I've had bad insomnia for five nights straight. I think I know the culprit: I was taking Afrin before bed, which causes insomnia and also dries my mouth out so much that sleeping is uncomfortable. So I won't take that any more (or at least not later than 2pm). But today, I am demolished. Unrelated: Tim Walz cosplayed as a "normal guy:"

We have a federal workforce that is not only insulated from the effects of a bad economy, but who also profit from America's decay. The worse things get, the more dependent people become on government, the more job security, money and power they can demand.
On top of that, we have thousands and thousands of DEI highers making way more than they are worth with zero marketable real-world skills who would be thrown to the curb by any properly functioning government. Under what authority are Judges doing this? Who is suing to get this stopped? There is no standing for a voter to sue until they are purged, and can show its wrong... WHICH HAS NOT HAPPENED. Yes and no. A traditional venture capitalist invests in startups or near startups. Romney was a "private equity investor" given that he invested in or bought established companies. But I don't agree he just sold off assets of distressed companies. Bain is well known for NOT slashing and trashing companies. Within every department and agency, establish task-forces dedicated to doing something that agency should be doing that recalcitrant employees will absolutely despise. Populate the task force with those government employees who are most resistant to supervision by the new administration. Give those task forces a deadline for a final report of Jan 19, 2029. A few examples:
FBI task force on Antifa, populated by the entire current 7th floor. DOJ J6 prosecutor’s division task force on riots of summer of 2020 EPA task force on Gold King mine disaster, before, during, and after the event. NOAA task force on manipulation of government weather data Expect no results. The will do nothing, spin their wheels, or quit. I recall one colleague in particular, when I worked for the government - the guy lived in Maryland and called himself an "independent", which (in Maryland) is really just a RINO who's ripped the GOP label off because he doesn't want to embarrass himself among his inside-the-beltway friends - and his number one criterion for choosing which candidate to vote for was whether that candidate, as president, might somehow decide to eliminate his snug little government job. The candidate could have been a communist, a cannibal - even an actual Republican - as long as he, or she, posed no threat to his job security.

At mid-level to SES, of union &/or management group, most likely those caught in a trap between the very tiptop of their group and having knowledge of vetting or lack thereof, purchasing or lack thereof, illegal hiring, discrimination against vets, "strange" agency analyses & programs, etc. In other words, time and $ as one and the same. Never steal and don't sign anything not absolutely necessary and enforceable, i.e., health, life insurance... Imagine sitting home for more than a year and being even a mid to upper level manager asked why didn't you appear on the job for that period of time, how your staff was managed, how were responses to FOIAs prepared and where is the log maintained, the accuracy of time and attendance sheets, verifiability & legality of inspections and cases, and so on. 😬 >The most recent significant "Reduction in Force" (RIF) within the federal government occurred as part of the Federal Workforce Restructuring Act of 1994 which mandated workforce downsizing across executive branch agencies. Fed Gov employs about 4.5m people. They're the largest employer in the country, sadly.
About half of that is military. A lot of them could stand to find other work, but let's assume every one of them is vital and must retain his position. That leaves 2.25m civilian FedGov employees. I'd argue that all of those could be hurled into enormous pits full of rape dogs, and the nation would be better for it. But let's be very generous and assume 25% of those serve some barely discernible fuckin' purpose. That leaves Kamala Harris + 1,685,999 people. Speaking with Tucker Carlson, political journalist Mark Halperin believes if Donald Trump wins back the presidency in three weeks, it will “cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.”
Near the end of their two-hour discussion (which is well worth listening to), Carlson says, “Let’s say Trump wins three weeks from today. What happens? … As you said, a lot of Democrats believe that Trump becoming president is the worst thing that could ever happen.” “I say this not flippantly,” Halperin explains before adding: ”I think it will be the cause of the greatest mental health crisis in the history of the country.” Posted by: SMOD at October 16, 2024 05:20 PM (AFudc) 265

Afrin is sort of addictive. It's a mild stimulant. Your sinuses will swell up after awhile without it. But if you stop using it for a freakin' week, it'll go away.
My mom always just said "don't use it more than a couple days Your mom said that because she read it on the actual product label. I don't think it's "addictive" in the usual medical sense but it's certainly habit-forming. You squirt it up your nose and suddenly you can breathe again and it's awesome. And then it wears off and you can't breathe and it sucks. Rinse, repeat, etc and each cycle gets shorter. And supposedly causes some kind of tissue damage over time. Taken care of. The federal 'pension system' changed years ago. Yeah, if in before the change, could remain within the pension system - which turned out to be not as lucrative as the newer program.
"Congress created the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) in 1986, and it became effective on January 1, 1987. Since that time, new Federal civilian employees who have retirement coverage are covered by FERS. FERS is a retirement plan that provides benefits from three different sources: a Basic Benefit Plan, Social Security and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). Two of the three parts of FERS (Social Security and the TSP) can go with you to your next job if you leave the Federal Government before retirement. Continuous 1-gee thrust (9.8 m/s^2 or 32.2 ft/s^2) would not only be quite comfortable, but would obviate things like Hohmann transfer orbits with their long travel times and delays waiting for the planets to “line up” for the transfer. You could go anywhere in the solar system in a matter of days. Yes, total game changer for spaceflight. Trajectories would be thrust forward for half the distance, then turn around and decelerate at 1g, arriving at destination with the correct matching velocity. It would be so fast, you can almost ignore the orbital mechanics for the calculations. Just pretend your target planet is moving in a straight line at constant speed. It would be exact but you can ballpark travel times based on that. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at October 16, 2024 05:53 PM (w6EFb) 391
