Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Wednesday Morning RantAnd there is always something to celebrate. Maybe you had a great year and have nothing but bounty to celebrate. Maybe you had a lousy year full of tribulations, as is distressingly common. But there is always something good worth acknowledging. When Lincoln founded our great national holiday, we weren't exactly sauntering through our salad days of joy and luck. We were a nation at war with itself, brother against brother. And yet, even then, there were things for which we could give thanks. Thanksgiving is the most truly inclusive holiday on anyone's calendar. It is a universalist holiday, and a civic holiday. It is prayerful though not religious. It is national though not exclusive. It is not for some but not others. It is about one of the few common threads linking all men: gratitude, and the capacity for gratitude. It applies to and is for all of us. Thanksgiving is an American holiday through and through and is emblematic of our American culture. Whether one is an American by birth or an American by choice, this is our great time to celebrate what we have and who we are. So the turkey came out dry or the cranberries were too tart (or not tart enough) or your blowhard cousin can't stop running his mouth or some drunk relative spills wine on the rug. Things can go wrong. Things can cost too much and be too much work. Regardless of the state of the world or the stresses or expenses of hosting or of travel or of being in close quarters or of having to work or being alone on the holiday, I sincerely hope everyone can find joy and reflect on his blessings - however numerous or sparse - during our great American celebration of gratitude. Happy Thanksgiving.Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The Vigilant Fox 🦊 @VigilantFox 14h REPORT: The Democratic Party is in chaos—Michael Moore has turned on Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders might abandon ship. Moore blasted Biden's warmongering, saying, “Seriously? This is your legacy? This is how you want to go out? In a blaze of horror? Like, if Joe’s got to go, we all got to go with him? Right into World War Three?” “We’re hearing rumblings in Democrat circles that it’s gotten so bad that Bernie Sanders is thinking about officially leaving and starting a third party,” @JesseBWatters reported. Dem strategist James Carville says that Democrats don't even know where the freaking light switch is. “People will call me and say, ‘Do this or do that.’ But I’m trying to find the light switch here, dude, and I can’t—the wall is blank right now. I'm'a say this much, as much as I complain, I've still got loads to be thankful for. Finding a good church (at last!) has been a major boon to my spirit and my mind. I've got a roof over my head and maybe not three square meals a day, but I don't starve. My clothes may be ragged but I have them. I do have good friends still. Maybe now I can start putting the other pieces together with sanity seeming to return...so a little more hope in that area.

They were saved in 2016 by the GOP ganging up with them against Trump. It was also within the realm of normal political losses. 2020 would have shattered the party, but the cheat kept them together. It was obvious that the frictions within the party were not actually fixable, but patronage (positions, money, and power) papers over a lot. 2024 is going to strain the fractions in the D Party A LOT. We seem to live in our own little bubble here at the HQ. Here's a ray of reality from DU:
"80 million expected to travel for the holiday - just 3 weeks ago they couldn't afford eggs! You will never convince me that this election was about the price of eggs. President Biden's economy coming out of the pandemic was chugging along pretty good, and rates were coming down. This was clearly about race/sex, and specifically a black woman trying to win the presidency. Voters (many males & also some female) decided they'd rather go with the white, male felon. The Surprising Statistics Behind Thanksgiving Eve Drinking
Thanksgiving Eve isn’t just a small bump in alcohol consumption—it’s a massive spike. According to a report from Alcohol.org, beer sales alone increase by 270% compared to an average day. Liquor sales also see a significant rise of 114%, while wine sales jump by 68%. These statistics even outpace other well-known drinking holidays like New Year’s Eve and St. Patrick’s Day. In some cities, alcohol-related incidents such as DUIs and drunk driving accidents also increase during this time. Nationwide, the U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reported a sharp rise in alcohol-related accidents during this period. Usually the tree goes up right after Halloween. Sometimes a bit earlier but we had a ton of renovations this year. And the kids of our friends and neighbours come over every year to decorate the tree. Very informal. Just 2.5 to 3 hours. We get pizza and the kids get presents which started in year 2. This is regular thing with Bernie, though. He has always sat as an Independent who caucuses with the Dems in the Senate. When he ran for president in ‘16 & ‘20, he joined the Democrats for the primaries and then immediately left the part as soon as he lost. Hubbymayhem has to work tomorrow. He's off on Friday. The boy spawn and his lady have full day schedule tomorrow for Thanksgiving stuff with her family. So we are doing our Thanksgiving on Friday! Not shopping, not working, and not stressing. Just enjoying a meal and spending time together.
Unless we have to cart Hubbymayhem to the ER. He has something going on with his leg that looks like he could have a blood clot. DVT can be a problem for truck drivers. There will almost certainly be a doctor visit either Friday or Saturday. Which could interfere with the not stressing part of the plan. If any of you praying maniacs want to toss a few for Hubbymayhem, it will be appreciated. I will make the pumpkin pie and the apple pie tomorrow. James Carville acknowledging (The New Republic, The Daily Blast with Greg Sargent, November 26, 2024), for example - Sargent: A big part of the problem is the communication channels. Even including with working-class voters. To go back to your original point, the Biden administration and the Democratic agenda can be more populist and should be more populist economically—left populism. It should be more, there should be more. But allowing for that, the problem isn’t just policy, it’s also communication. Carville: Well, to me the problem is we don’t even know how people receive the information. So until we find out how they’re getting the information, then we can work on the information that we provide to people. But we’re not sure how they get it. We know that they’re not reading The New Republic or The New York Times. They’re not listening ... And they, too, are more alike than different. Posted by: L - Rooster today, feather duster tomorrow.
