The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

Thanksgiving is great! As Joe Mannix ably explained yesterday, it is America's greatest holiday. It is full of joy and camaraderie and fun food, but it is also a peek into American Exceptionalism. We are at once a country that cares deeply for others, and we are also fiercely individualistic. We are religious, but embrace non-religious cultural events. And we understand how wonderfully lucky we are!

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

That is a powerful affirmation of exactly how exceptional we are, and the incredible optimism in every word of that preamble speaks volumes. And it is that optimism on which I will focus for the time being, especially when one compares today to the dark times of just a few months...and years...ago.

Do we have problems? Of course, and they may very well be existential, but we have an incredible opportunity for a radical realignment of our culture, our people, and our country, and for that I am immensely grateful.

The pessimists among us will suggest that we are in a temporary lull before the onslaught of progressive evil returns. That may be true, but we see around us the results of simply fighting back. We "voted harder," and we also did a lot of hard work to make those votes count.

We see all around us the emergence of a new class of conservative politician...people who are not afraid to shock and scare and go on the offensive. They are the future of the conservative movement, and I firmly believe that they are the future of America. And with our help they will succeed!

Happy Thanksgiving! May it be a glorious and joyful harbinger of great things to come.

Here is Jaguar's attempt to sell cars. It's freakish and weird and insults the very people who want to buy a beautiful, sexy, powerful automobile. Maybe in the tortured and strange world in which the advertising people live, this ad is good, but in the reality based world, where expensive cars and beautiful women are linked, it's off-putting and disturbing.

Here is a fun BMW commercial that is trying to sell cars in the old fashioned way!

And here is an ad for used cars! Maybe the least sexy product on earth, yet...

But no.... the fake ad is generating plenty of clicks for Aston Martin so whoever made it should be on their payroll. 111 My Thanksgiving Story:

I was in a military style concert/marching band as a youth. They were world champions 20 times back when that was a thing. I played trombone and by tradition marched in the front line.

We marched in the Detroit Thanksgiving parade one year. We were behind the horses. They don't tell you about that kind of thing. So we are marching to a cadence and not playing. Regular military cadence is 6 to 5. The poop is right in line with me and I'm marching looking at it and sure as shit it's right where I was supposed to step.

So I fucking stepped in it. Kind of a bizarre manifestation of defiance for me. Anyway...right as I stepped in it . I didn't even think about avoiding it.

I heard this black kid scream at the top of his lungs,

"LOOK AT DAT WHITE BOY STEPPING IN DAT SHIT!!!!"

I will never forget that.

Anyway...because of the precision formation everyone behind me stepped in it. There were about 12 of us that had to take our shoes off and put them in a bag before we got back on the bus. No one gave me a hard time even though everyone heard the kid scream because that was they way it was with us back in the day.

In January I was fired from a federal law enforcement agency for refusing to target a particular class of Americans, and for refusing to order my subordinates from doing the same.

I nearly lost my house and my kids (both of which I got in the divorce).

Were it not for the incomparable generosity of the Horde, I would have.

And now, I have a private sector job (contracting), and am financially stable. Absent you wonderful people, my life would look much, much different.

You are correct but there's an exception to this rule. If your lady asked for the appliance then it's completely fine. My SIL always asks for appliances. I still pick on my brother for giving his wife a vacuum and he keeps saying that's what she wanted. YMMV
