  • Turns out 23andMe is a genetic robot vacuum cleaner. (SFGate)

If you used the service - or if anyone in your family did - you should probably log in and delete your data.

This won't do anything but it might work in your favour in the resulting class action lawsuits.

CEO Anne Wojcicki says she's open to takeover offers. Or people who want to buy the company. Either one.

  • Unidentified drones swarmed Langley Air Force Base, and the Pentagon is "stumped". (MSN)

The drones circled the base for seventeen days.

  • The average LLM (AI) jailbreak attempt takes 42 seconds. (SC World)

20% of attacks succeed, and of those, 90% leak confidential information.

  • A detailed review of the Terramaster F8 Plus. (Liliputing)

This is an 8 bay M.2 NAS with 10Gb Ethernet and an 8 core CPU. It's only slightly larger than an external 3.5" hard drive, and can store up to 64TB of data and hold up to 32GB of RAM for running applications (it ships with 16GB as standard, but it uses a regular SO-DIMM slot.)

There's also cheaper F8 Nonplus, with a 4 core CPU and shipping with 8GB of RAM. That should be fine if you just need the server functions and don't want to run apps on it.

  • Gotta catch 'em all, but I'm out of disk space: A Game Freak leak has dumped company info and a terabyte of Pokemons. (Notebook Check)

Game Freak is the company developing the Pokemon games, though the franchise is owned by the Pokemon Company and Nintendo. Anyway, the Skitty is definitely out of the bag now.

  • The Beelink SER9 is the fastest mini-PC you can get right now. (WCCFTech)

It has more than twice the CPU performance and three to four times the graphics performance of my Beelink SER5. But I have three of those and the SER9 costs more than three times as much if you already have memory and SSDs you can reuse.

The Ryzen 370 used in the SER9 only supports LPDDR5X memory, not regular SO-DIMMS, so you can't install your own unless you have a desoldering station and a very steady hand. It does have two M.2 slots though.

But if you don't need three computers and just want something small and quiet that gets the job done including moderate gaming loads, it does.

22 So it looks like the bottom has fallen out of the Wrangler 392.

You can now get low mileage 2021s for 55k, these things were going for well over 100k with some market adjustments putting them at 135k.

I new something was up when I was watching a barret Jackson auction the other day and a pimped out gladiator rubicon with a Heliphant engine only went for 110k.

Something like that was easily getting in the high 100k low 200k a couple of years ago.

I think Stelantis/Jeep is in big trouble.

Posted by: Thomas Bender at October 14, 2024 04:20 AM (yk7js)

23 200K for a *Jeep*??? Does it come with a hot tub and a young Heather Thomas?

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 14, 2024 04:32 AM (omVj0)

24 The only even more hysterical thing is that Jeep is announced they were discontinuing the 392 for the 2025 model year, so they announced the last call edition for 2024 and were charging a premium for it, so people snapped them up thinking they would have a collector item, but because Jeep got a lot of suckers to bite, they are now continuing the 392 into the 25 model year as a final last call, instantly devaluing the 2024 last call edition substantially.

>>200K for a *Jeep*??? Does it come with a hot tub and a young Heather Thomas?

Sadly no. But it does feature a 1000hp Heliphant engine, so that's kind of the same.

28 Did Biden call Elon and congratulate him on Space X's achievement of catching the first 1 stage rocket. I have to be kidding, we all know that he would never do that unless Elon throws his support to Kamala. Past Presidents did that during the NASA rocket tests of the 60's and 70's. Kamala was hoping it would be a big failure and blow up, I'd bet.

>>A *thousand* hp . . .? Where aside from a track could you even begin to get into that kind of power?

Nowhere really, but being that it's a Jeep and typically has an additional 2000 lbs of steel bumpers, winch's, upgraded axels, 40 inch tires, bead lock rims, etc, the 1000hp merely makes the 4 tons of truck move as it should.

Jeeps have notoriously underpowered engines, and when I had my Jeep LS swapped, the extra HP made it peppy but not egregiously so.

All things considered, if I had to do it all over again, I probably would have went with a supercharger rather than a swap.

But, such is life

32 Okay, I'm revising my time-travel plan.

I've been saying for years that instead of killing the chief bad guy from WWII (his rise to power was inevitable, someone nefarious was going to fill that power vacuum even if you took him out), I'd take out a certain jug-eared puppet that has brought this country to its knees. I don't think *his* rise to power was inevitable.

But scratch all that, I've got a new target: Whoever came up with and successfully pushed the idea of "hate crimes," which has led to the abominable notion of "hate speech." Which in turn has led to the industrial censorship complex, an absolute assault on what it means to be an American. Elon Musk is being thwarted in his drive to push America into the future based on "mean things he's said on Twitter," and the same goes for Trump.

"it is right to pray for a sign of God"s favor. As David found, that may be just what we need. But we should not overlook the signs which he has already given us: the support of family and friends, the fellowship of other believers, and the light of each new day. You can be confident he knows your situation no matter how desperate it becomes, and he cares. Ask God today for a sign of his love. It may come in an unexpected way.

Not that I'm in any way a competent theologian or spiritual guide, but just speaking from my own experience... if you're in a bad spot, don't be afraid to in turn show God a sign of your *own* love, too. Love is a two way street.

If you have a rough situation in life, or some kind of crisis, do you turn to your family members and friends and other loved ones and start doubting their affection and blaming them for everything and demanding they make your life better? Or do you examine the situation and see if there's anything *you* can do to make their share of the ordeal better, even if just obliquely or trivially? Maybe the answer is nothing, but it's still a good frame of mind to try to get to, even if it seems difficult in your particular situation.
