurisdiction of the US government, hence, not citizens.

I think Levin is dead wrong about this. He's ignoring the "jurisdiction" language. BR was created almost out of whole cloth in a footnote to a Supreme Court decision. To be sure, the SC purported to be interpreting the Constitution, but it was as strangled and butchered as much as Roe v. Wade. Getting rid of BR citizenship would almost certainly require another decision by the SC, but no constitutional amendment would be needed.

However, the Indian Citizenship Act shows that there is precedent for Citizenship matters to be dealt with legislatively, without needing to amend the Constitution. Congress is the body that needs to act here, in order to do this constitutionally.

Remember that anything done by an EO can be undone by any future President. Congressional legislation, not so much.

228 Back to how I think this situation should be addressed - in 1924, the Court had no problem with Congress completely rewriting the Citizenship treatment of Indians under the 14th amendment in a massive piece of legislation. The Court has said that when Congress passes a bill, and it is signed by the President, this represents the authority of 2 branches of government working together, and they are very hesitant to overturn something of that nature.

An EO is very weak because it's just the President acting on his own.

I disagree on two points.

1) The NKJV doesn't rely solely on the same source texts as the KJV. There are definite differences in the locations of texts, and other additions and subtractions.

2) I think there are a lot of people here in the Horde who could do a good job on a language update, using a relatively recent, non-woke dictionary, the original Noah Webster dictionary, and other sources to ensure clarity. If so, I'd recommend having multiple teams, each responsible for one part, or integrating the useful amendments into the core document, then reviewing and reviewing the work of other teams. This would be a refining process, similar to the work done to create the KJV Bible.

That's one of the things that really bothers me about Spellcheck.

I was once Christmas shopping for my WWII veteran father-in-law, and found a book I thought he'd like which were the memoirs of a German panzer commander. On the title page it said "Translated form the German by..". At this point I shut the book and put it back on the shelf. I knew my FIL would not countenance that kind of thing in a published work.

But there was no red sqiggle under that "form," so some lazy kid working in the printing house never caught the error.

I don't do withous Spellcheck entirely, since it does catch things that the human eye might otherwise miss, but I always make sure to print out the doc and do a proofread of the hard copy as well.
