Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Polls: Trump Winning Latinos 49-38%, Has Historic 29% Share of Black VoteOne big caveat: When a poll of, let's say, 1000 people claims a margin-of-error rate of 3%, that's for the whole 1000 people. When you start digging into sub-groups, the margin of error get much bigger because the fewer people you poll, the worse the margin of error. If you ask 1000 people about voting intentions, you might wind up with 130 black voters. The margin of error for that is big. Indeed, the margin of error shown below for Latinos is 9%. And that mean that Kamala's share of Latino voters could be as high as 47%, and Trump's as low as 40%. But that's still nearly even! And the poll on black voters is from Fox, who uses a notoriously Democrat-skewing pollster! The poll on Latinexexes comes via Suffolk.A Democrat panelist on Crooked CNN is wondering, Hey, maybe we should lay off calling Hispanics "Latinx" as if they're majority-transgender. They don't seem to like that. And apparently Kamala Harris agrees. She "copy-pasted her plan for black men and changed "black" to "Latino."" But she is suddenly saying "Latino" instead of "Latinx."
But forget all that. Now that people are voting, Halperin say that the polls are less important than early voters' partisan identification, and based on what we know of the early vote so far, Trump will win:

====== No. The margin for error is on each data point. So, the Trump high is 58, his low is 40. Kamala's high is 47 and her low is 29. Also, that's within 1 standard deviation. The thing about the black vote as it seems to be manifesting in the early vote:
The gender gap in the black vote in GA is the biggest it's ever been. It's about 23%. It's pretty much the sole source of the gender gap in the entire state. Meaning that, more than likely, black women are turning out to vote for Kamala but black men are just...not voting. Now, that is not going to have effects on machine states and cities like Philly who will just make up the gap with fake ballots, but in places where voters actually matter, which may include GA this year, we'll see, it will have a material affect. I'm not worried about Harris's polling among minorities.
That's because when you start digging into sub-groups, the margin of error gets much bigger because the fewer people you poll, the worse the margin of error. Or, more likely, Democrats will go into election day knowing how many ballots they have to cheat to win because most of Republican vote will already be counted. --- But, as noted in the post, in NV, most of those early votes on the R side are low-propensity voters. Meaning, we're still can cash in the usual reliable Election Day votes. 2016 and 2020, the Dems won NV and NM easily as they'd ran up such leads in early voting. The true believers for the Dems will all vote as they are told. The squishes however I think will break to Trump. My wife is a high school teacher in NYC - hard to have a more liberal environment. She is usually pretty non-political (and generally doesn't vote at all) but she is all aboard the trump train this election and actually has other teachers (and some students) in NYC who will be doing the same. I don't believe Trump will win NYC, but if some of the members of the freaking NY teachers union are flipping....

>>> 149 One thing that continues to annoy me about the Trump campaign. I have seen absolutely no effort to counter the false information from the Harris campaign that Trump will invoke a National Sales Tax. Additionally, I have seen no counter to the more recent false campaigning from the Harris camp that Trump is planning to cut Social Security.

a Large Group of Lebanese Reporters arrived at the Hospital this morning, but found that a Door which was referred to by the Arab Spokesman for the Israel Defense Force, as an Entrance to the Bunker, was Locked and being Guarded by several Armed Men. A huge and usually overlooked point about margin-or-error is that within the margin of error every point has exactly the same likelihood of occurrence. There is no increase of likelihood bias toward the mean: plus or minus 9% means that every point within that 9% is indistinguishable from every other point within that 9%. A margin of error is an acknowledgement that "we cannot measure this any closer than this."

Halperin has his own biases, but he has been consistent for two months saying that the internal data from both campaigns showed a different picture for Harris in the post Labor Day environment.
--- He was sounding the alarm over a month ago, tried telling the Dems that Harris was on track to slip down to where Joe was before he dropped out.* Basically telling them, "what you're doing isn't working and you need to address how you're different from Joe." Instead, they JoyJoyJoy through their convention, dodged all media and, when finally asked, said "no change from Joe." *those leaked polls, almost certainly insider campaign polls, were brutal for Joe. If Trump wins, the Neo-Left, or NeverTrump, are going to start talking like the Doug in Exile tweet: It's not about Trump; it's just how awful Biden and Harris have been. So put us back in charge, and this party will really take off!

There is an actual person on the Utah ballot for president named Lucifer "Justin Case" Everylove.
Why not? This election has already gone to hell. Reporting from KSL: "But Everylove said he hopes people can look beyond his name.“There were over a thousand people in Utah, who could look past it,” said Everylove. “And realize that, you know, there is no name, there is no spirit, there is no being beyond the boundaries of love.” The lieutenant governor’s office said Everylove met all the qualifications to be on the state’s ballot as an unaffiliated presidential candidate: he gathered 1,000 signatures and paid a $500 fee. “He just jumped through the hoops to get on the Utah ballot and we had to put it on there,” Utah County Clerk Aaron Davidson said. “He probably filed up at the state, so it’s on the ballot. But I doubt he’s going to get many votes.” Posted by: LizLem at October 22, 2024 05:16 PM (QAK8m) 311

(see Walter Dean Burnham). Arguably Reagan's 1980 election was more a dealignment elections where the the New Deal coalition finally ran out of gas. GOP did not really get parity in legislative races and statehouses until the 90's is part of that argument and lagged the Dems in party id for almost all those years. It depended on low turnout negative races by and large which is where the GOPe consultants are still stuck on. We really have not seen massive turnout in an election for various reasons until you get to the 1890's before voter registration laws and secret ballots. 2020 on the part of Trump was such.
