New York Times: It's Time to End Masculinity. All Masculinity. Even the So-Called "Positive Masculinity" Exemplified by Tim Walz and Doug Emhoff.
Plus: GAINZZZ

Do tell.

We Can Do Better Than 'Positive Masculinity

By Ruth Whippman

Ms. Whippman is the author of "BoyMom: Reimagining Boyhood in the Age of Impossible Masculinity."

Well that poor boy is a lost soul, huh?

Perhaps it's a predictable irony that in an election cycle that could realistically deliver the first female president, so much of the commentary has been about men. Or rather, not about men exactly, but about "masculinity." Because somehow, in 2024, we still find ourselves unable to talk about men and boys without using masculinity as the basic frame of reference.

The electorate is faced with a choice, the story goes, between two models for masculinity. Toxic versus positive. In response to the vein-popping, furious, felon model of the right, the left is offering us a more morally upstanding and expansive "positive masculinity."

"Positive masculinity" has been around for a while. Most likely coined in early 2000s by psychologists as a way of working with male patients in therapy... Masculinity has had an unfairly bad rap, its proponents argue, becoming permanently shackled to the word "toxic." Positive masculinity is an attempt to rebrand and reinstate it for the next generation, often with the claim that unlike the insecure posturing of the shirt-ripping strongmen, this is in fact "real" manhood.

The model is not a radical departure. Positive masculinity still draws on all the old trappings and anxieties of traditional manliness, the same belief that there is such a thing as a "real man" and the same fears of falling short. As its political standard-bearer, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, Tim Walz, is still required to constantly prove his masculine credentials.

And what a job he's doing proving those credentials!

After the cartoon supervillainy of Donald Trump and the smarmy misogyny of JD Vance, the "positive masculinity" of Walz and his ilk is a joyful relief, and these programs are often doing good work. But when it comes to truly shifting cultural norms for the next generation of boys and allowing them to embrace their full humanity without shame, we might do better to ditch the masculinity rhetoric altogether. Because rather than challenging the old stereotypes and patterns, the whole positive masculinity framework actually seems to be reinforcing them.

...

There is a lurking sexism in the whole positive masculinity conceit. If we have to attach the label "masculine" to a behavior before it can have value to men, then we are subtly communicating that embracing anything associated with women is a demotion, even an indignity. "Positive masculinity" is not about de-gendering universal human qualities, and certainly not about encouraging boys to believe that they could have something to learn from women or female cultural norms.

It's all about de-gendering men.

The Rainbow Mafia talks about the pain of being trained to feel attraction to people you feel no attraction to, and being forced to live an identity which feels ill-fitting, alien, and wrong.

I believe them.

But I guess the plan is to force all boys to live that way, and to force their brains into living the lie of genderless pseudo-homosexuality.

And we're expected to support this. We're expected to consign half of our population to the same hell that LGBT people complain of -- just to make girls feel better, or whatever justification they're giving for their endless war on normal, healthy boys.

An update to an earlier post about the Democrats' inept scramble to convince straight, normie men they totally don't hate them:

yousureaboutthatcringe.jpg

That is, unfortunately, all too real. This hilarious and skillful piece of media was assembled by a sissy jerkoff from the Jimmy Kimmel show.

And now: Does anyone have any GAINZZZ?

I had to go on to a semi-fast. I was eating some "low carb" cookies from Choc Zero. Lemme tell you, if it sounds too good to be truly low-carb, it is.

You got this... you got this... this is all you, dude...

You need motivation to get into shape.

When picking a gym buddy, choose one that's at about your level, not a n00b who will only get in your way.

You also don't want a gym buddy who molests you in the middle of your set.

10 I am now one week away from cutting back on my food. I'm not going to be able to bulk up anymore before the cruise, so the focus turns towards burning fat.

First week, I will mostly just cut out the vegetables and nuts, controlling my portions with eggs and chicken. If I lose weight at that pace, I may continue the food selection through our departure.

If I don't lose enough, I'll go to one meal a day fasting again. I give myself one week.

Seriously...I'm nearly 40, and I'm easily in the best shape of my life. It's not even close (well, except maybe the year I lived in Rome...but I'm definitely more muscular now than then).

40 Nonsense, the entire intention of rebranded masculinity is to debrand masculinity. The simple fact is that many, many women hate men. Lesbian women especially hate men. In a governmental capacity, men are considered a minority that should be ignored.
I am blown away by any male or married women voting to elect a lesbian woman to govern over them, be concerned about their family, or their practice of religion. They will not. Almost all LGBTQ people do not care about straight people, an ambivalence that borders on hate. I does not please me to write this because many lesbians are beautiful people. But they have been manipulated by Marxists just as much as the Transgenders have been.

======

Obama got elected because his people hid who he was from the world, built up a mask of change around him, and lucked out with the single most unpopular incumbent in modern American history dragging down the entire ticket...with the GOP's tacit and enthusiastic approval.

The idea that Obama was ever good at politics has always been a weird fiction without any basis in fact. He and his team are actually quite bad at politics. If he were good, he wouldn't have lost millions of votes from 2008 to 2012. He wouldn't have seen the largest decimation of his party nationwide in lower government seats in history.

That his team hasn't been relegated to run save Senate election efforts is hilarious.

68 GAINZZZ? It so happens I have been upping my game in my morning workouts. About a month ago I drove on a Sunday morning to a 1/5 mile track near my house and cranked out a mile, running and walking, and surprised myself by doing five laps in 10:45.

Why surprised? A couple of years ago Miss Linda gave me a Fitbit-style watch that -- in "walk" or "run" mode -- is supposed to track your distance. I've been using "walk," because I was walking 2/3 of the way. It took me about 17-18 minutes to do a mile.

On the 1/5 mile track, it was way off. I've been working out harder than I thought! Two weeks ago on the track, using the "run" mode, I came within a hair of doing 1.5 miles in 18:15 . . . and that, friends and neighbors, is the "Excellent" aerobic category for my age range. I'd been thinking my wind was going. Not so much.

Posted by: Oldcat at October 11, 2024 03:42 PM (n7h9X)

71 It's all about de-gendering men.

De-gendering men is just a part of the overall de-gendering movement that started with same-sex "marriage". Where the argument was that two people in a union, no matter the sex, is the same/equal.

That led to two parents, no matter the sex, being the same for a child. A child didn't need a mother and a father, that two mothers or two fathers were just as good. Since there is no difference between men and women.

That led to "transgender" movement where no one could answer "what is a woman?"

And now it's continuing on to de-gender men. Started off with feminizing men by pushing all heterosexual men as bad and all homosexual men as good. Then moved on to say that there was "toxic masculinity" and all men were rapists and sexual predators. And now they're finishing it up with saying *all* masculinity is bad.

Started 22 years ago with the Lawrence v Texas decision and Justice Scalia's dissent warning all this would happen. Now here we are.

77 Obama got elected because his people hid who he was from the world, built up a mask of change around him, and lucked out with the single most unpopular incumbent in modern American history dragging down the entire ticket...with the GOP's tacit and enthusiastic approval.

I don't. I think it's all a power play to shut up the normals and pressure them to suck the ladydick. If anything, it's normal straight people who are "being forced to live an identity which feels ill-fitting, alien, and wrong."

It probably was once true that homosexuals felt mental pain because they weren't attracted to who society said they should be attracted to. But today? Come on now.

The closest thing to a hero that exists in the media world today is a dude who openly brags about liking dicks in his ass. Straight girls are even inventing bogus new sexualities that sound a bit lezzy to try to improve their social standing.

He was emotional at times. He was the one to deliver these remarks. Cried all the way through it.

Why does he never challenge Trump on the economy? Trump steals credit for Obama’s economic recovery. It would be exceedingly helpful if Obama would make fun of Trump for being just another guy taking credit for a black man’s work or creation.

When he was giving his speech, there was total silence. Especially, when he taught men what real strength is. Food for thought for them.

248 Cooking ground beef: I've been buying the grass-fed 1 lb. specials at Aldi. Instead of just dumping it into the pan, I cut it in slabs first, about finger-sized or a little thicker, and grill them in olive oil on each side while seasoning them with chili powder and paprika. They begin to get nicely browned pretty quickly. At a certain point I'll cut the slabs in the middle, and grill and season the two new faces of each. When I pop them onto a tortilla or into a taco shell, they are firmer, like small bits of steak, well-browned, but still pink inside -- not well done or burned.

Well, *I* like it.

Carburetors worked tolerably in the 60's, when the fuel you could buy was formulated for carbureted engines. Now that everything made for the last 30-odd years is fuel injected, with a closed, pressurized fuel system, they can sell lower-quality gasoline, laden with light ends, and still have it work. Carburetors really don't deal with that shit well, at all. Nor do mechanical fuel pumps.

I have a cross-type tire wrench in the trunk, and Iknow one of the sockets fits my car's lug nuts. The trouble is, if I have a flat -- and I had three this year, all within a month! -- I'm usually wearing good clothes and don't want to get them filthy. But there will always be some level of conflict in that you and she will view things differently. I have one to pump the baby tire up if necessary, and to air up the regular ones when the temps drop. Remember the days when you could get free air at the gas station? That went out with a lower price for using the company's credit card, ca. 1995. The pay-for-air pumps always cut off when you have done three of your tires. Having your own is the only way.

I've heard the same. I carried a can of it in my cars for years -- the same can. One day I looked at the expiration date, which was far enough back that the can could have been in junior high, and threw it away.

I did the same with a bottle of Simply Orange hand cleaner. After fifteen years the orange gritty gel had turned into orange *juice*. The new product, same brand, had slightly different ingredients.

450 Oh, I have the compressor. But the three flats this spring all were caused by the sidewall being sliced open -- a nasty sharp-edged pothole did for two tires, and a sharp metal curb edge that should not protrude the way it does got the other one.

I'll look into getting a plug kit, though.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 11, 2024 04:29 PM (J2vNu)

You can plug sidewalls, even patch a slash with multiple plugs. It should last you long enough to get to a tire shop and buy a new tire. Not recommended as "safe", but hanging around in a sketchy neighborhood waiting on the AAA truck might not be safe, either.

Regarding the spray can fix-a-flat? It make a mess inside the tire, but you can wash it out, once the tire is dismounted. Worth carrying a can. It's like insurance.

My husband never had a problem braiding our daughters hair. I showed him how and he took it from there. My SIL loved braiding my grandmother daughters hair. That's what men do.

504 I had to go check, my car has a full size spare under the back of the car. I hope the lug wrench is with the tire.

I have 4 daughters, and was never, EVER, asked to braid their hair. However, had I been asked, I would have done it. Probably not well, but I'd have done it.

508 The only consolation in the inevitable Islamic conquest of the Western world will be the Left's complete and final destruction, and the destruction of all their horseshit.

All those anti-male freaks are just going to *love* the unreconstructed, balls-out, 7th-century masculinity that is life and - more likely - death, under Shariah law.

bc that's what it's called, despite the liberal ponces at ESPN declaring 20 years ago that was "too violent" a name for a football rivalry weekend

510 I see a swelling number of men (and women) who have just about had it with toxic masculinity and the beauty of a feminine run world. Women of course always ran the world - from their bedroom pillows. And very effectively. But they did that through the construct of masculine men.

All the women first types should realize, much like the country has had it with the feds - they also have just about had it with women preaching to them about bad guys are. As all the legal machinations which have given women a leg up in multiple ways are starting fall away (affirmative action is on its deathbed) I hope the stronk womyn understand their moment in the sun is about to be over. Feelings are about to go back to the cupboard - where they should have always stayed.

I did not have a daughter, but I guaran-damn-tee I would have learned to braid hair. A wonderful bonding moment.

Also, I would have taught her how to shoot and change a tire.

512 CaliGirl, the jack and the lug wrench should be together. Look in the owner's manual.

513 Am I the only one who thinks the spotter in the video above is doing it wrong by gripping the bar underhand instead of overhand? He's counting on his biceps to take the weight if the guy on the bench fails entirely.

If he grip the bar overhand, he could easily lift it up even in that dire case.
Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at October 11, 2024 04:55 PM (YqDXo)

The Fail was the guy lifting totally giving up and falling to the floor. Spotter is there to HELP get the bar up, not do it themselves.

And me? I can always bench way more than I can curl, either underhand or overhand grip... so unless the spotter can lift with his legs and back? He should have made sure the guy was safely out of the way, then dropped the bar onto the bench.

Neat thing about the truck spare is it is under the frame and has a lift/lower crank . Bad thing is those tires weigh a ton.

Posted by: Ben Had at October 11, 2024 04:52 PM

When it was time for my eighty pound daughter to drive I made her change a flat on my S-10. Crank the spare down, move it into position, basically stand on the cross type jack, loosen the nuts, pull the tire, etc.

She passed with flying colors. Tough little girl.

Wifey looked adoringly at me while I was changing the tire. I had to yell, "time me!"

I haven't actually made the ice cream in a while so I'd have to look up the recommended sweetener. I think it's eryrthitol and some other sweetener, maybe sucrolose.
