If the pliers are good steel, they will survive being bent back to shape. I have been known to bend or otherwise alter tools to make them perform as specific task. Man is a tool-making animal, after all.

30 Looks like someone used the jaw on the right for prying. Stick it in the vise and bend the jaw until it is mostly straight. Then close the jaws together and tap them with a hammer on your anvil. Then do a little grinding to get the jaws aligned on the side. After that heat them up until cherry red with a #0 tip on your oxy-acetylene torch and quench in oil. Then, throw them away and go buy some new ones.

That could be gamed either way. Wrenches have to have an opening a little larger than their nominal size, so that they can be easily slipped over the fastener hex. What that tells me is that the Snap-On wrench was manufactured to a slightly tighter tolerance than the HF one. Does that make it better? Maybe. Does that make it enough better to justify the huge difference in price? Maybe not.

36 Quality tool are usually smaller and stronger than cheaper tools.
One can get that SnapOn into that tight spot easier and have more room to work it. Also using that long cheater pipe is less likely to break it.

This year saw an explosion of flyers advertising Xmas light installation. Obviously, it's a way for the lawn service crews to keep busy during winter. Presumably, you'll also pay them to take the lights down.

I needed an oddball flare nut wrench once to change fuel injector lines on a Chevy 6.2 Diesel. Got a cheap six-point socket the right size, and welded it into the eye of a cheap combination wrench, and slit it to go over the tube. Worked fine. I stall have it in my wrench drawer.

There are a number of finishes that are appropriate. You can use rustoleum stove paint, though that wears off quickly
You can get the handle off while you are cleaning it, and heat it very hot and mop on linseed oil to get a finish similar to the finish on cast iron.
You can also use any of the bluing/browning metal fishishes.
You can stick it in a tub of salty water and let it rust outside a couple of days on a humid day, then use coarse steel wool to knock down the rust, and then coat it with linseed oil. You can also scrub it with naval jelly for a similar finish

Generally, though, these will all wear off as you use the shovel and you can also save time by just keeping the metal clean by cleaning it after using it, and not worrying too much about the flash rush on the bare metal, it will turn into a "plum brown" finish on its own. Keep the handle oiled with linseed and mop the blade with it once in a while too.

Every other toaster has been dull, and pointless and felt like it was made to be thrown away yearly, ALL TOASTERS SHOULD BE THIS COOL, DAMMIT!

The stock was made from stock with roasted beef bones. Now it's in the pressure cooker with beef rib bows that have a lot of meat still on them and more veggies. Will strain, pull the meat off the bones and add to the veggies in the pot.

The old tools are the best. I have an ancient (Pre-Cambrian Era) Vacuum Jar Cap Lifter - "Miracle" by name. It's a combination beer bottle cap remover, lid lifter, and screw driver. I use this thing all the time.

I think I picked it up when I was going to a ton of estate auctions and bidding on boxes of knickknacks and paddywhacks.

158 I have a hard bound memoranda book that I use daily, and the end papers have torn letting the block of bound papers flip loose.

I fixed that by cutting some new endpapers from a remainder roll of wallpaper that has its own glue applied, wetted them down and glued them to the inside to hold things stable again. I am hoping it will last until I use the book up.

It is a cheap hard bound book I picked up at a thrift store, but I had hoped to have gotten something a bit more durable.

My father had a 2 1/2 foot cut length of railway rail.
Used it for an anvil.

Heat your pliers with a blowtorch and use a ball pean hammer to flatten the pliers on an anvil back to useable shape.
Don't forget to dip them in cold water after hammering.

179 I’ve faced similar. 20 years ago, my wife used my needle-nosed pliers one time, twisted them, and now the tips don’t line up at all. Understand these were my father’s pliers, and he was a WWII vet who died in 1998. Yes, there was a loud (over)reaction. You just can’t replace things like that, and I have a lot of things like that.

However, the end result provided this:

1. She respectfully never uses my tools. If she needs something, she goes out and buys whatever I advise her to get. eg: She wanted to put a nail in the wall for a picture, so she bought an Estwing 20s rip hammer, just like my 35 year old one. Home Depot guy said it was overkill. Yep. But I advised always to buy quality to last lifetimes.
2. Now we have sets of tools in the house. Nice ones. Hers in the basement, mine in garage.
3. And this is the biggie: She has never argued about the price of a tool.

Over this topic, there has been a lasting peace in our house since that day. I wish that upon all of you.

Buy a couple of wire attachments of various stiffness. Apply the correct one to any metal that you need cleaned. For example - Helena's rusted garden tools.

It will clean that kind of stuff down to bare steel in less than 60 seconds.

New rule for work projects - always grab my eye and ear protection since they are so handy!

I used to wear my eye protection for the angle grinder, but now have added the ear protection. I now grab both, even for tiny jobs using the Dremel.

The whine of the Dremel now hurts my 29+ ears.

Needed to grind a tiny bit of brass last weekend with the Dremel, and heard the sound clearly when the burr came free and hit my hearing protection hard!

Certainly re-iterated the caution to always wear your eye protection, even it is only a 15 second job!

We all grew up with that as our main soda pop bottle opener. Before my Mom died, my two sisters argued (jokingly, I think) about who would get it.

I went online and found and bought two of them. When Mom died, I slipped the two into the drawer and kept the original for myself. One sister said she was surprised to find two in the drawer, but she took one. Other sister, last I heard, decided not to want it, so I don't know what happened to the other one. I never admitted to doing it.

We re-roofed, built 2 small outbuildings, cut saplings (yay, cordless recip for tight spaces!) and completed countless projects!

Terrific value for the price IMO.

I gave up this year. Paying a landscape crew. They custom build the light(led) strings, install, take down and store them. Next year it is half as much to do as the lights will be built. Or I may just leave them up all year. I'm also in Montana so some years it was cold AF. No more.

Installed little screw-eyes along underside of railing & use zip-ties to hold up the lights. Done in less than 20 minutes. Take-down in less than 10.
