34 Perhaps P. Jean-Dupré is a nom de plume. Perhaps this is not the name of Del Marle’s sitter; perhaps the sitter was interested in the publication. An intriguing lead in this mystery points to Max Jacob, a poet and critic who was deeply involved with the Cubist movement—and whose profile resembles the one seen in this portrait.

The way I analyze art is..

first, do I find this appealing or pleasing to look at.

second, if it's not pleasing, does it say something.

Third, if it's not pleasing or its says nothing, is there at least technique or some component of color or composition that I can learn something from.

Alt Hordian take: Did Vic pass, or did he assume a new identity which he will carry on for the next century? Like Conner McCleod, but with less head chopping?

Uh, back on topic. So this piece is very...it's very muted, isnt it? The yellow stripes around the shoulders are evocative of, uh...Wolverine back in the early All New, All Different X-Men years.

101 This is kind of fascinating. I prefer representational art -you know, people and dogs and cars that *look* like people and dogs and cars. But something about the cubists' and surrealists' work entertains me. In this one, the orange flares on either side of the figure, his tightly buttoned suit, his eyeglasses or maybe pince-nez, the splashes of blue on the left . . . yeah, you "can't look away."

In linguistics, prosody (/ ˈ p r ɒ s ə d i, ˈ p r ɒ z-/) [1] [2] is the study of elements of speech that are not individual phonetic segments (vowels and consonants) but which are properties of syllables and larger units of speech, including linguistic functions such as intonation, stress, and rhythm.

112 So sad to hear of Vic's passing. May he rest in His peace.

For years Vic did the VNN (Vic news network) and was a morning staple. I always thought of him as a curmudgeon - and thought highly of him. He was often posting that his neighbor would come over and "mooch" some of his brown beverage (assume bourbon? Could be beer too I guess).

Vic - you are in good company now with other notable Horde members who have gone on to their rest. Enjoy the discourse with them and know that you are missed here. (wipes tear away).

He and Mike Hammer are facing tough times in Asheville as is the rest of the area. They are getting zero national coverage. It's like it never happened. I cannot give anymore to charities helping out, I give to Samaritan's purse. Due to our son's situation we are supporting him directly financially. Please, if you can don't forget those in Helene's aftermath.

I Walked With A Zombie/The Seventh Victim: Produced By Val Lewton (1943) (Jacques Tourneur) (US) (1943) (Mark Robson)

141 TRIVIA ... Yesterday's artwork featured a table designed for playing a game named CAROM BILLIARDS (also known as French billiards or carambole billiards) ... The table has no pockets, and the set of balls typically includes one red ball and two white balls (with one of the white balls marked) ... The goal of carom billiards is to score points by using the cue ball to hit both the opponent's cue ball and the object ball in a single shot.

People also see how other Democrat policies are pushing everyone onto electric power (e.g. outlawing natural gas stoves, pushing EVs) while doing nothing to build up electric power infrastructure.

We're on to the whole Nudge trick: nudge us into electric everything, and then when the brown-outs become common, lecture us to stop using so much electricity, get rid of our cars and our big homes, and A/C to Save the Planet you guys!

196 TRIVIA ...

I have seen exactly ONE carom billiards parlor.
It was at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in St. Louis.
Must have been a dozen tables with red felt in a huge room.

Then, there are these guys, who rolled in from all over the nation. I've rambled on about the Veteran's Restoration Quarters, which was destroyed, and won't start in on it again, but these folks simply called without being asked, and said 'We're on our way'. They showed up a day or two later, from everywhere, with heavy equipment and 50 or so people. Animals, they are. And, this is nasty, nasty work. (Liaison- Place your bets! What racist attack did Trump launch?!?)

Trump used a racist stereotype to attack Vice President Kamala Harris and described his desire to exercise “extreme power” as president during an event Tuesday that was billed as a summit to highlight his support among Latinos.

“I was going to hit her really hard on the trail today, but now I don’t have to, because she’s off,” Trump said of Harris, who is spending the day in Washington between campaign travel on the other days of the week. “You know why? She’s lazy as hell, and she’s got that reputation.”

Trump’s coded language tries to undermine Harris’s qualifications based on her race and gender, said Rachel Noerdlinger, a Democratic communications strategist and senior adviser to Win With Black Women. ... “Trump is reviving the old trope that Black women are unqualified for jobs historically held by White men,” she said. “Not having a campaign event while you’re in the middle of also governing isn’t ‘lazy’ — making almost 300 trips to the golf course as president is.”

Many years ago there was a case here where a GI had married a stripper (don't do it, kids!). Things went sour, of course.

The dude also had a ton of life insurance, from which he'd neglected to remove her as the beneficiary.

She got herself a new boyfriend -- a biker with a long, long rap sheet of violent crimes.

390 I've been looking at the early vote numbers in Florida this morning. Never seen anything like it.

Overall, with absentee and early in person, Republicans lead Democrats by 109K statewide.

Democrats are winning the early in person vote in only 4 counties; Alchua (Gainesville), Leon (Tallahassee), Orange (Orlando), and Broward.

Significant is they are losing in Jacksonville, the entire east coast, Tampa, St. Pete, Sarasota, Ft. Myers, Palm Beach, and Miami. Not to mention the entire panhandle and the Gulf coast.

How much Republican voting has shifted from same-day to early? More, same, or less than Dem?
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at October 23, 2024 10:50 AM (d9fT1)

========

Analysis out of NC and GA is pointing to:

Early voting for high propensity voters of both parties are roughly even, slight advantage to Republicans (turning out those slightly less).

The story of the 2024 election isn't that Republicans are suddenly embracing early voting. 2024 early voting is actually a bit down for Republicans where the data's being tracked outside of certain pockets (like GA rural counties). The story of the 2024 election early voting right now is that Democrats are early voting at FAR lower rates than in 2020.

There are millions of early Dems from 2020 who are simply not voting...yet. Will they suddenly show up on election day? Were they even real to begin with?

I don't have a crystal ball, but it seems difficult for Dems to climb out of the hole they're in.
