1950s Cafe

northumberlandstorm.jpg
Northumberland
By Jim Scott Photo

Led Zeppelin II, original 1958 recording.

Terrific song from 1953, "Why Don't We 69?"

From 1949, "It Isn't Gonna Suck Itself." Steel Panther got sued for steel-ing this classic.

More big hits from Sus Records.

Cat gymnasium.

Thug accosts passers-by on the street.

Out: Cat Ladies. In: Rhino Moms.

Polar bear wants to play.

Neighbor-dog knocks on the door every day to play.

Big ginko.

Doing a flip on a cargo bike (which I didn't even know was a thing).

Rescuing a cat trapped by a dangerous flood.

Bow before your master.

Little dog only has eyes for his mistress.

"It's too many baby goats in pyjamas!" is what I'd say if such a thing existed.

Calf comes over for pets, and mama cow eventually comes over to make sure everything is okay.

Who let the Dalmatian puppy have the remote control again?

Cat flashmob decides to sunbathe on the sidewalk.

Full moon in the forest.

Cows being comedians.

There is no better friend nor more stalwart defender than a dog. Unless there's a distraction.

A very special Steve Inman head-on collision. (No major injuries, incredibly.)

Bunches of punches.

A zoo gave its animals Thanksgiving dinner:

18 Based on Ace's comments, I found a boxed set of James Bond films and am working my through them. Finishing up "Thunderball" tonight.

I still think "From Russia With Love" is arguably the most pure Cold War of all the films, but "Goldfinger" is the first true James Bond film, with the title sequence, musical leitmotif, Q giving out a list of gadgets that must be used, and of course Pussy Galore. More thoughts to come.

Back in the early-mid 90s there was a Funk Ensemble called Trulio Disgracias that was comprised of ex-Fishbone and Infectuous Groove members. Very P-Funk / Parliament style shows.
Along with some others that toured with them was a Gospel Singer who was the size of Nell Carter. Each set highlighted her singing and usually contained at least one Zeppelin Cover.
When she sang Whole Lot of Love, the entire House came down.

40 >>> That's a possibility, but an All-Star team with a coach everybody respects and follows is a great All-Star team.
Out of 50 companies I worked for (as a FTE or contractor) in software development, there was only one that was great -- and it was filled with All-Stars (people who were formerly the best at their prior gigs and organizations). It was f*cking heaven ... until the Tech Bubble burst in 2002 (followed by layoffs and eventually being sold to an Indian company). Ugh.

ShainS, thanks for this comment in the previous thread! That gives me more hope. Winners usually hire winners. Losers hire less competent losers so they don't look bad. (See the Obama > Biden > Kamala > Waltz meme.)

That's a really cool work experience you had! I never appreciated the magic of some of my teams I've worked on over the years, until one member transferred or left.

Nothing between there and here to stop the noise. Funny but we really don't hear it when in Anchorage. I guess the city noise cancels it out.

As always hard to get a handle on things. Apparent large scaled abandonment of vehicles and equipment by government forces in the last week - shown on video - suggests disarray. But impossible to know.

But, just as the ludicrous propaganda fed to Japanese in 1945 had many (quietly) noting that the "victories" kept getting closer and closer to the home islands, the rebel/govt. engagements (whatever their status) keep getting closer to Damascus.

I saw an ad for the Country Music Awards and it looked... diverse. Not the singers, but the dancers. Somehow half or so, out of a 13% demographic that statistically doesn't listen to country (even modern country) music.

180 Bronze Stars, like those Hegseth earned, are common among military officers

Kind of? Hell, I have a Bronze Star for my Iraq deployment...and yes, it was very much the standard for all officers of a certain rank or position just for serving the tour.

However, you can also be awarded the Bronze Star with V device, a little bronze V pin that goes on the medal's ribbon denoting valor. Those are earned for bravery while in combat, are much more rare, and probably have a better distribution in the enlisted and junior officer ranks.

Reporting isn't 100% clear on what type Hegseth earned, but it looks like he may have been a junior infantry officer (LT or CPT) when he earned them, so he very well could have the V device version which actually means something.

201 I heard Matt Boyle of Breitbart news make a good analogy today on Seb Gorka's radio show:

Pete Hegseth is now the Tip of The Spear of the Trump Nominees -- and if we don't get him confirmed, the UniParty will be emboldened (having already collected Matt Gaetz's scalp) to reject many of Trump's other nominees (Kash, Tulsi, Bobby Jr., et. al).

As he did leading his troops into combat as an Infantryman Officer in Afghanistan & Iraq, here he is now leading Trump's nominees into and through the UniParty confirmation process.

It's great to see MAGA rally around Pete, and I hope that behind the scenes Trump is doing some Mafia Don shit to make sure he gets the Secretary of Defense job. There are literally trillions at stake, from Defense Contractors to the DEI/CRT multi-billion dollar grift ... and why the UniParty hates and is terrified of Hegseth.

I had the weirdest thing happen a year ago.

I was listening to Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello (a song whose lyrics I had puzzled over in the past). Anyway, even though I was completely sober and not on any drugs, I had this wild druggy interpretation about the lyrics that they were actually about a subliminal television ad advertising for a recruits for a secret mercenary army. (Note that the lyrics are kind of about that, just not the "subliminal tv ad.")

It was a seriously trippy thing, becoming convinced of this hidden meaning that is nowhere in the actual lyrics.

Jack Straw, take a note: Sometimes you can have a "drug trip" just using the power of imagination.

I was listening to an older black gentleman do a sort of podcast a couple of days ago, and he was discussing how black women being raised by black women to dislike and distrust black men has been so damaging to their community and families.

What I didn't know was how bad "colorists" thought really was. I knew it existed (HBCUs were doing brown bag tests just a few years ago to screen out dark skinned applicants), but it's apparently a huge problem that isn't and can't be discussed.

It's not difficult to see how easy it was for Obama to ramp up racial animosity against whites.

Several years ago, John Fogarty was on the Today show or some such, in a live event to play a song. It was outside in front of the studio or something. And to give yet one more example of how stupid and vapid she is, after he was done playing she says to him, I always thought it said 'there's a bathroom on the right'!

I mean, I heard he can be an asshole, but he's a rock and roll legend. Hugely talented. And this is what you say to him? I can see joking about it if it was an interview or something, but it was a quick 30 second chat after the song.

"Climate change" is the "killer app" of totalitarian pseudo-scientific control schemes. It will literally control, or limit, or manipulate *all* human behavior (at least all behavior connected with modern, energy-fueled economies).

Which is why I have whined about it probably not being a priority target for the new crew. And why I was throwing things at the screen 7 (?) years ago when Trump was ditching the Paris Accords but explaining it as a "bad deal" for the US, vs., you know. The guy he asked that too responded to nicely. Weird how the alphabet cable newz networks are failing.

328 A fun day here in California,
Mother Nature's little Etch-a-Sketch. Currently enjoying the usual video on the news of the grocery store with everything in the aisles, the wine shop for smashed bottles on the floor, the storefront with the windows smashed out, and the broken water main underneath the main street. Only thing missing so far is a broken chimney. You can practically write a script for these guys. It's like the intrepid reporter who always stands out in the middle of the hurricane winds.

329 Tom I take it you are referring to most fake, er, "green" or "alternative" energy schemes, and you are probably right.

But the "climate" thing by its nature encompasses almost all human activity, and even though "compliance" is often nil or half-hearted in much of the world, the scale of looting and the opportunity costs involved are catastrophic.

There's also the minor thing about the corruption of science, the descent into full lysenkoism.

That there are almost no public figures willing to directly confront this disastrous fraudulent assault on freedom and prosperity is, I suppose, characteristic for this time. A time of midgets and mediocrities, for the most part.

331 That's been a longstanding criticism of him buddying up to Trump and getting on DOGE. I hope he's smart enough to know that it's bad optics and will corrode the veneer that DOGE needs of being pure and uncorrupted.

That doesn't bother me one bit. Nobody needs an electric car. They are a vanity toy for virtue signalers. If shutting down all the other pretenders to the Tesla throne means more and cheaper gasoline cars, we all win.

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 05, 2024 09:42 PM (WtsT+)

332 No one except someone like Musk could do DOGE. Look what he did to twitter - fired 75% of the employees and made it better. Name anyone else in the world with the guts to try that.

The lack of a public response is because of the career ending condemnation piled on anyone who does it - not many people will risk that. But the warmists own math condemns them - without huge projects like netzero, it’s impossible to make any change in the Earths atmosphere, so it all becomes pointless.

Kill the programs, kill the idea.

338 Has anyone sent the new Shoeonhead vid? I guess her assistant made her pull her punches on the previous vid about how disgusted she is with the dems, but in this one she went full New York Italian brawler. I enjoyed it.

346 Are we unworthy of an ONT?
OK.Then.
Finally some good news.
Nailed down a crappy job today.
Then later got a call to come test for a state job.
The state job pays way more and even has a nice sign on bonus.
I just need to study for it before Tuesday.
I had forgotten I had even applied for it.
