That is called shrinkflation 18-1. Mask the cost increases by decreasing the amount in the package. So maybe the same # of candies as last year but each one is smaller than it had been.

My first world problem is it’s rainy, the cats are cuddly, but I have a waitlisted class at 2 pm I need to go teach. I will be fine once I get there, a full class is a ton of fun to teach because the energy is bumping. But I am having to force myself out the door right now! 😂

They now have about 15 gradations of sizes, e.g. "Fun size," "Party Size," "Snack Size," "Bite Size," "Mini," etc. etc., as a way to disguise that they're giving you less and less on a per pound basis.

So here's a problem...
The girl spawn drives a crappy Ford 500. Those were only made for two years and didn't sell well. It cost around $2000 used from a private seller. Two years later, it still smells like cigarettes smoke. Cannot get that smell out. It's had a few mechanical issues, some that can't be fixed because the repair would cost more than the car is worth. This includes the a/c unit. They would literally have to pull the engine to fix that!
Anywho... The car also has no get up and go. Tromp the accelerator to the floor and it still takes a minute to get up to 35mph.

Because that's the natural state of the shirt. The seams are on the "inside" when you wear it, but they were on the outside when the shirt was made. Entropy wants it to be inside-out since that's a "lower energy" state with less stress on the fabric.

My cupboards are pretty bare and I have just enough cream for one more mug of coffe so I will have to overcome my inertia today and go shopping. Lately I will keep punting on shopping and just use whatever staples I have around until I need either horse feed or cream for my coffee. Usually I can analyze myself and figure out why I'm avoiding something but I don't know on my shopping avoidance the last year or so. It isn't hard and doesn't take all that long. Prices are annoying but its just me and I make a decent salary.

Someone I know had mothballs in their house and the smell became unbearable.
They have had the air ducts cleaned, replaced appliances etc. Part of me wonders if it's psychosomatic. I offered them my air purifiers.

The girl was at the stop sign at the bottom of an off ramp from I69. Big rig behind her without a trailer. She started to pull out, realized the oncoming traffic was moving fast enough to be a problem with that no giddyup issue and braked. Truck had started to roll forward for his turn at the stop sign and CRUNCH!
No injuries! But the back passenger side corner is fucked up. Frame is okay and the car is still drivable. The lens on the brake light was smashed. Red lens replacement tape for the temporary win! And the latch on the trunk is fucked up. Yeh we wired that trunk shut like a trailer park top gear mechanic!
Cops were called, insurance info was exchanged. So now we wait for the police report .
The truck driver? Oh he was from Texas. He had three gold teeth and wore pimped out sunglasses with purple lenses and rhinestones on the gold frames. Nice guy.
I think I heard his truck laughing at the silly car.

Bendix was exonerated from any responsibility of the Montauk incident, but the heads of the R and D department were willing to admit that there were specific risks, which they would engineer to avoid, specivically due to un-controlled resonation.

So, he will get the print version mailed to him and it looks like I will enjoy the free online version that comes with it....
I'm hoping it will reduce the stress he gets from reading the local paper (that isn't even local anymore-its printed in Madison WI, that bastion of conservatism lol ...and mailed to our city)....

Someone I know had mothballs in their house and the smell became unbearable.
They have had the air ducts cleaned, replaced appliances etc. Part of me wonders if it's psychosomatic. I offered them my air purifiers.
Any other suggestions?

Not sure about camphor smell, but ozone is an incredible general-purpose destenchifier (also probably applicable to the Ford 500 Madam Mayhem was posting about).
They're pretty cheap on Amazon and work extremely well in my experience. Do one floor at a time, maybe in two batches if there's a lot of floor area.
Downsides: you need to be out of the house, as do pets. It takes time (a few hours at a stretch for the machine to run, another couple of hours before going in, to make sure there's enough normal atmosphere). It will leave your house smelling "crisp" for a few hours or days. It passes quickly.
Upside: cheap and easy, do-it-yourself job.

Moment of pride yesterday. Was shaving and the sink got clogged. I was going to reach for the Liquid Plumr but then I remembered that I had a plunger made for sinks.

So you run out of cream, punch open a can of evap, use it in a couple of cups of coffee, and then the remainder is wasted, because you went to the store and bought cream. I keep heifer dust on hand for that reason. It keeps forever, so I always have some ersatz cream on hand, should the real deal run out.
I think they may make UHT pasteurized cream in the little one-shot cups that keeps without refrigeration, but that is not ofen found in stores.

High-efficiency washers can leave some water behind and water may be used as a part of the balancing system. It can get rancid and mildew can be an issue with HE washers.
Run the wash cycle, but don't bother with the special washer cleaning stuff. It's a ripoff. Put a full cup, maybe cup and a half (the cup that comes with the stuff, I mean) of Oxiclean or generic equivalent into the drum and run the cleaning cycle. It will work and costs virtually nothing. Plus Oxiclean is good for most kinds of laundry anyway, in addition to detergent.
If your HE washer does not have a machine cleaning cycle, just run it on the "rinse and spin" or equivalent cycle, hot water, maximum fill level.

I live in Idaho, where we can still have a few nice things, but I sometimes shop in The People's Republic of Washington State. Therefore, I keep a few extra bags in the car in case needed to avoid the per-bag charge over there.
The nearest wallyworld doesn't even *have* bags at the self-checkouts anymore. Heh. Wonder why?

It balances out really nicely. HE washers *are* highly efficient, even taking into account periodic washer cleaning cycles. I give mine an empty cleaning cycle a couple of times per yer.
And unlike dishwashers, making washing machines highly efficient didn't cause the cycle time to double or triple. Modern high-efficiency dishwashers work well, but they take freaking forever to run. Washing machines, not so much. The downsides with those are different - like needing to clean your cleaner because they don't clean themselves anymore (the margins are gone).

Agitatorless design, oversized drum. The capacity is ludicrous (commercial capacity) and it works *extremely* well on most things, plus it's gentler on the items being washed.
Agitatorless designs are witchcraft and they kick ass. Except, in my experience, with a small number of very bulky items - think queen or larger sheets or jumbo-sized towels. It's very hard to get it to balance properly and more often than not, I need to go rearrange things when the onboard sensor says, "too much vibration, Imma give up now."
But those happen much less often than normal clothes and other stuff, and I'm much happier on average with my machine's high capacity and excellent overall performance.
Front-loaders won't have that problem, but front-loaders are *way* more expensive.

At the link below (remember to remove the space), you can find chef Gemma Stafford's recipes for making flavored creamers at home (Bailey's, French Vanilla, and Pumpkin Spice) ... I believe all use cans of sweetened condensed milk but, in one of her videos, she mentions there are additional instructions at her website for making the creamers dairy-free and soy-free ... I actually made a batch of the Pumpkin Spice Creamer today and the flavor was wonderful ... Only change I'll make in the future is to strain the creamer through fine cheesecloth (rather than a metal mesh strainer) to remove not only the pumpkin puree but also more of the spice "dust" which was not visually appealing in my coffee mug ... Pricewise, it cost about 14 cents per ounce to make roughly 30 ounces of DIY creamer.

"If you want to kill YOURSELF, that's fine, but you can't hurt ME with your nasty habit" was the justification for all the public smoking bans. Even then, it wasn't true (secondhand smoke is unpleasant, not dangerous) but it was a good enough reason.
But they also now ban e-cigs/vaping in public. It wasn't about their precious health, it was about punishing smokers and making them comply.

My FWP is that I have a cheapo Poulan chainsaw. Instead of just using two nuts to tighten the bar, which is what keeps the tension on the chain, they came up with some kind of knob that is supposed to be tightened by hand. And it only tightens down on one of the studs, instead of both.
And as you could imagine, it doesn't do a great job and after literally one cut, the chain gets loose. Even after tightening it with pliers to get extra leverage. The plastic knob thingy finally broke.
One way to fix it is to throw the knob away and remove plastic around the 2nd stud and just use two nuts. But, this knob is in a side cover, and the cover is made of plastic that has no straight edges or parallel sides, so it's hard to clamp in a vise .
I made a little fixture to mount the cover, and I milled out enough plastic so a flanged nut will fit inside the pocket. There was a piece of steel embedded in this cover so the nut tightens metal to metal, so there shouldn't be any plastic creep.
Now I just have to try it out.

My dad passed away in February 2020. As executor of his estate, all of his stuff got changed to my address. I still get mail, junk mail, for him. My daughter calls it "Pop's Fan Mail". I even tried to unsubscribe to some of that crap, but here it is!

My complaint on coffee creamer is the small, about 16oz size is not available. I only see I guess 32oz sizes. Sometimes a small one goes bad before I get through it all so a big one is pointless, might as well start by dumping 12 down the drain.

Colorado has that BYOB or .10 for the store's bag. Wally's when they don't run out gives paper bags. NOT the old school ones that one could reuse if you remembered to bring them to the store but thin crap that just barely holds together long enough to get the groceries into the house but will have rips and need to go in the burn barrel right away. But I think every stores plastic bags are useless now too. They are all so thin that they get holes with the first use. Forget about reusing them for tiny garbage liners or whatever.

My *real* FWP for today: using a measuring tape and mock-ups to figure out how to seat 17-20 people for Thanksgiving and still have room for a buffet table.

Probably a few stores do still have high quality bags. But Wally's paper bags are just barely adequate for 1 use.
And I have decent well water and like to just refill plastic bottles. I used to save the bottle if I bought bottled water on a road trip. Now most bottled water uses such thin plastic you have to be careful not to crush the bottle when you take the lid off. They do crush nicely to take less room in the garbage at least.

Mom had a canister-style vacuum when I was a kid. The thing lasted for decades and finally the day came when bags were no longer made for it.

It's very hard to get it to balance properly and more often than not, I need to go rearrange things when the onboard sensor says, "too much vibration, Imma give up now."

Just had a conversation with our daughter, she's involved in international banking and sanction-compliance. She's pretty certain business is going to boom. "The uncertainty is gone," per RBC Daughter. She's been in banking for a couple of decades (started as a teller) and now has her own minions. For what it's worth: she's optimistic.

Some of it *could* be true. Businesses - ones that survive, anyway - *do* try to front-run likely changes.
But I kinda doubt it's happening much. Bonuses, maybe but even that isn't real likely. Layoffs are much less likely because staffing decisions aren't short-payoff. I suspect either of the following is more likely:
1. It's a lie
2. Decisions were made last quarter and the boss is using the election as an excuse so his people are less angry at him.

Sports are a good, safe topic a lot of people there cared about. I listened to sports talk radio to make sure I could always talk about it with people. It was a good investment of otherwise sunk time and made me much better at smalltalk and being approachable.
